Contractions at 30 +4

So it started when I realized I hadn't felt the baby move all day, not a wiggle or kick, absolutely nothing. So, me being a nervous FTM to-be called the after hours line. I followedher iinstructions and then went to the hospital. Doctors hooked me up to all kinds of machines and said baby looked totally fine. They then asked if I felt contractions. I said no, and they told me I was having steady contractions 2-3 minutes apart for about an hour. Which completely shocked me as I hadn't felt anything at all. They ended up giving me a shot to stop them, and they released me. My concern/question is this: are my odds higher of preterm labor, knowing I was having steady, what I assume were real, contractions? Any words of advice or similar experiences?

  • I don't have similar experience but I would suggest increasing your water intake. I am 30 weeks too and had Braxton hicks for like an hour but I was dehydrated. They didn't even hurt. Just felt crampy.

I agree, drink more water. With my first pregnancy I was plagued with steady contractions early on that would sometimes last for several hours, get more intense over time, and would actually cause some dilation. I know I displayed because I ran up to the hospital a couple times and got checked. I'm not a doctor, so I don't know what to tell you about your preterm labor concern, but I DO remember thinking "this has to be it!" So many times in those last ten weeks.

We were supposed to go to my in laws for Christmas dinner 2014, and we ended up at the hospital instead because I really thought my water broke.....it hadn't, I had just peed my pants a little because the baby kicked so hard. My labor with her when the time came was almost 24 hours long, and this time there will be no mistake when it's go time.

    Best wishes!
  • Lots of water and lots of rest. Put your feet up when possible.
  • I had this same situation two weeks ago. The L&D OB told me to make an appt immediately to see my OB. I did that two days later (of course this only happens on weekends). She checked my cervix and I was dilated (they had found that at L&D too). She also checked a protein level in my cervix; I was positive and that indicates preterm labor. I also lost my mucus plug that same day. She put me on immediate bed rest and weekly check ups.

I drank lots of water, laid down as much as possible, on my left side, til I could get in to see my OB.
  • This happened to a friend of mine at 30 weeks as well. They told her to make sure she was getting enough water and resting and taking it easy. She ended up having her baby two days before her due date. So it's definitely not a guaranteed pre term labor. Good luck!

  • Thank you for all the responses. I forgot to mention that before they gaveme the shot the nurse had me drink a liter of water to see if it helped. II've been trying to drink more water, and hopefully it will help. I had to find anew OB because we moved jjust before Xmas, so hopefully she will be able to give me some more advice.
  • I was in and out of the hospital a couple times with my first for steady and intense contractions.   They all eventually died down after a while and IVs.  I know it wasn't my imagination because they showed up right away on the monitors.  That baby eventually came right at the end of 37 weeks.    I'm having them again now (at 32 weeks), but this time I'm just going to sit tight at home.  I'm also getting cramping and vaginal pain so it's a bit concerning but I'll just keep an eye on it.  I think some people just have much more intense and frequent Braxton hicks.
