BG 3.0 Users- What an I doing wrong?

I recently started using BG diapers on DS. He weighs about 13 lbs and I have the diapers on the smallest size and sometimes they leak!! I feel like I have them on tight enough... What am I doing wrong? Should I move to the middle size?

  • They might not work well for him. Some people have different problems with different diapers. Possibly try a different diaper.

  • He could still be a little small for them.?

    11 months
  • Theres actually a chance that they are still a bit big.  As I recall, they didn't start working on DS until around 3 1/2 - 4 months, at least 12-13 lbs, so maybe your LO just needs a bit more time to grow into them.  That would be my first guess.

  • We had constant leaks to and then finally we hit a point with no more leaks.  I think your baby could still be a bit small for them.  Also, be sure that when you tighten them around the waist, that you can't see any of the "extra" material hanging out around him.  I hope that makes sense-- it took me a while to figure that out.  let me know if you need a better explanation.
  • How often are you changing?  We started using BG 3.0s on the medium setting when DS was 15 pounds, so maybe you can try it and see if it helps.  Is the insert wet when they leak?

Make sure the insert is really flat, and try tightening them more. ?

Yes- the insert is wet...in fact, everything is wet! I change them often...almost every time he eats (every 1 1/2 to 3 hours) or I check them when he gets upset and cries...

  • If everything is soaking, it may be that you just have a heavy wetter and have to change him more often.  We have had times where we had to change the BGs every hour because there's a lot moving through the system ...
  • Are you using the regular insert or just the newborn insert?  If so, you need to use the regular insert snapped all the way down.  He could just be a heavy wetter.

  • My DD had leak issues, but it was due to lack of absorbency!  We needed to increase the inserts and just didn't figure it out quickly, DUH.  The adult holding her was basically getting peed on right out the leg, but the small insert was saturated...

If you add the larger insert it can also help take up some of the slack and improve the fit.
