Hi All -- Happy New Year! Hoping that 2016 will be the year of the baby for all of us!

I am a newbie to posting on these boards, although I have been lurking for a long time...

I have unexplained infertility and had 5 rounds of IUI. The 5th one finally took, but very sadly I miscarried at 7 weeks right before the holidays... I am devastated and it's really hard for me to believe that it's back to the fertility clinic for me in January... But trying to stay optimistic as we are heading into IVF and I know this is an entirely different ballgame!

Because of my unexplained infertility and miscarriage, my RE is recommending that I do IVF with PGD (Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis). I am planning on starting this process as soon as I get my next period. (And I know it will be a looooong process with the birth control pill, egg freezing, genetic testing, etc...)

I've felt very lonely during my entire fertility journey and especially after my loss. (My friends and family have been wonderful, but it's so hard when no one I know is going through the same thing as I am right now...) I'd love to find a community of women here who are at the same stage of their journey as I am and want to connect along the way... Through the good and the bad!

Hoping to find some buddies who are going through this now and would also love to hear from anyone who is going through/has gone through IVF w/ PGD about what your experience was like.

Can't wait to "meet" you all! xo

  • Hello and welcome! I'm so sorry about what you have been through. It's really lonely when you don't know anyone going through something similar. I think that's why we all lean on each other here! I'm personally not at the same stage as you (we have only had 1 -unsuccessful- IUI so far) but you will find other ladies who are in the IVF threads! There are always threads for those in similar cycles, such as the January/February IVF thread, and also the TWW threads once you've had your transfer and are waiting for your beta. Again welcome and GL with your upcoming IVF!

  • @Jewels292 welcome. I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine- glad you joined the community. I'm starting IVF this month but I'm doing a no pills start (I tried BC last cycle and it didn't suppress my cycle properly) I'm doing a fresh transfer. I would love to do genetic testing but I couldn't afford it. I have done IUI many times (1 1/2 years) with no luck. This is my first IVF. I have undiagnosed infertility but most likely its endometriosis. I went to two classes on IVF but I'm still very uneasy. I'll keep you posted as I know more. :)

    @Jewels292
Welcome! It sounds like you and I are in similar shoes! I go in next week to start the IVF process. I haven't been placed on BCP yet, so I'm guessing stims and egg retrieval will be closer to February. There is a thread for February/March IVF buddies, if you'd like to join it! There are a few ladies in there now. :)

DH and I are also considering pre-implantation genetic testing. It is $5K out of pocket, and I'm not sure we'll be able to afford it. I have a history of recurrent miscarriage - 2 pregnancies (1 singleton and 1 set of twins). Both fairly early losses, which lends to chromosomal abnormalities. So, we hope to go with PGD testing before transfer. I've "heard" that success rates may be as high as 60% after PGD testing.

Good luck to you! When do you go in for your first visit? I go in on Jan 11th.

  • hi @Jewels292 - I'm so sorry to hear about your MC, and struggles. Welcome to the forum and our network of support. I hope you find what you need from this amazing group of ladies!
I am starting this month working towards our next cycle. I've previously done 2 rounds of IVF (1 fresh, 1 frozen) and am considering PGS/PGD due to recurrent IVF failure. Feel free to private message me with any questions you want a quick answer to (I'm on a lot).
My concern with PGS is the cost associated out of pocket, so am getting some immune testing first and considering intralipids if it shows that immune issues are a factor. If not, PGS is definitely on our radar. We'll likely be stimming in Feb, and retrieval/transfer maybe early march? Not sure on dates yet as need to get all the tests done.
Like @_Amanda_  said, we're over in Feb/Mar and you're welcome to join. Jan/Feb might be more on your timeline though, not sure... worth joining both perhaps ;)

  • Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! It is so amazing to already feel like I have a community on here... And thank you all so much for your kind words and support!

@wifeinraleigh28 Thank you for your note, the info, and wonderful support! Seems like there is a nice big community to join there. Good luck on your fertility adventure and hopefully we will both have some good news soon!

@Selena2016 Good luck with your IVF cycle! I would love to keep in touch along the way and hear how it's going and how you are feeling... I know... The genetic testing is so expensive and I have heard all kinds of mixed things about it. I feel the same way as you do -- nervous! Do you feel exhausted from all the IUIs or do you feel like IVF is an entirely different adventure? (I am trying to feel like the latter, but it's so hard after everything we've all been through!)

@_Amanda_ Thank you so much for letting me know about the February/March IVF boards. I will be joining right away! We do seem like we're on the exact same schedule and I would love to keep in touch throughout this journey... I go in tomorrow for my first check up after my D&C. Really hoping everything looks OK! Will learn more about what cause my miscarriage (I hope!) and find out more about my next steps. Will let you all know if I find out anything interesting! Good luck next week -- please keep me updated on what happens next for you!

@oxinfree And sounds like we're in the same boat as well! I am sure I will have a ton of questions... The cost of PGD is daunting (My RE says it is as much as renting a nice apartment for a month in NYC! Ha!), so I am trying to get as much information as possible as we move forward. I'd love to keep in touch along your journey and hear what your test results show, etc. I am definitely going to be joining you and @_Amanda_ in the Feb/Mar thread and will keep you updated. (Yeah, I have no idea what my schedule is, but February at the earliest seems realistic!) Looking forward to keeping in touch!
