and the sicknesses continue

I need to vent. My five year has been sick every other week for the past 3 months. Whooping cough, strep twice, pneumonia, 2 viral illnesses, 1 cold. She literally just ended 10 days worth of amoxicillin for strep. Now I'm pretty sure she has chicken pox. She has her vaccinations and has been on winter break for almost two weeks. I keep the house has clean as I can and give her a bath every other day! Now she has pimple like itchy spots everywhere! Nothing new has been introduced either. Like seriously I'm so sick of her getting sick. I know she is a kid and therefore will get everything but back to back like this is way to stressful! I feel like I'm losing my mind!

Re: and the sicknesses continue

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your little. :( I feel like every one of my friends with children has seen a million illnesses go through their homes these past few weeks, many of them requiring hospitalizations. We've been so lucky that DD hasn't gotten sick yet (knock on wood!) but I think it's just that season, unfortunately. :( Thanks for posting, though; you reminded me that we need to get DH his TDaP before LO makes his/her appearance!

  • Oh my!! I'm so sorry Mama! I have no advice. I hope it's not chicken pox and she doesn't get sick again this season!
  • My niece used to get sick all of the time when she was little (because she was in daycare); but I think because she got everything when she was little she developed this strong immunity and she is never sick anymore.  So maybe that is the bright light at the end of the tunnel for you....

Sorry your LO has been so sick! Maybe the spots are a reaction to amoxicillin. My son took amoxicillin last year and after 7 days on it developed a raised rash all over his body, I Googled and apparently a rash is fairly common after several days on amoxicillin. Our Dr said his was an allergic rash, so no more amoxicillin for him!

I hope she feels better soon!
  • Ugh it's the worst! My son has been sick since thanksgiving, virus after virus so we can't even do anything for him. I just hope he gets a little healthier before baby makes her appearance.
  • That rash does sound like how I reacted to Amoxicillin as a child, but it might still be worth checking with a doc just to be sure. Definitely a pain in the butt though to be sick so often, hope your little one starts feeling better.

  • I definitely plan on asking the Dr on Monday. i didn't even think you could get a rash from amoxicillin. She's been on it so much the past couple of months. Because she is acting normal otherwise, doesn't have a fever and is extremely hyper.

It sounds like it could be a reaction to the antibiotics. I broke out in a rash all over my stomach once from a round of antibiotics. Hope things get better asap!!
