I don't know how you ladies do it. You're all like super moms to me AND you have time to post on here! I read a lot, but I feel too busy to fully keep up and it makes me sad.
Anyway, on a somewhat related note, I feel like I am just winging it on all sorts of things - especially food. We're doing purees, because that's easier with daycare, but I also give her stuff to chew on every once in a while like the teething biscuits and some fruits/veggies in the mesh teether things. Is it bad to do both? I realize these things are by no means true BLW, but she has to learn to chew sometime, right? Does anyone else ever have moments where they're dumbfounded that they don't know how to feed their own child? Ha!

Lawd, all I'm doing is winging it. Try one thing, if it doesn't work, try something else.
So the guidelines say to replace bottle nipples regularly. Does anyone actually do this, and if so, how often?
Oh boy I still use some bottles from DS... They are sterilized but I didn't get rid of them... That would be so wasteful!
I bought new bottles for her because she used to only drink from the tommy tippee but now she will drink from any of them.
Yeah I think it's just the nipples, not the bottles luckily! It kinda makes sense that eventually the plastic isn't as strong... Particularly when LO chews on them... But I'm kinda assuming she will grow out of each stage nipple before I need to toss anything. We've been on the 3 month nipple size though for a long time though, just wasn't sure how much longer it was cool to continue!

I haven't. Tho I did buy some extra bottles a month or two ago, which of course came with new nipples, so I kind of have new nipples in rotation with my old ones. Actually, the other day I realized that I still haven't gone up to the size two nipples. I really should go ahead and sterilize them and try them.
Anyone have experience with refusing bottles due to teething? She's her normal self (normal cranky teething self) but has only taken 5oz today and even that was a fight. About half her normal. And less wet diapers. Hoping this passes?

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@dancegurl1118 he's still eating, but it takes longer because he wants to chew on the nipple in between sips. He's been wanting to eat more some nights and I think it's because he is hurting and wants to chew on something. I know we're not supposed to put anything in the crib with them, but I'm really considering putting a teether in with him. Is it really that different from a pacifier?
@KarasTwin she pushes the bottle away. It's horrible. And I tried to give her Tylenol for the pain and she projectile vomitted the small bit she had eaten all day. Ugh. Called the doctor because her breath smells like acetone again and with everything going on I'm nervous. She's only had 2 pee diapers today and that's counting her giant one from overnight. So really just one.

@dancegurl1118 oh no. Poor girl and poor you. I don't like giving tylenol because it constipates him, but I've been giving him ibuprofen at night which seems to help a little. Have you heard back from the doctor?
@KarasTwin my pedi practice is very old school which I guess is good since I'm crazed about something being wrong. He wasn't worried and said give her some Tylenol and let it ride, if she's still the same bring her in tomorrow. He said breastmilk is the best thing for threatened dehydration because it metabolizes quickly so even if she's having a little it's ok. We shall see.

Yikes @dancegurl1118 . I hope LO has improved a bit since you've posted! Hopefully the both of you get a good night's rest and she us feeling better tomorrow
@swaugh14 I was feeling SUPER overwhelmed by food for baby. I decided to stop thinking about it and just do what I have time for - sometimes that's eating real things, sometimes it's cream of wheat and puréed foods, sometimes it's only a teething biscuit.
By just letting go, I actually was able to start feeding more foods more often, because it was no longer such a big ordeal in my mind, if that makes sense.
I haven't read about BLW. And I didn't have any intuition when I started. But now I do, and it's going ok. We even tried a little meat and cheese yesterday.
@dancegurl1118 hope your little girl is doing better. We are EBF but sometimes when he's teething he will barely nurse due to the pain. Poor babies. Have a glass of wine for me tonight!
I worked up the courage to try teething biscuits today! Tried the mum mums, I think someone on here recommended. She loved them, but she's so lazy she just opened her mouth expected me to feed her. Like, I'd be mad if it weren't funny exactly how lazy she is. She finally took one and went to town. The only prob is that she has razor teeth and kept taking off big chunks so I kept taking it away to let her "chew" and swallow. A few gags, which I'm glad you ladies prepared me for not to panic. But it all turned out well! We are still on purées but I'm feeling more confident to try "real" softer foods soon!
We tried very small pieces of mandarin orange this morning..... He loved it until he gagged a bit then he shut down completely and refused anything more..... I don't know why I'm surprised...... Pretty sure he's ruined for life due to mil She gave him French toast/syrup pieces yesterday and then peaches at lunch. Dh fed him that whipped cream dessert at Christmas I'm losing on all fronts......... Sleep and food.
I tried apple yesterday with my LO for the first time. A couple hours later I noticed a rash on his trunk and back but not hives. It could have been a heat rash but I'm going to wait a couple days on apples again. Then at dinner I let him suck on a Rosemary sourdough roll. At 12:30 when he woke up to ear he projectile vomited all over me, him, the chair while I was nursing him. I cleaned him up, bathed him and then he vomited all over again. So I don't know if it was the roll, Apple (who's allergic to baked apple?) or a GI bug. He's been fine since then.
Also...glad I'm not the only one so overwhelmed with feeding a baby. I'm doing more of a BLW approach. More soft/mashed up foods and it's giving me a lot of anxiety. I need to just go with it. My husband even asked if we had to feed him everyday lol. I was like yes we do!
Feeding gives me anxiety as well, especially now that she hasn't gained any weight since 4 mo check up. We started supplement first time yesterday, she's been spitting up a lot now.
@jessieR358 If your LO isn't feeling great, has a weird response to a food, or if you've had enough stress from the process, you CAN actually take a day off. You really don't need to feed them everyday right now. They get what they need from formula or breast milk. Unless they are really into the solid meals.
We did BLW with DS1 and skipped days here and there until about 8 months. And still had light days after that. He was a great eater, still is. I think dropping the stressful or sick days helped more than it hurt the process. For all of us.
She's still not eating well. She took 15 oz total today. Ugh. We tried Tylenol, teething gel, and she just refuses to eat. It seems like sucking hurts.

@henrytviii yeah I only did breast milk yesterday to let his tummy recover. I more just thought my husbands comment was funny. He doesn't like to feed him bc it's so messy but it doesn't really bother bother me. LO is learning and having a great time feeding himself.
My LO is also nursing a lot less. She has been for the last few days. In fact, I'm now randomly letting down in public again which is super embarrassing and hasn't happened in months. I don't think she's teething. Not sure what's up with her. We also took a break from solids last week while she was sick. She refused them, so I figured I'd wait until she felt better and could breathe through her nose again. We're working our way back into them now.
We've went from nursing for about 20 minutes at a time until about 4 months old to 10 minutes and now the last week or so she's been nursing for about 7 minutes. She eats about every 3 hours still so I guess she's faster at getting what she needs
Has anyone given their lo yogurt yet?? We had a bad reaction when lo had a cheese stick in her mouth (didn't even eat any of it) and our pedi suggested to give her a bite of yogurt and see how she is, wait 6 hours then give her more than previously and see how she is. I bought yogurt last week at the store but still nervous to try
My ped said to wait until 8 months for yogurt. However, I did give her some of those puffs. The little O cereals. She pincer grasped one, put it in her mouth, chewed, and swallowed. Woohoo! This was after pushing them around on her tray for a few minutes.
Would lecithin help with letdown? Does thinning the breastmilk help get it out of the ducts quicker? My letdown takes so long now I feel like it's going to be the end of BFing, LO sucks and starts screaming at the breast cause nothing's coming out, then I'm tensing up trying to re-latch him while he's arching his back and thrashing around. I think he's used to instant gratification from bottles while I'm at work. I used to have a super fast letdown but no longer.

I have the same problem. I think part is that she usually gets bottles so nursing is too slow.
@hoodoll82 What formula do you use? I'm going to start supplementing with LO and I wanted to compare what you use to Nutramigen (sp). I'm hesitant to try a dairy based formula.
^^ @sammy K we just made this switch too. She didn't love formula at first (also used a 95% reduced lactose formula which the ped admitted didn't taste great). One thing that helped us was making the formula bottles really warm. We actually went out a got a bottle warmer to help, and now she takes the formula bottles like a champ.

Also, I bump while I pump. And I pump A LOT!

Maybe I was projecting the "don't switch to cows milk until 1 to all dairy"
