I am looking forward to my next appt at almost 11 weeks. I'm just curious if my doctor will be able to hear the heartbeat with the dippers due to my extra padding in my belly. I am about 183 right now. When were you able to hear your little one
Not sure how relevant your situation will be to mine since I carry more of my weight in my hips than my stomach, but they were able to find the heart beat with a Doppler at 10+4 for me (5'6", around 170). Before hand, the doctor gave me a 25% chance of not being able to find it due to how small the baby was and the space to cover to find the heart beat.
Well, I went into my first appointment/ultrasound thinking I was 7 or 8 weeks pregnant, only to find out I was actually 12 weeks. We heard the heartbeat at that time. I'm probably not a good example to follow, as I was about 4 weeks ahead of what I thought I was.
I'm super curious about this as well...I carry the vast majority of my weight on my tummy so I'm not sure how ultrasounds are going to go once they stop doing transvaginal. I'm for sure a little worried about it! Hopefully it won't be too difficult, but I don't think it's gonna be easy, either.
I heard the heartbeat transvaginally at 7 weeks. They tried a Doppler at 11 weeks with no luck, so I got an extra ultra sound. My next appointment is next Friday at 15 weeks, so we will see if it will work this time.
I carry my weight in my belly and heard heart beat at 6 weeks via transvaginal us, and just got it again at 10 weeks via abdominal. I was worried they wouldn't be able to get through all my fat but she placed the . . .wand sensor thingy . . just above my pubic bone where I naturally have little fat (I refer to this area as the drop off point, lol.)
Thanks for all your responses. I ended up touring a birthing center today and the modeive spent like 5 minutes until she was able to pick it up. He was hiding behind my placenta and we kept hearing the woosh of his movements. I was about 11 weeks and 3 days. Youre right the go right where you have very little fat.
I have my first appointment on August 3rd when I will be 8+4. I'm 5ft 6 and weigh around 180lbs so concerned i wont be able to hear baby's heartbeat. Fingers crossed.
@SLFarrell89 You'll be fine. My doctor just did an ultrasound whenever she couldn't find it right away. It took until like week 20 before it was consistently easy to find.
@babycakesday thanks Hoping it will be straightforward as we don't get to have an ultrasound over here until 12weeks. Feels like forever waiting for it to come around.
Re: Plus size mamas - when we're you able to hear the heartbeat?
I'm probably not a good example to follow, as I was about 4 weeks ahead of what I thought I was.
