So girls, be honest with me. Is Amadeus (pronounced Ahm-eh-deh-us) too pretentious a name?
DH and I like it, but we both realize it's quite special. We are both really into classical music and got the idea for the name while listening to Mozart. His initials would be AAK and his last name will end with -airat
It sounds nice in all the languages we speak, it has a meaning to us and we find it beautiful. Will people side eye the name as too pretentious or trying too hard?
We also considered Johann after the composers Johann Strauss and Bach. That one is way more common in Scandinavia.

No, we are white so I don't know if that is another aspect that could make it seem too weird. It is actually a Greek name but very popular in hispanic culture (but usually with an accent mark on the E).
I'm most familiar with it as a Hispanic name, did not know it was actually Greek. If I were you, I would stick to my guns knowing that 1. It's a REAL name, 2. You and SO agree on it, and 3. It's your child and nobody else's. It's not something he'll be made fun of for or that I'd side-eye, it's just not something I'd personally choose which is why I said nay.

Actually, disagree. Gabrielle is a perfectly fine name, but Gabriel is a completely different name, and it's a boys' name. Like the long version of "Gabe".

Even though I liked the name I didn't want our kid to be the odd one in class, and now I don't have to worry about people butchering his name while pronouncing it Bigger plus, it works with the mn much better. Such a huge relief, and now I can finally order the Lost My Name book
