Painting

Didn't have much luck on here with searching for this topic and Google isn't making me feel any better. We just painted our laundry room tonight.. Still more to go tomorrow. Is this safe? We had the door open with a fan and I wore a N95 mask but now I'm wondering if I made a mistake? I'm almost 20 weeks pregnant. Has anyone else been painting or painted before while pregnant?

Re: Painting

  • I painted my DD's room while pg with her and am currently painting much of the house. I'm just careful to open the windows. I've never used a mask. Most the paint I've used is low VOC.

  • My doctor recommended open windows, lots of ventilation and a mask. And to take frequent breaks to get fresh air. Otherwise she said it's not so much of an issue anymore because most paints now have low VOCs
  • As PP have said, since it was well ventilated, you should be just fine. When I painted while pregnant with DS, my OB also recommended wearing gloves to minimize formeldehyde exposure (though not all paints contain it).

Will it say low VOC on the can somewhere? I haven't checked the can out yet and we are finished for today but I was wondering if I'll be able to tell from reading the label @countrygrl5533
  • Yep, just have plenty of ventilation and take breaks far away from the paint. We need to paint our bedroom. I think I'll sleep elsewhere for a night or two after painting.

Most all paints are now low VOC. Check the website for the brand if you can't get the info from the can.
