Annoyed with today's appt

I had my 36 week appt today and took a giant list of questions to ask. I was told that if my baby is not born by his due date they will plan an induction within the week after. When I asked what induction methods are used, I was told they like to use Cytotec. Um. No. Seriously, this is one of my major fears about induction. Now I'm stressing. I am going to hope that my body goes into labor on its own, but I'm also going to be looking into natural induction methods. I'm also planning to print off my research on Cytotec and take it to my appt next week so that I have it to back me up when I tell them I absolutely will not accept a Cytotec induction.

I guess this is just a vent...thanks for listening ladies. If you have any other info on Cytotec or natural methods feel free to send it my way!!

Re: Annoyed with today's appt

  • Hitting your due date is no reason to induce... is there more?

...and Cytotec is diffidently unsafe for induction - read the insert: https://www.pfizer.com/files/products/uspi_cytotec.pdf, even pit says it can be deadly to the baby: https://bedheadbirth.com/wordpress/2011/01/pitocin-what-they-never-tell-you/

I would be pissed. It is your birth, why are THEY planning anything?

They want to induce sometime between week 40 and 41. "Just in case." I have done the research on Cytotec, and I am very very uncomfortable with it...it's the only thing that I will 100% refuse. I asked if they would use Cervadil if they needed to soften the cervix and she said, "Not really, we prefer Cytotec because it's a much gentler method." I think that my jaw dropped to the floor, but she didn't seem to notice. I was in shock when the doctor told me all of this today, so I'll be more prepared next week so that I can discuss it in more detail.

  • Yikes! I hope that they listen to your concerns and do not plan to do the Cytotec. I would be so upset if I were you.

It's on my birth plan, too. I didn't take the birth plan with me today, though. I was completely unprepared for her to say that that was what they normally use. I'm already preparing to discuss this more next week. I was so upset that I was afraid I would cry if I tried to talk about it today. My DH will be there next week, too, so he's more than prepared to back me up.
