When will I have time???

I've been seeing a lot of blogs and things lately about these moms that had babies and then really got serious about exercise and getting their bodies back. I'm so jealous and want to do the same thing with exercise and fitness. However, honestly, when will there be time?!?! I work full time on top of having my 3 month old. I give a true effort to work out at least every other day but often get interrupted and am unable to finish because LO still needs that constant care. I end up feeling so lazy and upset when I see those blogs then. I mean, do these women also work? How do they manage it?!? Help! Any advice or input?!

  • I feel you. I'm working full time and just got a promotion so my workload is crazy right now. LO thinks her bedtime is 10:30 despite our attempts to bump it up and she still wakes up for a middle of the night feeding on occasion and I'm BF so hubs can't help out with that. When I'm at home I'm slammed with caring for her and tackling chores. We are also in the process of building a home which is very time consuming. Even hubs told me the other day he doesn't know where I would find time to throw in a 30 min workout. I've considered dedicating my lunch break to a noon yoga class nearby, but that's really my only free time to run errands. I think I will start off trying to make it 2 days a week and go from there. Baby steps.

I'm a SAHM with a home gym....and still can't find 30 minutes of spare time to get my butt in there. I also like to work out for a few hours at a time when I do. I just don't have that kind of time. I just try to walk a lot around the house. Keep moving. Jumping jacks when I can. Body Squats when I have 30 seconds to a few minutes of time. Nothing like I use to but with my DH crazy work schedule and me with no help...working out just had to give right now. Today alone I have had one cup of coffee and its 4:15PM?!?!?! I haven't had time to eat yet today. My basic needs seem to constantly come last. I knew it would happen but had zero idea of how bad it would really be. I might be one and done. Lol.

ETA: I can tell I haven't worked out in months because I am a very anxious person without it. I get the most out of workout out mentally. I also have had a hard time sleeping. I'm hoping to get a 'balance' some how. Just right now I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. Sucks!
  • I'm home full time and still don't understand it. When I have free time I'm busy cleaning, doing laundry, or you know.. showering. Lol

  • 30 day shred is only 30 minutes. I have my hubby be in charge for a bit a few nights a week so I can fit that in. When the weather's nice, I try to take them out in the stroller for a quick walk after work.

Ditto, plus a 3 year old. And like @LoveLee85 sometimes I don't even have time to eat.I'm hoping in the new year we will all have more of a routine and I can start 30 mins workouts.
  • I was just talking to DH about this. I already get up at 445 to feed LO, pump, make breakfast, get ready and get to work by 720. So before work isn't going to happen. And when I get home at 4 I want to spend time with LO before she's down at 730-8. I have to do a video or something a couple evenings. Saturday's are going to be a spin class. I'm thinking about running bc I can knock out some cardio in like 15 mins. It's just so hard.

Yes! It's so tough to find time. I got a Fitbit recently and that has been a huge motivator! I have a couple friends that I do challenges with. And sometimes that pushes me to get outside with LO to walk or go for a run when DH is home.

Also just seeing how much I walk caring for little one makes me feel good. I know I'm not burning fat necessarily but it still counts for something!

The other night I was walking/swaying LO at midnight and she was screaming/crying so I was going pretty quick and working up a sweat! Come to check my Fitbit the next day and it categorized that 25 minutes as an elliptical workout :D
  • Full- time grad school, here, and breastfeeding. Dedicated working out is pretty far down the list, just have to incorporate more activity embedded into daily routines.
  • Full time stay at home mom and I have no idea how people work out. Forget who has the time..who has the energy to do it?? I keep gaining and I'm not happy about it and I would like to work out but I am definelty not there yet. My LO just started sleeping through the night and he's just now establishing a daily routine so maybe things will get a little easier but if he's sleeping and I'm tired, the last thing I'm going to think to do is go make myself more tired by working out and then have him wake up while I'm ready to nap
  • Thanks for starting this thread. I have a home gym and have been trying to exercise for at least 30 minutes. I would like daily but it's more like 3-4 days a week and it's either in am or pm while LO sleeps. However I will be going back to work in a few weeks and there will be no way I can do that before work since I will get up at 5 am and I feel like I'll be exhausted come after LO is asleep. So I'm stressing a bit over this because I need to get back into my routine prepregnancy and I know I will feel better and then in turn eat better and lose weight. It's the getting there part that's the struggle. Good to know I'm not alone on this!
  • I just exercise with the baby. We go on long walks with the dog every few days. I try to dance with him at least every other day. I put some upbeat music on and hold him while I sing to him. He loves twirling around the living room and I work up a sweat pretty quickly. Then sometimes I'll lay him on the yoga mat while I do a quick routine on YouTube and just work around him, kiss his little face when the positioning lines up, tickle his belly, talk to him about what I'm doing, etc. it's not as relaxing as yoga would be in a studio but my back has started feeling better and Jackson doesn't seem to mind moms attention being divided.

Exactly this!! I haven't even gone back to work yet and I have no free time. She is a terrible napper so when DH gets home I shower and eat! That's priority in my book. So is sleep, so I'm not willing to stay up later or wake up earlier right now. My exercise is taking the poor neglected dog for a walk!
  • I got married last year and splurged on a personal trainer to get my butt in shape before the big day!
He continiously stressed to me that diet was 80% of weight loss and working out was 20%.
So I try to keep that in mind b/c I have not yet found the time to work out. My LO is not on any type of schedule yet so for now I'm just going with the flow, eating the best I can.
On the weekends I will make a big fruit salad, a tray of green salad and some grilled chicken. I also stack up on yogurt, kind bars and cheese sticks so I can grab and go during the week.
  • @callistosmile I do this too! On the weekends I do my videos while he naps on the floor near me. If/when he wakes I just talk to him and tell him what I am doing and why, and what muscles it is working and he just smiles and kicks. As long as he can see me he's happy.
  • @Mom2b100915 this is what I have to keep reminding myself. I'm not exercising so I let myself eat whatever-which is so STUPID. I need to clean up my food and fit in exercise as I can.
  • I hate exercising but I'm going to have to soon! I head back to work Jan 5 and we have a nice gym so I may go at lunch time. Also, getting a Fitbit at Christmas

I feel like I'm more active now than I was before pregnancy/baby ... the only time I'm sitting down when we're home is when I'm nursing him! Otherwise I'm holding baby (and that's an 18-lb workout in itself) or getting up and down off the ground with him, or doing chores, etc. But despite not eating the best yet (it is the holidays!), I'm still losing weight so I'm not going to worry about it quite yet. I'm sure exclusively breastfeeding/pumping helps, and after the holidays I'll get back on track with my eating habits.

I am in complete agreement with the pp who mentioned diet is more important than exercise when losing weight. If I watch my diet, I can lose weight. But if I exercise on top of that, I have never seen any additional weightloss ... just more tone and strength. And eating better doesn't take any more time out of my day. Going to the gym right now is VERY low on my priority list. I wake up for work at 5 a.m. as it is, then only have a few hours with baby after work before he goes to bed. I'm not willing to sacrifice any more time with him or sleep for the sake of a workout right now. It's just not that important to me :)
  • @dmbfan46835 I loved your post! So inspiring! Thanks I'm going to try this routine :#
  • @dmbfan46835 thanks for inspiring! What's T25? and how do you make your nutribullet shake - I'm looking for a good one.

@susubaby oh yay! I am glad. It's so worth it:) I feel less tired on the days that I work out, you'd think it would be the other way around!

@imsoexcited915 t25 is a program by beach body. It's kind of a hybrid of insanity and p90x but it's only 25 mins. It is amazing! I was in the best shape of my life when I did this before I got pregnant. And it's so doable and doesn't get boring.

As far as our nutribullet shakes, I used to follow the recipe book that came with it so it would taste "good", now we just do it daily for the nutrients. I always use kale, baby carrots, banana, a scoop of green super food powder, flax and chia seeds, and a scoop of peanut butter. The rest depends on what we have and what's in season, so strawberries, raspberries, black and blue berries, mango, apples and pears. And then vanilla almond milk. Sometimes it's delish, sometimes it tastes like ass. But we drink it for the health benefits and not the taste so as soon as I got over that part the taste never really bothered me. Let me know if you have anything good you have found, nothing beats a shake for breakfast!

ETA- making the shake is a good way to talk to LO too, I show him all the veggies and fruits and describe their shapes and colors to him and let him see what I do to them and count out the pieces if I cut anything up. He LOVES it :)
