  • thank you ladies for all the kind support. It made me feel so good to see everyone's kind thoughts..

Glad to hear you're ok, but it's troubling to hear that they don't know what's going on. If they're using a portable EKG, I don't understand why it would've taken so long. Every nurse, medic, and provider in my clinic is trained to use one and they're actually quite easy to run...maybe it's different for pregnant females. Maybe your regular OB will have some ideas or be able to run more tests?

I originally thought it may be anxiety, but it's not my business whether or not you have any history with it and the swelling seems more than psychosomatic. If putting up your feet and relaxing is what helped, there's absolutely no shame in taking off work to take care of yourself and your son; plus, it sounds like the big reviews are done at your job. Maybe your body is just asking you to slow down? Keep us posted!

Glad to know you are home and well! I Can't comment in the sudden BP , but what came first, the chest pain or the BP?

Other than ECG, were any other tests done?

Where was the chest pain? How did it feel? Was it better or worse with certain positions? Did you have shortness of breath also? I can't diagnose you from here of course, but when I hear about a pregnant woman with acute chest pain I think of spontaneous coronary dissection (SCAD) or pulmonary embolism (don't freak out, I'm not saying this is what you have, all I'm saying is that we usually try to rule out the most extreme diagnoses first. If you had SCAD it would have likely been apparent on your ECG).

Also, 'tis the season for viral pericarditis - I've had two in my hospital service this week already. I don't mean to scare you, just giving you my thoughts as a cardiologist. If you still have pain, I would definitely be seen again.

Another possibility is esophageal spasm or reflux.

    Hugs and feel well soon!
  • @kalanieileen oh how scary :( I really hope you can get some more testing done to figure out what it was. But really glad to hear you're back home and baby Ayden is doing good <3
I second what @AmadorRose said, perhaps this is your body trying to tell you to take it easy. I had a similar experience two years ago and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance because the pain was so bad I felt like I was about to die. When I arrived and calmed down it turned out to be an anxiety attack and it was my body's way of telling me it was stressed. So please take care of yourself, gorgeous!

Glad to hear everything turned out okay, though I'm sure you would feel more reassured if they had some sort of explanation. You definitely did the right thing getting checked out. I have no medical background, but my first thought from your description is that it reminded me of my sister's experience with pre-eclampsia, which I am sure L&D and your OB has been screening for protein in your urine, though in my sister's case she never showed protein. Glad to hear you're resting and baby is doing well.

  • thank you ladies for all the kind support. It made me feel so good to see everyone's kind thoughts..<3 Update: L&D staff is not entirely sure why my BP rose suddenly. Nurse mentioned my symptoms sounded like a heart attack but she strongly feels it wasn't a heart attack, especially for my age (25). They monitored FHR--a healthy 144 While I was there, an EKG was ran which came back normal. My BP lowered the longer I rested. When I was admitted it was 138/95, which is when my chest pain was severe, and when I was discharged my BP was 106/67. @thaisac1 they ran the EKG towards the end of my stay, when my BP leveled out to normal again. It took forever for the tech to arrive any sooner. If they had ran the EKG when I was first admitted with the high BP, would it be possible for them to have seen something abnormal? I just wish I knew why I had a sudden raise in BP. I'm home resting now, but as I type this I started to feel the ache in my chest again. It makes it a bit difficult to breathe. But LO is kicking like crazy right now, I think he's telling Mommy that everything is going to be ok <3
So scary! Glad you're feeling better... try to relax and take it easy!

No prob - no Target in Canada. :D
Note to self - never move to Canada!!!
They actually opened a few stores here last year, but it was a major failure. It's like they weren't even trying. Having lived in the US, I can say that Target's efforts in Canada were ridiculous. They did not have all the products and the quality they had in the US. It's like they had a half-ass try to enter the canadian market, but because the products they offered were not good/ nothing special, Canadians didn't accept it well. As a result they had to pull a huge loss and close all of the brand new stores, and stop construction of many other stores they were working on. It was a big shame.

I can't be too sure which came first. The chest pain caused my to check my BP, but i am not sure which actually came first.

A urine sample was ran for proteins to determine pre-eclampsia but none was found. The chest pain felt more so on the left side and towards the middle of my sternum. It was a deep feeling, like something was sitting on me, making it difficult to breathe.

I didn't feel too much pain while I was at the hospital, of course. But when I went home, the pain returned for a little bit, of course *eye roll* haha

My OB prescribed ranitidine just in case it was acid reflux. I have GERD even before I was pregnant, and the pain felt so different. But, can't rule that out!

Thank you for your support though, as well as everyone else :) I see my OB on the 21st so I can speak to her more then.

    How are you feeling now?

It is possible that the acute distress caused by the pain led to an elevation of BP - a physiologic response. The important thing is to keep rechecking your BP while you are pain-free to make sure it is normal.

Was the pain worse when you laid down and/or better when you leaned forward?

Agree that the pain you are describing does not sound like GERD…

Have you had any more chest pain? If you do, I'd definitely be seen again.

Hope that was the end of it though, and no more scares for you!

  • Seriously fighting the urge to eat all of the gingerbread cookies my mom just bought. My child has tasted Heaven and wants more.

We just lent $325 to the godparents so that they can move soon. They got accepted for the apartment, but were denied a loan. Now we're just waiting to get accepted into the same apartment complex. Looks like we could be neighbors.

  • @kalanieileen Thinking of you. How are you doing?
  • @NachosAndPeaches late to the persimmon party, but I just found some at Winco if you have one near you!
  • My bump finally "popped." It never popped with DS1, so this is weird for me. I was able to wear regular jeans my entire pregnancy last time, and kept thinking I would be able to again this time as long as my jeans were low rise. I haven't been able to button most of my jeans for the last few days, but everywhere else they fit. Bought myself a bellaband to keep my pants up, since I don't want to buy maternity jeans.

  • MIL won't allow me to have caffeine while I'm in her house. Yes, the person carrying a child who has a full-time job, a house, and is enlisted in the military is not ALLOWED to have a soda or cup of coffee. I got a cup of coffee yesterday because we went out for lunch and it was GLORIOUS but not enough to carry me through the week. I know the migraine is coming and I'm starting to get nauseous. I fucking hate Christmas and I want my own mom.

Seriously, there's a reason depression rates rise around the holidays and yes, I know how stupid it is to get upset over a morning cup of coffee but migraines, dammit!
  • @AmadorRose I'd be furious! No way in hell could I deal with that.

Ugh. It's not just about a cup of coffee, though. You're being infantilized and treated like you're incapable of making your own decisions for your life and you're totally justified to be pissed!
Agree. This is what would bother me about it too. Sorry @AmadorRose :(
  • If you have a coffee shop in the area that will grind coffee beans for you, ask them to put regular coffee in a decaf bag. Sneaky sneaky. If she's going to treat you like a child, then act like a rebellious teenager! @AmadorRose

Winter is the worst... I keep thinking "oh, it's almost Christmas, which means Valentine's Day is next... I I've means my birthday is right before that and I don't wanna be old..." I also just don't want to deal with Valentine's Day because it's stupid and it completely ruins most of my birthday plans every year. I don't want the candy that you didn't want for Valentine's Day for my birthday because you forgot about it! Plus, we don't have the money to do a birthday trip this year.

@fbanke42 Valentine's Day is dumb anyway. But soon thereafter we'll have new babies and not be pregnant anymore!

When I'm really bored, I'll stalk to BMBs and sift until I find good stuff. No shame.
  • So I was at my friends' house today for the Christmas dinner with some of my closest friends and two of them have kids around 8 years old. I tend to forget the kids are there and I talk like a pirate at times. One of my friends kept saying stuff to annoy me in to which I responded "it's not like I can lick my own v*****" (don't ask about the context) and I saw the little girl just staring at me, terrified. Then I realized what I had just said in front of two 8-year olds. Her mother's response: "revenge will be sweet. Just wait until your son grows up".

How am I ever going to become a proper mother lol

I know my kids are going to be the ones that "teach" all of the other kids "bad words." We've been making bets on what curse word our child will say first. I grew up hearing all of it. My parents emphasized that some words were not appropriate to say in public, and that some were not appropriate to say for our current age. My parents never had a problem with us cursing in front of the wrong people. Once we reached 16+, we were free to use curse words as long as we were not calling someone something impolite.

  • I seriously can't wait to be out of this house. I forgot how much negativity there is at my parents place. As soon as tax returns come in, we're leaving... I just want my own space and to start setting up the room for the boys. Not being able to do anything for LO is killing me.

  • @elasticheart13 My two year olds first curse word was shit. He made a song out of it.
He has recently taken to calling his older brother a "tiny little jerk ass"...I don't even know. And yesterday he told me," I do too have to go in the damn store!"
Obviously, our kids are going to be friends ;)
  • So this is just not my week... On the way to pick DH up from work tonight, I was in an accident and totaled my car. Another driver pulled out in front of me from a parking lot when I had the right of way on the street. Air bags deployed, the whole shabang. I was taken to the nearest hospital to be checked. In the ambulance BP was 150/95 caused by stress of accident. When I was admitted by BP was 120/80. Nurse was able to find FHR at 145 after a couple of minutes. They're monitoring me for pre-term labor. Doc said it can be caused by trauma or placental abruption, and normally occurs a few hours after trauma. Since baby is not 24 weeks we know what that means if I deliver...Obviously this is worst case scenario that doc had to prepare me for. But still terrified of that possibility.

I'm pretty banged up, whole right boob and left knee is purple and bruised, I have bruises all over abdomen, I have cuts and rashes from airbag impact and seatbelt burn. My chest feels heavy and my back is killing me. Other than that my vitals are good for having been in an accident. Just praying that my baby continues to be ok and I can carry full term.

I'm typing this in the hospital bed to keep my mind from wandering to scary places. Now I will watch re run episodes of the office on Hulu until I can get discharged.

  • Haha, it was a very interesting evening. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who apparently doesn't know how to talk in front of kids :D

    @emgee27 that is so exciting!

  • @kalanieileen I'm so sorry to hear about your accident!! I am sending you positive, healthy vibes!! I'm so glad you are being monitored and that all vitals are looking good. ((Hugs))
