What kind/how many stollers does baby need??

Hi guys,
FTM and I'm not really sure about all this baby gear! I would like to get a travel system so I can easily transition baby from the car to the stroller. But it seems that they grow out of these types pretty fast, no? How long should baby be able to use this type of car seat/stroller? And when they grow out of it, what kind of stroller do they need next? Help please! Thanks =)

Re: What kind/how many stollers does baby need??

  • We used and loved the Baby Trend system: https://www.target.com/p/baby-trend-expedition-jogger-columbia/-/A-12919608#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=baby+trend+jogger

The infant carrier snaps in while they're still small enough to fit in it, and then they fit comfortably until they're old enough (and have enough stamina!) to walk on their own. The price point is great, and the wheels are rubber and pretty much glide over everything! It folds down easily and to a decent size, too.

  • Loading the player...
  • You don't need multiple strollers. We got a Ciry Mini GT stroller and the car seat adapter that lets the seat click in. The baby has outgrown his infant car seat, but will use the stroller for a long time.
  • Travel system will last til toddlerhood and beyond as long as they can fit in it. (Obviously not the car seat). We also have a couple umbrella strollers for under $20. We use them for the airport because your stroller gets checked/valet and for quick trips when we don't want the hassle.
  • We have a City Micro and a Bob Jogger.  If I didn't run with DS, we would have been fine just just the City Micro.

Start with 1 and adjust later as necessary.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • We have three - and I am glad we did.  I got a jogging stroller off craigslist, we got the infant car seat/travel stroller set from Chicco that we use most often (small and lightweight), and we also got an umbrella stroller (cheapo) for airports.  But the umbrella stroller wasn't needed until my DS was like 2.

I may sell our Chicco and look into a sit and stand stroller for when #2 arrives.

  • We bought a travel system because the stroller will still be good for a toddler even after they've outgrown the car seat. I didn't buy an umbrella stroller or anything as I babywear so anywhere I needed something lighter than a normal stroller I just wore DS. Will do the same for this one.

  • At one point we had 3, and it was ridiculous. Now we have 2 and are happy. When our baby was about a toddler we got a cheap umbrella stroller we could throw in the trunk and use when our toddler is feisty (aka ALWAYS!) We also have one of those strollers you can put the baby car seat straight into. Love it.

For a while we had a jogging stroller. It was huge, bulky and hard to steer! It would have been nice if I wanted to off-road or take my baby to the pier, but I never did and never used it when I did.... Skip the jogger unless you LOVE running.

  • It's all dependent on your lifestyle. For us, we used the car seat + the Chicco Caddy Stroller frame when DD was a baby, and then went straight to the Chicco Echo (a semi-umbrella stroller) when she was able to sit up on her own. I didn't need an "off-road" stroller, since I was mostly using the stroller in the mall and on sidewalks. We live in a rural area, so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a stroller I wouldn't use that often. I hate huge bulky strollers (both because they're hard to navigate, and they take up a lot of room in the car), so our two stroller setup worked well for us. It could be totally different for you!
  • This is the one I'm looking at (also a FTM)

    https://uppababy.com/vista/overview/

I like that it has the bassinet that can be detached and the baby moved while sleeping and has an optional stand so it can be a full time bassinet. It also includes the click in car seat ... But it's going to be $1,000 when it's said and done (jaw drops lol)

I've got to price out the cost of a bassinet, car seat, and stroller separately and see if I can justify it.
  • @gauge1234 if you're planning on a second baby, the vista might be a good deal. We are planning to get it for that reason. My good friend has a 2.5 yr old and an 8 month old and she's very happy with it. I love using it with both of them when I go out with them.

I bought the Vista because you can eventually have two toddlers in the stroller plus one standing in back. I love the fact that you can take the bassinet right out and it is approved for overnight sleeping. Each of the seats are SUPER easy to put in and take out, they recline and they can be front or back facing which is nice.

It was definitely expensive (I got a great deal so I feel less guilty) but I think it will be worth it because this is the only stroller on plan on buying.

@gauge1234 mine did not include the car seat. Where did you find one that did?

  • I think you only need one stroller, but it should definitely be a jogging stroller! I don't run, at all, but a jogging stroller was the best investment! We got one with small bike wheels and I never struggle pushing when all my friends are getting a workout pushing their smaller wheeled strollers. They maneuver so easily and can handle any turrain!
  • A lot depends on your lifestyle and where you live.

We are in suburbia and used the stroller mostly for going from the car into stores and back and for walks around the neighborhood and around the zoo and such. A stroller frame that takes a bucket seat, like the Snap n Go, was the best thing for us when DS was little and then a fancier umbrella stroller that reclines and has taller handles became our go-to when he outgrew the bucket seat. We have a Graco travel system too but almost never used that stroller outside of our neighborhood because it took up too much trunk space in our not-very-large cars.

I have friends who are runners and actually use their joggers for jogging. I have friends who take public transit a lot and have expensive lightweight travel systems that are a must have for that. It all depends on your needs.

  • We have two: a lightweight umbrella stroller that we keep in the car and use a lot but it's not good for little babies. We have the clunky one that you can stick the car seat in or use in its own but like I said... It's clunky. No jogging stroller bc I don't jog. :# I'm going to buy a double stroller used soon probably a sit n stand.

  • We've been looking at the bob motion travel system. It has a lot of the features of their jogging stroller, but is a little smaller and lighter. With an adapter, the britax car seat snaps in and when baby is older they can use it like a regular reclining stroller. They also make attachments like the skateboard for older kids to ride along. Unfortunately they're hard to find in stores, so I plan to buy one from a store with a good return policy to be able to try it out before I decide.

  • @laurenm2123 I was mistaken. The car seat is an extra but it does click in and out.

The vista looks super customizable... I'm going to keep my eye out for a deal!
