Gender Reveals for Siblings

Has anyone done any/have plans to do any fun/creative gender reveals specifically for the older siblings? I'd like to do a special reveal for my two boys once we find out what this baby is, since they're old enough to be excited to find out! I thought something more fun than just having them with at the ultrasound..but just for them (I think as the older brothers, they should get to know before the other relatives!) I know theres some gender reveal threads out there, but I saw mostly ideas for all the relatives, not specifically geared towards little kids...I just want to make it special/exciting for them! Share any ideas/pics if you'd like too! :)

Re: Gender Reveals for Siblings

  • I didn't do anything special, but I had the midwife write down the gender in an envelope and let my older son (age 9) read it to everyone (just my husband, myself and the other kids.) I videotaped it also.

  • I have two boys, too. My plan is to have the ultrasound tech write the gender down on a piece of paper and seal it up. Then I'm taking it to a bakery to have them do a cake with pink or blue on the inside. Then on the night we cut the cake we are having a small gender reveal party with close family. We are going to tell our boys then that I'm pregnant (they don't know yet bc I've had several miscarriages and just can't bring myself to tell them yet and then have to take it back if something happens). Anyway, well tell them before the party and then find out what it is all together. We've alwAys just found out at the ultrasound so this is kind of exciting!

  • Fun that you're telling them you're pregnant AND what it'll be at the same time, what a surprise for them! A friend of mine took her kids out for ice cream and they got pink or blue sprinkles to tell what it was. :) I have another month before we find out, so figured I could start collecting ideas a little early.

We're doing this, as well, only it'll just be our small family, along with a close friend who will video it to send to our parents.
  • Great question. I have two boys as well and they want a sister. I don't have much preference. Not sure how we will tell them but I will come back if I think of something!
  • I need some ideas also!! My 4 year old son does NOT want a brother!! He told me he would not talk to me until I got him a sister!! Lol I'd love to have a girl but he's pretty determined!!
  • We are going to have the tech write down the sex and then the plan *right now* is to have powdered paint that we will squirt on each other and have a friend photograph it for us.   We have gone to the color run as a family for the last 3 years so I think it will be a fun way to reveal the sex.

  • This is our first but for our families, we're wrapping up a bouquet of balloons (blue/pink) in a big box and giving it to them as a Christmas gift. This is for our parents/siblings, but it might work for kids too.
  • We have our u/s on Wednesday and are going to ask the tech to put one of two little cabbage patch dolls that I bought into a box that we will later wrap - the boy is a frog and the girl is a pink leopard (kind of silly, but they are really cute). I am going to let my 3 year old son open the box on Christmas, so we won't actually find out at our scan.

Then we are having my parents, my sister and her kids over on Christmas afternoon, so I decided I will fill some black balloons with blue or pink confetti (I'm just ripping up streamers cause it is cheaper) and give one to each kid and tell them to try to pop them. This should work as long as my son doesn't spill the beans, since he will already know.

I did a practice run with the balloons with my boys and it was pretty funny to watch them sitting on them. Also, I learned I need to fill the balloons pretty full or their 30 lbs of weight really is not enough to make them pop!
