January FET Buddies - Frozen Snowflakes!

PiperellaPiperella member
edited December 2015 in Infertility
Hi all!  I've been a regular in the Nov/Dec IVF group, and while I had an egg retrieval, I had to freeze all my eggs because I had signs of OHSS. I'm planning to have a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) in January 2016 and wanted a place for others that may be doing the same.  I'm looking forward to getting to know some more new people while transferring over to this board while waiting on my FET.  The earliest it could be the week of Jan. 11th due to the clinic closing for the holidays.

Introduce yourself and let us know when your FET is scheduled and what you are doing to prepare.

Re: January FET Buddies - Frozen Snowflakes!

  • Still waiting to find out how many embies made it to freeze, but RE said end of January transfer. I'll have a more precise date in a couple of weeks when I have my follow up with RE. I'll be on BCP once AF shows up after the retrieval.

  • Hello! I recognize some from other boards, but I am also planning on a FET in January following a failed fresh transfer in November. We have one frozen embaby, so FX this is the one for us. Doing an endometrial stimulation this month and FET should be about the 2nd week of January. In the meantime, I am getting back into the running and working out that I was not allowed to do for too long! Good luck to all, lots of baby dust!
  • ***bfp and loss mentioned***

Hi everyone, I'm jumping on to this board. I had a fresh IVF transfer in November that resulted in a BFP, but unfortunately my embaby stopped developing at 5-6 weeks. I'm actually still waiting to miscarry. As long as my body cooperates with me, my FET will be in January. I'm fortunate to have 9 frozen embryos, but scared they are not all normal as we did not do chromosome testing. We'll most likely transfer two this time.

I really hope I don't have to be on BCP. I really hate them. The pills they put me on before my stims started made me bloated, constipated, tired and insatiably hungry.

Like @erinscaren I am looking forward to working out again. FX to all the January FETs.
  • So glad you ladies have joined and hopefully a few others I've seen will join in too. I'm at a work conference in DC this week so I'm just trying to relax and take it easy. Trying to come around to knowing there's just going to be a lot of waiting going on in December. Hope everyone has a good start to the week.
  • Hi!
I am also due for FET in Jan. This is my first time on this board and I am so thankful to have a place to read and share. I just got over the egg collection last week, also PCOS patient, so cannot transfer and need to wait a cycle. We got quite a few eggs due to my PCOS but I needed a lot of days to recover - it was very painful - my ovaries were the size of basketballs it seemed!
I look forward to reading your stories and wish us all a lot of luck for the Jan transfers! Any tips on how to prepare?

  • Hi all! I'll be joining the FET journey for January as well (date TBD). Last BCP will be on 12/25 and estradiol with the first day of AF's visit. This will be our 4th attempt (2 fresh and 1 frozen (all failed) transfers). We have 4 grade A and 2 grade B embabies waiting for us. We pray that we'll have our healthy rainbow baby/babies soon because I'm not sure how I'll handle another BFN!

Sticky embabies and prayers for all!!!
  • Hi ladies!

I'm also planning on a FET in January. (7 embryos in the freezer)
I had an ER and an ET in November. Was overstimulated with 16 egg and waited for a 5 day embryo transfer.
I think it was to much for my body, I was bloated, very sore and very exhausted.
Ended up with a BFN this weekend..well not really tested, my body clearly showed that it didn't happen.

See some of you have PCOS and did not get ET right after?
Maybe that's what they should have done with me too...

Very nervous, as this is all so new to me..see so much information passing by, medication people talk about and when they start, they know dates, medications, how, when, ...
All I know is that my clinic is ready when I am. I could have gone this month, but my body said no.
So I'll try to enjoy the holidays, and not having a countdown to AF (who knew that I would look forward to AF!)

Best of luck to you ladies, I'll keep my FX.
May our 2016 start with two pink lines!

Hi all. Today I'm just feeling down in the dumps. After is currently visiting, but she didn't come soon enough for a Dec FET, and came too early for January's. I start on BCP on Saturday for 2.5 weeks and see the doctor on 12/28 for baseline ultrasound. That should hopefully target me for an FET the week of January 11th. I'm tired of waiting, and I miss the anxiety if that makes sense.
  • Hi @piperella!

    That makes soooooo much sense!
It feels like 'wasted' time those in betweens.
The anxiety means something is happening, and you are a step closer to getting your dream fulfilled.
Lets cross our fingers for good news on 12/28 that you'll get your FET the week of January 11th!

  • Hello ladies, I'm struggling at this moment and I figured this board could help. We plan on our 2nd FET in January I'm thinking it should take place about the 3rd/4th week as long as AF comes either end of Dec. or first week of Jan. Ladies I've had one of the worst years of my life and idk if I'm ready for January. We started our IVF journey with our second RE in April 2015, our first fresh was a fail in June & our first FET was a BFP but ended before our 6th week (our first time becoming pregnant in 10+years) I had high hopes after our MC but then we received devastating news about our only fur baby girl, she was diagnosed with bone & skin cancer, we did everything we could financially to keep her happy and comfortable but unfortunately everything turned for the worst this week 12/8/15 and we had to send her to Heaven, she would have been 8 years old in January, my heart is broken and I can't stop crying all I want is for her to be back home with us and our fur boys. I know it's selfish but I miss her more then I could ever explain, I've been worried that my stress is going to make my FET fail I have such high hopes, we have 5 embabies left and we plan on transferring 2. I've keep up on my vitamins, I was walking everyday but with my girls sickness/care needs and now passing I haven't walked in a month or so I was going for acupuncture also but I stopped that also, I feel that I may go this Saturday I'm under so much stress I need help to take this edge off of my broken heart. Ladies do you feel it would be foolish of me to start my meds and PIO injections for my FET in January? RE believes that my progesterone levels are what caused my MC as there is no other sign to point to, I started spotting brown 3 days after my first beta of 132 so RE feels starting PIO injection right away would be more beneficial to my body then just the progesterone vag. Inserts and that will be the only change to our treatment plan for this 2nd FET..... Ladies please I need your advice, your help, your strength, I feel that I'm ready, I've waited 3 months but also a part of me is scared, to loose again after so much recent loss idk what that will do to me, I'm a strong woman I've taken a lot of theses twists and turns with not much grief but I also have my moments where I feel I'm going to loose it.... Anything you ladies can say would be greatly appreciated with helping me to move on to our Jan FET, I want to be a mama so bad and I know my fur girl wouldn't want me to miss out on what I'm longing for.....
  • Hi @kmartinez209 - sorry to hear about your recent loss. I don't think anyone can really give you any advice on whether to go ahead with the FET or not. In the end you need to feel ready and know deep down if you can do this. Most importantly you need to be sure that you can emotionally deal with a possible negative result. I am sure if you listen, your heart will tell you what you really want. Stay strong

  • @flanners1 Thank you for the encouragement to listen to my heart, I appreciate the response, I don't want to give up and I always pray for a positive but I know nothing in this world is a guarantee as I recently encountered
  • I'm going to do some deep would searching and follow my heart which I hope leads me to my healthy bundle of love, thank you again!!

  • Hi @kmartinez209
Sorry to hear you lost your furbaby. I experienced the same in August. It hurts when they pass away. But they are in good hands, and are well taken care of where they are now.

Just remember you have a special angle looking out for you!

To start or not to start is only something you can decide.
I've been told that I should not worry about my worrying as it has no effect on the little snowflake. Of course for us mothers-to-be it would be so much better if we didn't. Our days would just be so much easier, smoother and well less emotional.

It's hard loosing your furbaby and starting a new FET. Lots of emotions extra hormones all running around in your body. Like it wouldn't be freaking hard without the hormones, but let's add some to make you really loose the plot.
It will be hard on you, I am not going to lie, but it will be soooo worth it too in the end!

And hey, if January is not your month, coz you need an extra month to breath. Take it! I heard February is also a great month to try to get pregnant! (Even March, April, May, ...)

Take your time. Take the breaths you need. Someone told me, go spoil yourself, massage, chocolate, new shoes, .. anything that makes you happy :)
And so what you haven't been for a walk...go for a walk tomorrow (you know, wearing those cute new shoes, after that fantastic massage you had)

Whatever you decide will be the right decision, that little peanut it sitting up there, waiting for you when you are ready to give it another go.

Sending you lots of warm thoughts.
From one badass woman to another x

  • @kmartinez209 I'm sorry to hear about your last year. I hope you can find the strength to continue on this journey--whether you decide to have your FET in January or take a break. I know how hard it is to get pregnant for your first time and lose it only after a few weeks and to lose a fur baby. It's very hard, but we have to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it just takes time to heal. I know it's a lot easier said than done. Good luck.

I found out yesterday that my HCG level has risen back to 56, up from 18 one week ago. My RE thinks possible ectopic. I have to go in on Monday for another beta and a US. Not sure if anything can be seen at such a low beta. I am really scared. I've been very bloated and constipated since Thursday night. Last night I started feeling light left-side pelvic pain. I've been bleeding since Monday, which I thought was normal since I thought I was having miscarrying. If it gets worse before my appointment on Monday, I will go to ER. I really hope this does not delay my January FET. Right when I was emotionally feeling better and ready to move on another obstacle to go through.
  • Hi all! Was waiting to join the group until I was certain I would be have a Jan FET. I had a fresh transfer in November that didn't work out (early mc.) We have 5 snowflakes that we're all frozen on day 3 (which is still a little concerning to me!) Anyone have any day 3 snowflakes? It doesn't seem to be common practice.

    When is everyone's AF due?
  • @ChristinaV2015 I have 7 day 5 embryos and 2 day 6 embryos. I haven't heard of day 3 embryos being frozen. AF started for me last night and I'll start BCP tomorrow after blood work and ultrasound. My FET is scheduled for January 25th!

Hi @christinaV2015 in Denmark 3day embryos are normal to freeze.
With me, as I took out 16 eggs, they waited until day 5 as I had lots of eggs to 'gamble' with.
Ended up with 8 on day 5. One got placed back and the others got frozen. Unfortunately the one placed back in November did not want to share its birthday with me, and decided not to stay.
My colleague who gets IVF done her in Noway has only had 3day embryos, and is on her try for a second child.

My AF is not until the 6th jan. So am a little worried/unsure how I can be ready around the 25th as well as @takethelongway is...

  • Does everyone/anyone know their FET protocol yet? I'm just curious to see what everyone else is doing and how it compares to mine.

I'm currently on CD 4 and I started BCP yesterday. I am taking those until 12/29. On 12/27 I start 10iu of Lupron. I go back in for a baseline on 1/4 and then begin a lower dose of Lupron and add baby aspirin and Minivelle estrogen patches. The night before transfer I get to start PIO and keep that going until beta and hopefully after. Transfer date is 1/25 and beta date is 2/4.

  • @takethelongway Hello fellow FET sister, We are going to be having our FET around the same week as you, I should start my AF around first week of Jan. Last FET I didn't use BCP that was only with our Fresh cycle, I'll start estrogen for sure/possibly baby Asprin the day after I start my period, then about a week 1/2 or less from starting the estrogen I'll have my lining checked, this go around we will start vag and PIO after lining check, I'll have my progesterone levels checked before transfer this time as I had bleeding and MC last FET so we're changing my progesterone protocol this time, once my levels are to where they need to be I'll have my acupuncture that morning of transfer and right after.... I actually think you and I will transfer on the exact week YAY!! Keep me updated!! Great luck to you!! XoXo
  • Hello ladies!  I went for my "endometrial activation" procedure today, surprising much less painful than I was expecting.  Just got the call on my bloodwork and progesterone was 0.1, so I did not even ovulate this month.  Guess my ovaries are taking a break after last month.  So starting Provera for 10 days to induce AF and then will start estrace and vivelle patches.  Transfer will be around the 2nd week of January depending on my lining on ultrasound.  Doctor says 97% of embryos survive the thaw and they thaw 1 hour prior to procedure.  Scary!
  • Hi! I was thinking we were doing a Jan FET, but we have yet to get our protocol. The RE is closed from Christmas to Jan, so our appt next is Jan 8.
Out situation is different. They are doing the ER on my wife and then doing a FET on me. I finished all my testing, mock cycle, etc. I am on CD 3 and starting bcps. We are either awaiting DW to have CD1 or for our appt. I feel so lost. How soon did you get your protocols? We have been testing since Nov and we're told out FET would "prob be around the end of Jan". But at this point I have no idea! Lol

  • Hi ladies! Looks like my FET is going to be pushed to February or March--need to have two periods. Just had two shots of methotrexate today because my HCG levels were continuing to increase, decrease then increase again. So bummed I'm going to have to wait longer, but glad I'm finally going to get some closure from this "pregnancy of an undetermined location" as my RE called it. Hopefully I don't have bad side effects. I can't drink while on this medication, so the next few weeks are going to go by very slow.

Wish you all good luck on your upcoming FETs. Fx for sticky beans and I hope I don't see any of you in a February or March FET thread!
  • @takethelongway Here is my FET protocol.  I am new to IVF, so I have no clue if any of this looks normal.

April 2016: BFP, the old fashioned way.

  • @babyexpress your IVF protocol looks normal although you are having a fresh transfer not an FET (frozen embryo transfer).
  • @Rachd110 Thanks for feedback! They gave me my pricing in advance, including freezing the embryos.  But i guess they have me on a fresh transfer instead?? They haven't really discussed that detail with me.

Hi Ladies! I am scheduled for my FET first or second week of January.  I am taking Estrodiol right now to prep and go for bloods and ultrasound on the 28th.  I'm 31 with PCOS.  We tried IUI for six months, one resulted in a chemical and the rest were BFN's.  We did a retrieval right after Thanksgiving but did not do a fresh transfer because I had OHSS.  I am hoping for a New Year's Blessing and praying that all works out.  We had 19 follicles retrieved, and 11 fertilized, and 4 more it to blasts to be frozen.  Doctor says they are beautiful embryos and that he is very optimistic for us.  Fingers crossed for all of us!
  • Hi all, I am getting a bit confused as everyone seems to be on some major protocols? I just got Progesterone to take 3x a day and will see my RE this coming week to check lining and blood work. FET is scheduled for the first of Jan (auspicious, I am hoping). What's all this baby aspirin and all the other various meds you are all talking about? I have PCOS, did ER last cycle, couldn't do fresh transfer due to possible overstimulation. Just curious if anyone else is on same treatments as me. Best of luck to all x

  • @flanners1 I do not have baby ASA on my protocol either. I'm taking provera to induce AF since I did not ovulate this month. Once AF starts, I start estradiol patches and estrace by mouth. Once I am closer to the transfer, I will start endometrin once a day and then increase to three times a day. Are they not having you do any estrogen supplement? Just progesterone?
  • Hi @flanners1!  I am currently on BCPs for 2.5 weeks to stimulate a period because my last period started too early for the Jan FET.  I had OHSS, so I am the retrieval at the end of November.  I go back to the RE on 12/28 and will stop taking BCPs and will start taking estrogen (think as patches).  I'll know more at the appt.  The lab that does the FET doesn't open back up until 1/11, so we have to wait until then... Just a major waiting game for me and likely others at this point.  Lucky you to be able to have a FET at the very beginning of the new year!
  • Hi @flanners1, I got confused too!

I'll be taking estrogen 3 times daily from 2/3 day of AF.
Day 12 they'll check my lining, I will than start progesterone (not sure when, depends on lining)
Get FET 7 days after day 12 (if my body follows the 'script' so this may vary)
Then continuing both estrogen and progesterone until week 10 of pregnancy.
I have PCOS too, did had a ET after ER in November even though I was slightly overstimulated (16 eggs) but had no symptoms, they thought I could handle it.
    I hopefully start 7th January:)

  • Thanks for your answers everyone, I think my RE just doesn't tell me what I will be taking and makes sure I only think of one step at a time. Probably better! I also just googled the meds I am taking - and yes it's Oestregen, so it sounds like the same procedure. I must stop comparing and trusting my RE!
@tvh1982 hope this FET is the one for you! PCOS is a bi*** so I know how you feel. In my case RE prepared me before we even started the stim meds and said I will be overstimulating and we cannot do transfer right away. I had 30 eggs although they were very careful to stimulate me and monitor every day - so I was a walking balloon the week before and after. It took forever to recover and was extremely uncomfortable and outright painful to be honest...
Hope this FET goes well for all of us!

@babyexpress and @flanners1 Although you will learn a lot from Dr. Google and the very supportive women on here, make sure to ask your RE and/or nurse if you are confused and have questions because every case is different. I also felt very confused and uninformed during my first IVF cycle in November. I started taking baby aspirin before my fresh transfer just because I read other women were doing it. I finally asked my doctor about it last week and he said its prescribed to women with a thin lining and previous miscarriages. He said I don't have to take it. Fortunately, it did not have a negative effect on me.

I feel like most clinics treat you like a number. The staff do the same thing day in and day out they forget that this can be a first and a really scary experience for some of us. Dont be afraid to ask questions and ask as many as you need. We need to speak up for ourselves. I finally went in with a list of questions for my doctor last week and he answered everything. Laughed at some of my questions, but still answered it and made me feel good about my future FET. I wish I did that before my IVF. I even asked him questions about natural killer cells and autoimmune disorders...things we read online really get us paranoid. I'm going to try to avoid Google during my FET.

My RE was afraid of OHSS because I had 53 follicles develop for my fresh transfer, so I was given lupron for trigger rather than Ovidrel. Because lupron thins your lining, I had to take estrodrial vaginally 3x a day along with crinone once a day after my retrieval. For anyone who has to take the little blue estradiol pills vaginally good luck. It's really messy especially with the crinone. Try to find an applicator if you can.
  • Hello Ladies,
I'm from the Nov/Dec IVF group. I just found out today that my egg retrieval will be in the next couple days, however, my progesterone level is too high and now we will be freezing our embryos and doing a FET in January. I don't know my protocol yet. I assume they will go over it with me after the egg retrieval and knowing how many eggs we have to work with. I'm bummed that we can't do a transfer this cycle, but I guess it's best to wait and do it right.

A little about me, 31yrs old, DH 31 with severe MFI. We tried for a year and a half with him going to a urologist that was an idiot and finally ended up at the RE who gives it to us straight and told us that ivf is really our only chance to have a baby.

Good luck to everyone this month. We got this!
