What is your goal or plan? I'd be ok with 6 months because of nursing troubles / supply issues but I would go as long as about one year if it was still working out. Of course things might change.
My goal was four months. I wanted to make it at least 3 months with DS1 and didn't quite make it. I hit my goal last week and we switched over to full time formula. By the time I stopped he was barely getting a few ounces every day but it felt good to say he was still getting (some) BM for as long as he was.
I've always had supply issues so making it that long was a success in my book.
My plan is EBF for 6 months and continue nursing on demand for 1 year and even longer for evening feedings if he wants. I've been very fortunate in that I've had no issues with latch or supply. I live in Canada and have a full year off for leave. My husband and I are wanting to have children quite close in age though so I'm interested in seeing how this affects my fertility.
I keep making mini goals at fist it was till I went back to work then to get to 3 months and now it's to get to 6 months. I'm an EPer now and so far I have been able to keep up with him 95% of the time. I would love to make it a year but from every mom I have ever talked to that has EP dispite best efforts they dried up at 6 months.
My first goal was 3 months - woohoo we made it! Now I'll try for 6 mo, which I don't really doubt that we will make it. Breastfeeding has gone really great for us (after that first week of hell) lol I'll just keep breastfeeding until I'm tired of it I guess
My ultimate goal is a year. I struggled at first so started setting smaller goals as well. Next week will be 3 months and it's now going really well so I'm back to focusing on the year goal!
Firm goal of a year, but would be open to continuing beyond that. EBF for the first six months and then using baby led weaning. I am loving the bond of breastfeeding even more than I thought I would so I'm in no hurry to stop
I absolutely love bfeeding now!!! I found it hard at the beginning with both my babies. But..I have to go away in march for two nights. My LO will be 6 months then. I'm just concerned because at the moment he really doesn't like having a bottle :-( how do you make that transition? Do you just swap a feed to a bottle then build it up? What bottles does everyone recommend? We've got tommee tippee with a variflow teat and he just hates them! (Although might just hate the fact that it's formula right??) Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks xx
My goal was 6 months and then use the freezer stash for what I couldn't keep up with after that. Now I think I might try and keep up for the full year and use the freezer stash for anything after that. I bf and pump at work.
My goal right now is just to get baby breastfeeding at all. Undiagnosed posterior tongue tie and lip tie led to EPing and now he's got bottle preference. Waiting on insurance to get his ties revised and working with lactation to get him nursing right now. If I can get him on the breast even a few times a day after revision, my goal will be to BF for as long as he wants to. I didn't realize how badly I wanted nursing to work out until he stopped latching at all in favor of the bottles.
@Bethanie2 when you find the solution to your bottle troubles please let me know haha! We have tried avent, mam and mimijumi(expensive!) And so far no luck at all!
My little girl is 14 weeks today and for the past 2 weeks we have been trying to get her to take a bottle as 12 weeks was my goal...she has yet to take a ml! I have a kinda love hate relationship with breastfedding..i love it until i get mastitis (have had it 3 times)! I also didn't want to continue when she got teeth but looks like I will not have the choice and I will just have to let my little girl decide! I went out for my Christmas party hoping she would take a bottle then..instead she went 7 and a half hours without a feed but must have known I wasnt there cos she didn't even cry! I had to not drink and get the train home early! I do enjoy the close bond, the handyness of it and the fact that she has ever been ill x

It sucks how long it took to get a diagnosis. That was our issue as well. I hope he starts to like nursing. We do a lot of bottles but luckily she still nurses. Sometimes she hardly works at it. Just sort of sits there. That's the worst. Did you join the fb group? They have a preferred provider list. Feel free to talk to me about after care
I want to EBF til 6 months, BF on demand til 18mo, and hopefully at night til 2. I go back to work at 10mo, and I plan to pump til a year then use freezer stash while I work. With DD1 my goal was a year, and she self weaned at 26mo.
I want to do it a year. I also want to get pregnant end of next summer. I don't know if it will affect that goal.
^^^ this!! Most of my friends didn't get their period until after they weaned so I wonder if that will be the case for me as well. We'd love to start trying again in August or so but I also want up continue breastfeeding for a year. Hoping I still have a huge freezer stash and maybe I can wean in July and just pull from that?

I've thought about that too. If I have a big enough stash, maybe she will be okay with just bottles that last month or so

Hang in there! I EP'd with my first for one year. It's really tough and time consuming but it can be done!
My goal is a year. I've been very fortunate and have not had any problems with BF and hopefully that continues. I was so proud of myself, my body and my baby this past week making it 3 months BF!
My goal was 3 months, and I made it. We started supplementing at 2.5 months about 4-10 oz. a day, and are still going strong with that at almost 16 weeks. I'm now weaning from pumping at work and hoping to continue to BF morning, late afternoon and evening until at least 6 months.

You can try testing with an OPK when you're ready to see if you're ovulating. I was still BFing DD1 when we tried for this baby, and we got pregnant the first month! So shocked-because we tried for 8 months for DD1.
My goal is EBF for 6 months then begin solids in moderation. After a year I think I would go more for on demand or at night only. I've been extremely lucky with great production (well overproduction) and a great latch from my LO from the start. I think the hardest part for me is managing feedings when we are out due to my overproduction and fast let down it is always a mess to feed her and she is really loud which I find hilarious!
Still nursing DS1 who turned three in October at bedtime and morning wake-up, so I have no idea what LO will do, haha. Apparently, my toddler's goal is to never self wean, strong willed kid that he is.
I set mini goals for myself. My first goal was 3 months, and we made it exclusively BFing with pumping as well to build up a freezer stash. My next goal is 6 months, I am returning to work Jan 4th and will be pumping at 6am 2pm(lunch hour) and 10pm while BFing in the am and pm. If all goes well with that I will continue for 1 year, but that is it. I have been fortunate to have a high supply and no latch issues. I have about 200 ounces in freezer storage right now, but if things change and that supply dwindles down I have no reservations with giving formula as I know I've done the best I could! BFing and pumping is A LOT of work..we all deserve a pat on the back for even trying!
I'd like to make it a year. At one year I will drop the pump at work and just nurse in the morning and the evening. This is what I did with DS1 until he was 16 months.
I've set a firm goal of at least a year. Both my boys were BF for about 8 weeks, so I'm thrilled to have made it to 3 months already EBF! Baby girl won't take a bottle at all (or a pacifier), so it's straight from the tap!
My initial goal was 6 weeks. That came and went. Then 12 weeks. 4 months is almost here so my next goal is 6 months. LO will take a bottle but still prefers to nurse. So I feel like I can't stop until she gets better with taking a bottle. But I just take it day by day and week by week. Luckily no supply issues so far! But being back at work definitely creates a new challenge.
One year I'd like to have my body back to myself for at least 6 months before we start trying for the next one! And I couldn't imagine pumping at work any longer than a year.
I'm shooting for EBF for 6 months, lo is 3.5 months now. I am trying to build up a freezer stash to continue on a little past that, but I'm finding it hard to pump regularly. I'll return to work part time after new years, so we will see how that affects everything. I'll do my best to keep my supply up, and introduce formula when I need to. I'm thinking that being back to work will slow down supply, but I will only work a few days, so i should be able to pump enough on my off days to continue at least 2 more months.
My dream goal is 1 year. My goal is 6 months. we had a rough start with a tongue tie and then revision at 9 weeks! She will be 3 months on the 22nd and I can't believe we are almost to 3 months. This has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have already returned to work, so I just have to keep it up!
My goal is one year. I go back to work in February so we will see how that goes. I'm already pumping most of the time anyways! Part of me really wants to go for as long as possible and part of me is seriously looking forward to having my body back again. But I'm so grateful my body has allowed me this amazing experience.

I would like to breastfeed for a year. At a year, i will attempt to wean slowly and see how he does. This was my plan with my first and it worked well for us so we shall see. I've learned to set goals but be flexible too.
1 year but I live by the mini-goals: end of today, end of the week, 3 months, etc.
I don't have a supply issue and DD doesn't have latch issues - I just have flat/inverted nipples and have been using a shield since week 2. It's cumbersome and awkward. I'm glad that there is a relatively simple solution but it's a PITA. She is also pretty slow to eat most of the time so it feels like I spend most of my day feeding her. I have built up NO supply in the freezer as we end up using what I pump when we leave the house because shields make it hard and she's still eating about every 2 hours.
I have 2 older step-kids who are with us half time - I seriously can't spend as much time as I do feeding LO when the older two are still in the "no one is looking so I can get away with xyz" phase. Winter break has been interesting already. It's amazing what they decide to do when I'm nursing upstairs...
