Crohns/Colitis/IBD anybody?

Hey all. I'm 24 weeks, and have had Crohns disease for 4.5 years now. Up until the week before Thanksgiving it hadn't caused me any problems. However, I actually spent most of Thanksgiving in the ER because I've developed a flare. Just curious if any of you are dealing with this as well.

On plaquinel and no flares.. If anything preg constipation has pushed me towards "normal"... flares suck though... have you gotten steroids?

I've got IBD but it was pretty well regulated with diet and only occasional meds before pregnancy. Like MrsLeanMeanClean pregnancy has pushed me more toward normalcy luckily. I'll be thinKing about you though! Let us know how it goes? I hope you feel better soon!

I don't have it, but my SIL does. They are ttc and her ob told her that she will probably have a c-section to avoid a flare up during labor. Is this legit or is her ob nutso and section happy?

My SIL has crohns and had a normal vaginal delivery. I'm not aware of a flare up during labor. She did have a flare up when my niece was about 6 months old but I feel like that's too far from delivery to be associated.
I'm sorry you are struggling with a flare up currently. My SIL is also, unfortunately and we had to cancel our plans to celebrate her birthday this past weekend. I felt really bad

I have been on steroids for about a week. I'm wrapping up another stint in the hospital now. They've adjusted my steroid schedule to try and avoid gestational diabetes, and gave me a stronger pain medication to help me get through until the steroids really kick in. I haven't heard anything about me maybe needing a c section, but my chances of going into preterm labor is higher now.

We were working on a diagnosis before I got pregnant with this baby … weirdly this pregnancy has seemed to calm the symptoms I was having. Had just had an endoscopy, was supposed to have a colonoscopy scheduled, but I guess I'll just follow up after the babe is born.
Friend of mine is also pregnant with her 4th (and due the same day as me) – she has crohns and has had 3 vaginal births so far.
Hoping everyone here fairs well and stays flare free for the rest of your pregnancies (and after)!

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis 2 days before I found out I was pregnant! All has been okay so far, I've been really lucky because it does seem to be a mild case but its being controlled with mesalasine. Obstetrician is playing it all by ear on the delivery front but he seems to think I should be okay for a vaginal delivery. He just wants to inspect the perineum for scar tissue at 36 weeks and then go from there.

My sister is a doctor working in the obstetrics ward (she also has UC) and has warned me against a water birth when it comes to IBD. Purely because the people delivering the baby have no control over the head when it comes out making you more susceptible to tearing. Might be something to talk to your doctor about...

I thought the fact that nobody is "trying to control" what is coming out of your body naturally and just letting it do what it is supposed to do will help make you *less* susceptible to tearing. You're more susceptible to tearing when lying on your back pushing a baby out, esp when a bunch of people start putting their hands into things. But either way, I don't see how IBD and waterbirth are contraindicated. Sounds like something an OB who wants to keep things very mainstream-medicine would say.
