1st Trimester

Oh hi, morning sickness!

Hello! I'm a FTM learning about all of the joys of being pregnant.  Right now I'm 6 weeks, 3 days according to my LMP with my first appointment scheduled with my doctor on 1/5/16.  (I've never wanted to skip through the holidays so badly!!) This week I've experienced some pretty "fun" morning sickness.  I don't actually throw up, but I spend a lot of time dry heaving and feeling nauseous in the morning usually right when I wake up.  It is so hard going to work and no one know what's going on with me. I don't really want to share the news until we meet with the doctor and get through the first trimester.

In the meantime, if anyone has any advice on how they have coped with morning sickness, you will be my hero!

No matter how bad it gets, I keep telling myself that in the end, it's so worth it to have a beautiful, healthy baby enter our world.  We are so overjoyed and can't wait!

  • There's several ways to help manage the symptoms, but mostly you'll have to deal with it :(
Try keeping food on your night stand, don't let yourself get hungry, have several small snacks during the day, everything ginger or peppermint.
You can use the search function. This question is asked at least once every 2 days! You'll find more elaborate answers!

  • I had to eat a lot- don't go to bed without dinner (no matter how miserable you may be), I found I was so much worse if I did that. I ate dry snacks (crackers, popcorn, tortillas, etc). It sucks. Mine eventually went away around 18 weeks.
  • I'm 27 weeks pregnant and STILL have MS. If it gets to be really bad you can ask your doctor about Diclegis. It's an anti neusea medication and it's my life saver.
  • Eating crackers when I woke up in the morning helped me immensely.

  • Looks like saltines by my bed will be the way to go. I hope you all feel better soon!!
  • I had awful afternoon evening sickness. Bagels, sprite, LA croix, french toast and crackers saved my life. My sickness lasted from wk 5 to almost 11. Now I feel great. Hang in there,

Avoid places that smell like food or floor cleaners. BIG TIME. Cafeteria at work? That's RIGHT out :) At least it was for me. It smelled always like chicken and bleach. Absolutely miserable.

Sour fruit was my hero. Those little tiny clementine mandarin oranges? The really sour ones? I'd eat six or seven of those in a row and they didn't touch my sickness. That's me but it really helped. Might work for you? I also ate entire lemon wedges (skin and all) and that was divine.

Bananas for me were great. Some women hate them.
  • I had to continually eat for weeks 6-10. Been okay for the last week or so (11w4d) except yesterday morning when I was in my car and couldn't get the window down in time.... sick all over the driver's side window. Oops! Btw def use that search function you will find so many more suggestions and ridiculous MS stories that might make you feel better to know you are def not alone with this common symptom.
  • I've been avoiding my kitchen like crazy. I'm at 9w 2d and since Thanksgiving I've felt like I have the worst flu of my life. I had my first OB appointment last week and I don't have the flu, it's all the baby. Barely any food sounds appealing (ginger candy, rarely I'm in the mood for toast, cold fruit is usually fine, and sometimes pasta or rice) and every time I open the refrigerator I end up tossing my cookies :-/

Any ideas? Even if I can deal with this, I feel terrible that I haven't been able to make my husband dinner in over a week.
