Safe OTC meds for a cold?

I've had a sore throat since Tuesday morning and it has escalated into a horrible wheezing cough and congestion plus a headache and body aches. I know my OB gave me a list of safe OTC drugs but I somehow misplaced it (I just don't know how since my house is soooooo organized ;) ). My OB doesn't open till 9 and that's when DH has to be at work. I want to send him to the drug store for me so I don't have to leave the house feeling like death.

  • Wanted to add I've been trying natural remedies too. Honey and lemon, tea with honey and lemon, sleeping with the humidifier by my bed, sitting in the steamy bathroom. They help for a short time but then I'm back to feeling miserable. I normally tough out colds but this one is kicking my ass.

  • Ugh @MillerMama13, I started with a sore throat 2 weeks ago, turned into a full blown sinus infection, now on a zpak. Yuck, haven't taken a breath thru my nose or slept in weeks!

But this isn't about me ;) you can take Tylenol, Sudafed that's behind the drug counter, just plain Sudafed. I took zicam, and I discovered at 3am a couple nights ago that afrin is ok...tho addictive. That's a start, hope it helps!

  • Try apple cider vinegar, about 2 tablespoons, in a full bottle of water and drink it throughout the day. It helps with sore throats and congestion. I swear by it. Anytime I get a tickle in my throat I start drinking that everyday and it clears up before getting worse.

I actually have apple cider vinegar. I will try that too. I'm desperate! Taking care of a rambunctious 2 year old while sick is definitely not my favorite.

It's a very acquired taste.....a lot of people can't stand it, but I actually crave it sometimes lol.

  • The apple cider vinegar is great and I also use the OnGuard essential oil by doterra almost everyday during the winter since I have a horrible immune system and it has always worked like a charm! I got sooo sick with my first pregnancy and I am not letting it happen again!
