Had baby December 5th FTM question

Hi all,

I have two questions.

1. How long did it take for you to be able to stand without feeling like the front of your vaginal was numb and heavy? I can't poop because I'm too busy holding the front of my vagina thinking it will fall off from all the pressure.

2. FTM. It's been a little gloomy, i feel like I'm no help with baby, when will I start to feel regular. I love my baby but right now I've been in much pain that it's hard to encourage myself. I'm usually a go getter and fighter for mines but since baby feel like I'm struggling to find the motivation.

Please help

What was your birth like? Normal vaginal birth? Tearing?

    Call your OB

  • I recommend contacting your OB. They may want you to go in if this has been going on for so long.

  • Not sure about #1, but the second point sounds like it could be postpartum depression. There's a thread about it that you may find helpful? Definitely not something to mess around with!
  • Normal vaginal delivery except had a spinal headache for days had to go to the ER 3 times, they gave me morphine!!! Because the blood patch didn't take. Apparently with the spinal headache it has to go through your system and I had to lay flat on my back for days to calm the headache.

Spinal headache: results from a epidural gone wrong with a certain size needle. I'm small so it took a toll on me. And messed up any breastfeeding I would of had

Normal vaginal. And epistoonomy because his head was too big. I just feel pressure and the doctor wanted to prescribe pain meds but I'm over all the pain meds because of the spinal headache I had and had to go to the ER 3 times and they gave morphine which stopped me up. Took miralax but all the pain meds took 4 days just to subside. I'm over pain killers even a basic tylenol.
  • My LO was born on the 7th and I definitely still feel the pressure that you described, especially when I have to poop. I was taking Percocet but am trying to gradually wean off of it, so the pressure feels more intense now.

Your second point does make me think of post-partum depression, but I am by no means a medical professional. Please call your doctor - no need to feel miserable all the time if there is something they can do to make you feel better.
  • I don't remember how long it took my to poo after but it really took a while and once I did it was extremely painful. (I had anal fissures so it felt like I was pooping glass every time I went.) Anyway, I had a lot of vaginal pain and I only had one stitch. I used ice packs and I noticed that using soap (when showering) irritated me more so each time I went to the bathroom I used a squirt bottle to rinse myself off. I used stool softeners but I would recommend trying to go often because the longer you wait the more difficult it'll be.

Also are you getting enough sleep? (With a newborn, I'm sure the answer is no.) I had a lot of trouble getting my first to lay down to sleep that I ended up never sleeping and felt similar to how you described. But really, I'm not a doctor and it would be best to call your provider. Feeling depressed/unmotivated/indifferent about mothering is nothing to be ashamed of. Getting yourself some help is extremely brave and will only end up helping you and that sweet little baby!

  • I had a c section and it took me two weeks before I could get around without feeling pain - especially standing up and sitting down. During that time I felt a bit off. I was frustrated that I couldn't get around the house like normal and I felt guilty that I wasn't able to keep up with my toddler and play with him like I normally did. Once I was two weeks post delivery I physically felt better and back to my normal self and then felt better in general about everything as well. As PP said though, please call your doctor if you are concerned it could be more.
  • I agree with a lot of these ladies that it sounds like you could have PPD. I'll bump the discussion on my PPD so you can read my experience.
