Can we talk BOY names?

edited December 2015 in Baby Names
We are having a hard time. We don't like anything. Modern/trendy names are not our style and all of the traditional classic boy names either bore us to tears or we know too many people with the name (Christopher, Jonathan, Benjamin, Nicholas, Zachary, Matthew, Michael, Thomas, etc., etc., etc.).

Is there a middle ground? Something spunky, fresh, fun, but still a tried and true name? HELP.

We KIND of like Calvin, Arthur, and Gideon but we don't love any of those. :( Arden was DH's Grandfather's name but that one has gone to the girls I'm afraid. We like Alden but we don't like the NN "Al". Middle name will be Tyler after DH. DD is Susannah.

  • I wanted to use Arthur for our baby boy to honor my grandpa but I just couldn't picture a baby Arthur and didn't like the NN Art. We ended up choosing Philip. I also really like Calvin. It gets a lot of love on this board though which makes me wonder if it will be increasing in popularity.

I thought it was All-den. I think that avoids al. You could also do walden nn Alden
  • Feliz and Simon we're my first thoughts!

    Warren
    Ivan
    Gregory
Wesley (this might be getting too trendy?)
  • I knew an Alden and he never went by a NN.  I don't actually think it's a name that is super nickname friendly, but you can never predict these things.
  • Love Arthur and Alden. I don't think Alden lends itself to Al. I also like several of the suggestions.

    Jonas
    Orson
    Harvey
    Leon
    Byron
    Miles
    Julian
    Sebastian

  • Miles is my favorite classic yet underused and not boring name. I also like Grant, Reid, Wesley, Isaac, Isaiah, Archer, Eli, Ian, Dane, Silas and Micah, however I think Grant and Reid are going to get more popular soon. That's just my inkling based on conversations I've had and forums I've seen.

    I like Calvin.

I also thought others had good suggestions that went nicely with Tyler, like Warren and Jude. And I have always like Miles, but my husband doesn't. I also loved @2-Step 's suggestion of Grant!

  • Thank you all! I actually like Alden even more now that I know it is pronounced All-den not Al-den. I also like the suggestions of Warren and Silas!
