12 week ultrasound

So I went to my 12 week ultrasound and at the end, I causally asked if she had any guesses on sex. The ultrasound tech said she is pretty sure it's a girl but she said she has been wrong; however she would be surprised if she was wrong with this one. She wrote girl on one of my ultrasound pics with a question mark. I was shocked to hear a guess bc with my previous two pregnancies at 12 week ultrasounds they never guessed but I can't remember if I asked. Anyone else ask? I am interested to find out now in 8 weeks! We have a boy and a girl already but now I am so curious

Re: 12 week ultrasound

  • She did the same to me and said I was having a girl. How accurate is it ?

  • I'm 14 weeks and my tech gave me her "I'm 80% sure" guess today. 12 weeks seems a little early, but I'm a FTM so I really don't know. But I would be interested in knowing what she was basing the guess on!
  • We've been bugging my Dr for the last month! Lol. He's looked twice but of course the little turd always has its foot over the goods!

  • I've never asked at 12 weeks, I know too many people who have been told the wrong thing early on and

  • 13+1, asked my tech if she had any guesses and she said Nope!
  • We decided to ask this time. She first provided the disclaimer that she would only say 60% sure if she checked. However, she seemed to get a great shot and confidently told us it looks like a girl. DH and I expected a boy, so we were shocked, but it was a good shock because we needed to hear that it could be a girl. Now, I really want a girl and am nervous I'll be disappointed if I find out it's a boy in about 7 weeks!

  • We will all have to update at 20 weeks!

  • I haven't asked but somehow i just keep referring to it as a He.
We jsut did the NIPT blood test so may in a week anyway ( thought i sort of wanted the "magic" of seeing it on the screen.  Not that i could see anything.

  • I went for a 14 week US to the exact date and the tech said she was 101% sure. She wrote "It's a girl!" All over our pictures. :) I'm not a professional US tech (but am an RN) but from the shots I saw .. I'd definitely agree with her on girl. I would, however, probably think 12 weeks is too early to tell. I second the everyone updating at 20 weeks!

  • We had an ultrasound at 13+3 and she said she couldn't tell yet. Of course little stinker also wouldn't stay still!!!

I had a tech just tell me (without me really wanting to know,) at 12 weeks. She said boy, and that she was 95% sure. I'll get confirmation in January.
  • I didn't even know it was POSSIBLE to know so early from an ultrasound.  I just had a detailed ultrasound at 14weeks and they didnt mention anything at all.  and i think i referred to the baby as a he (mostly because i just hate calling it an "it") and they didn't correct me.  Does that mean they think its a boy too?!  !!!!!!
  • I think they always refer to baby as he forsome reason early on. My techs always say he and I once asked and she said oh I haven't even looked I just say he.

  • Picture number 1 is my DS at 12w 4d. Plain as day! I was shocked how clear it was. We went last week when I was 13w and they said girl this time! I was shocked, but tickled to death!

No, I don't think the tech meant anything by saying "he". Mine told me (12 week ultrasound) that she thought boy, and said she saw a penis sticking up. I was annoyed she told me this, and asked how sure she was. She said 95%.

  • I went in for a 14 1/2 week gender ultrasound and they told me girl and wrote it's a girl! All over the pictures. She gave me this one below and explained that the line between the babies bottom and umbilical cord means girl. 12 weeks seems pretty early to be able to tell

  • 162 heart beat.. girll or boy?

Heart rate has nothing to do with sex, studies have been done and there is no actual correlation.

As to the initial post question the tech today (12+4) took a look and said they couldn't tell, it was just too early. Hopefully the baby will cooperate at the anatomy scan and we can get a good look.
  • Just had my 12wk ultrasound. The tech pointed out two lines saying they were the sex organs, but at this point all babies look the same, like girls, because they aren't fully developed yet.
