^^maybe that is just for dogs? My dog was on sweet potato and fish food for years . . . Until he developed a sweet potato allergy to go along with all his other allergies!
Thanks @ChardeeMacDennis That makes me feel much better! Yeah for 6.5 month olds!
@henrytviii I nurse morning and evening now, only 2x during the work week. My supply has dropped tremendously when I pump at work, yesterday only getting 4 oz. Yet, she eats fine from me and seems to get enough during those times and on the weekends (no bottles on weekends). However, once I run out of my stash I will have to wean her off. Not sure want to tell you, but once I hit the 5 1/2 month mark it seems as if my body said nope you're done! Makes me sad.
Hey ladies sorry I've been MIA. I was having a bit of a breakdown yesterday, to be completely honest. I'm better (although not great) now.
Our doc had us get LOs stool tested again for milk protein allergy because we think that's the issue, not the sweet potatoes. She got really sick again on Sunday night, throw up everywhere. But yet again the test was negative, so it doesn't make sense. Doc still suspects an allergy though.
We went back to 100% Alimentum on Monday and she seems happier and no violent spit ups.
My coworker's baby had the allergy and their doc didn't have them start weaning off special formula until 1 year. So I think we will go back to the old routine for a few more months and instead focus our efforts on starting solids.
DH is worried we should be doing solids more regularly but I panicked because I work during the day and don't trust others to handle it. DH pointed out that we need to trust daycare to do it or else it won't ever happen. I had a total anxiety attack and started crying. I love working but this is when I wish I was a SAHM. I already feel like I don't have enough time in the day to be the best mom possible.
Ugh sorry for the woe is me stuff. I appreciate all the thoughtful advice and I hope I am out of my funk soon! LO is so happy and wonderful, I need to chill out a bit more.

Maybe so. Of course that's where I got that viewpoint, haha!
LO ate a ton yesterday. Two tablespoons of oatmeal cereal with 2 ounces of peaches for breakfast. Then 2 ounces of butternut squash and 1 ounce of sweet potatoes while we ate dinner. That's a lot for her. I've never fed her at dinner before but she was staring longingly at our food so I pulled out a few frozen cubes for her. I also wondered if it would help her STTN.... for those wondering, it most certainly did not.
@hoodoll82 That sucks. Not helpful probably, but my own dairy intolerant baby is almost 3 and still has problems, I think.
For solids, what if you introduced new foods on weekends only then had daycare repeat them throughout the week? If you started on Friday night or Saturday morning you'd have a couple of days to catch any reactions.
@hoodoll82 im sorry to hear LO isn't doing any better (and that you have to go back to the special formula ) Be easy on yourself though. It's tough figuring these things out. I've had many breakdowns about working and not being home with the baby. It's normal to feel like there's not enough hours in the day (there seriously aren't). Keep your head up.

This is exactly what we do. Start a new food over the weekend and then have daycare continue the feeding through the week.
Also no rush to start new foods. 1 a week is plenty.
@mellymar I put the shock collar on LO and he was still up to nurse 5 times last night. Wtf? Down baby! DOWN!
No worries. I love your crossover advice, keep it coming because I have constant baby AND dog parenting questions. BTW, the dog is loving our start of solids, he had avocado, sweet potato and apple for breakfast. Yum! And no rash yet.
You ladies are wonderful and make me feel so much better about everything! Such good advice.
Another vote of confidence. You're a great mom, and you and your man are a great team. You're getting it sorted.
I forget if it's an option for you, but is there a chance you can ask to work from home a day or so a week, or adjust work schedule for a couple weeks (leave a little earlier a couple days a week in exchange for longer hours other days, or something)? I know it's not always possible or wanted. But if it's a short-term thing to get her on the solids track and get her tummy back on track... That flexibility is often an advantage on working non-profit.
Anyway, just a big internet hug for you. I'm sorry your poor little love is having a hard time with food, and it's causing stress. Xo
@hoodoll82 you've gotten lots of great advice, and you're doing great.
If it were me, I'd give the alimentum only for a week or so. Get things back to square one with formula only. Once you've gotten that figured out for sure, then start solids again slowly, one a week, starting on Saturday or Sunday. (Just like others suggested).
I'm so mad at DH. At dinner, I got up to get LO'S bottle because she wasn't eating the cereal. While I was out of the room, he gave her a tortilla chip. WTF. She starts screaming, then screamed some more as I tried to fish the pieces out of her mouth. What in the hell, man? What was going through your brain that a tortilla chip seemed like a good idea?
Oh hell no @Sammy K ! Ever since we started on solids and DH is eating, he swears baby wants HIS food. I told him it's all in his head and LO must only eat what I make for him! I get so nervous he might pull something like your DH when he is left alone with baby!

Last night DH handed LO one of his Trader Joes's plantain chips (which are delicious btw) just to see what she'd do. She grabbed it and put it directly in her mouth, just like everything else. They're thick though so it stayed in one piece. She basically licked off the salt and laughed at him and then he took it away.
Maybe we should hold off on chips until she has some teeth for God's sake. She did like her avocado again last night though.

What the? Chocking hazard, much? AND... After all the food issues you guys have had with her and nursing! What if she had issues from the little bit of tortilla?

Ugh, dude! Tortilla chips are sharp and too salty for a baby! I swear, sometimes these dads just don't think. My DH has tried to give our LO pizza sauce at 3 months and dark chocolate. Dads, man.
Yes! Thank you! He thought I was overreacting. Besides the lack of nutritional content or risk of her reacting poorly, there's a choking risk! This girl doesn't like cereal! Men. Smh.
Almost two weeks into "solids" and tonight was the first night LO was able to actually swallow everything! It was his first mashed banana, so maybe he just liked it better than the other stuff.
Every other time, the food has come pouring back out of his mouth, and he's made bad faces even though he has always wanted more.
Well my DH is winning in the bonehead department. Last night while I fed the dog, he gave LO a piece of soft pizza crust. At least he made sure there was no cheese, meat, or sauce on it and it was a big enough piece she could hold and gum but too big to choke on. I'm embarassed to say she loved it. She hasn't had any veggies but she gummed the shit out of pizza crust.
^^ I'm going to throw your DH a bone and say that's a good food experience. It's not like she's "eating" pizza. I'm not sure I get the whole have to have veggies first so they don't get used to sweetness, isn't breastmilk super sweet?? AND everyone else got to enjoy some pizza while she was occupied. Win? Win?
@Sammy K always have your back when you need it but since we all already slammed your DH on the tortilla chip . . . . He's making upward progress!
I laughed my ass of listening to my DH explain to our 3 year old that he couldn't have a hotdog for breakfast, while I was sneaking brownies this morning. Oops!

I let my LO gum French bread at panera yesterday. Kept him occupied for a good 15 minutes! We did take off the sharp crust. Today we tried avocado for the first time using the baby led method. He got it straight to his mouth but wasn't too fond of it. He thought it was way more fun to smear it around the high chair.
We tried our second purée today - pears - and LO loves it! Smiles and leaning forward for the spoon. Much different than our sweet potato experience, and no throwing it all up later! Win!
Homemade baby food for the win yesterday! Tried multiple times with jar food and he just gagged and gagged. We tricked him into the sweet potatoes by doing a few bites of pears and then alternated! So.so. Happy!!! I just blended canned pears up..... Nothing fancy on those.
Surprisingly, lo's favorite food so far has been acorn squash! She wasn't a fan of mashed bananas and decided to empty the contents of her stomach (banana & oatmeal) all over me. I was so excited for her to try her first fruits and it was a bust.
Still haven't moved on past rice and sweet potatoes both of which she loves. Avocado is just so hard to keep fresh for continued exposure only when she's eating a bit. Maybe we will try squash tomorrow.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@dancegurl1118 That's how I improve my diet. You have to eat the extra veggies before they go bad.
@klkonwi Mum Mums are going in LOs stocking. I'm sure they will be hit based on what happened to the sugar cookie given to him at a party last night. Oops.
We've tried baby oatmeal, squash, green beans & now peas. She actually liked the peas which was surprising. Cute to watch her actually eat instead of just spit the food back out of her mouth.

They dissolve as baby chews and are great for food & bonus teething pain.
