Still bleeding- doctor suggested progesterone

Has anyone taken this? I'm still having pretty heavy bleeding 7 weeks post partum. I've never even taken the pill so I don't know how I'll react. Did it get you back to a regular cycle? I was like clockwork before the baby and want to TTC again in probably 18 months.

Re: Still bleeding- doctor suggested progesterone

  • I am also 7 weeks post partum (8 on Thursday)and still bleeding. I was kind of concerned because after delivery I had pretty bad bleeding (Dr said later I lost just under the amount of blood they would consider a hemorrhage). However at my 6 week appointment she didn't seem concerned at all, even said I was healing nicely. I finally noticed yesterday that the bleeding seems to be finally subsiding. I don't have any experience with progesterone just wanted you to know that your not alone in the lengthy PP bleeding!

  • I too have been bleeding for 2 months. At my 6 week check my dr said it was still normal and that my uterus was still swollen. She didn't release me back to work and had me schedule a recheck after the holidays. I go back January 7 and if I am still bleeding or my uterus is still swollen then she will have me start progesterone. I Took progesterone in the past as part of my fertility treatments so I don't think it will cause problems with you TTC in the future. It was used to help regulate my cycle.
  • My 6 week check is Friday and I'm still bleeding and nervous I won't be released for sex and exercise. (I REALLY want to go back to the gym and our anniversary is in a week so I'd really like to be released for extracurriculars ;) ). So if I am barely bleeding will I not be released?

  • @crbpjb I can't say for certain obviously but I think you'll be okay as long as the doctor feels your stitches, uterus, etc. are all healing okay. When I had my 6week check the doctor said even though I was still bleeding I was good to go because all my stitches healed up and my uterus felt good.

@crbpjb I was not given the go ahead because my uterus is still very swollen. As long as everything looks/feels good I don't think bleeding alone is going to keep you from getting an OK for normal activities.

Edited due to a premature post... App fail!
  • Thank you! That's reassuring. Things appear to be healing well, I'm just having spotting.
