Revealing the sex to family and friends?

Hi there... Just curious if anyone else is doing anything cute or different for revealing the gender to family and friends?

Hubby found these great scratch off cards on etsy! So we ordered them to send to our family and a few friends! We are including a cute note about our pregnancy (we haven't told everyone about the pregnancy yet), and there will also be a shiny new penny for the scratch off portion... Which will reveal BOY!

Re: Revealing the sex to family and friends?

  • That's such a cute idea!!! Props to your hubby for finding something on Etsy!

Last time we found out at the sonogram what we were having, then went and got the typical balloons in a box and had a small reveal party with family and friends. This time we decided not to find out at the sonogram, and have it sealed in an envelope ready to open at my parents house on Christmas morning!

  • @finnybooboo I love that! did you have to look away during your ultrasound to not see it??? For us... It was right there! My husband even asked, is that a boy I'm looking at?! Lol there was no guessing for us! We both saw it clear as day!
  • That's a really cute idea. I wish we would have done something like that. We were just too excited when we found out and just called all of our family. Thinking we will do something more creative next time around!
  • My husband asked me what we were doing, and I replied, "Posting 'It's a Boy/Girl!' on Facebook?" lol.  And then, of course, he said "But shouldn't we do something cute?" and I have now been stressing over coming up with a good idea.  I do NOT want to do one of those gender reveal parties (a little overboard for us), but it's hard to find a good idea about just an announcement without a party.  I'm super excited to find out the sex in January.  Hate to wait so long, but our doctor's schedule around Xmas sucks. :(
  • @Sharra13 check out etsy for reveal ideas! We also liked this pic (or doing one like it) and mailing It to our family and friends!
  • We're doing a party, but our reveal could also be done with pictures or a video. We're doing a volcano. Vinegar with appropriately colored food coloring in it and you drop baking soda into it :) it bubbles up either blue or pink! My boys are going to love it! I found the idea on pinterest :)

I think I'm going to do a colored volcano though...but I haven't decided yet lol

That's all I did with DD! lol. I really don't feel the need to be cute about everything so probably will do the same with this kid. Cute takes too much energy. :)

  • We are going to have the baby give our mom's a Christmas present that will have boy stuff in it! And for work I bought a maternity shirt with a gingerbread person and I'm going to sew on a bow tie....maybe make some cake balls since I'll be bringing in all my Xmas goodies.

I have gift wrapped small blue booties and mittens. There is a box for each side of the family. It's got its a boy stickers on the inside just in case the blue items aren't enough of a clue. Unfortunately I will only be there in person for his side :(

Oh and there is a really cute card to go with it.
  • This might belong in the UO thread, but I'm really not a fan of the gender color associations of boy/blue, girl/pink. Also not a fan of giving much significance to the gender at all for that matter, but I like to see gender reveals that just state "boy" or "girl" without already assigning the baby specific colors - so the scratch-it thing OP mentioned sounds pretty cool.

I'm also bad at announcing news in general, and by the time I find out the gender I know I'm going to be way too sick of announcing stuff, so it will be like just telling whoever asks me.
  • Not planning on doing anything cute (per my UO's about "gender reveal" parties and clever birth announcements) but...

My friend did something really cute: she and her husband posted a picture of a Car game piece from the Game of Life with a little pink playing piece ready to pop into the backseat.

  • We bought Christmas ornaments that say "It's a girl!" That we will give my family on Christmas. Our Facebook announcement will probably just be pictures of that.
  • We are giving our parents Christmas ornaments with colored glitter in them that say "It's a Boy/Girl!" We have to travel for Christmas so the balloons in a box idea was out.
  • I actually have no idea because my sister is planning the whole thing! I didn't want to find out before MH so I had the tech write it in a envelope and gave it to my sister. She has hinted that she can't wait for us to open our Christmas gifts so I think it has something to do with Christmas brunch at my mom's house. I have to say, she has kept this secret much better than I thought she would! I see her every Sunday (we both teach Sunday school at our church...she does the Bible lesson and I do the music lesson) and she is our go-to babysitter for our son. I have seen her no less than 15 times since she got the envelope and talked to her on the phone/text practically every other day and she hasn't slipped once! She has known since 11/30! I am going to make sure I look photo ready for Christmas brunch because I think we will post the picture of us finding out on FB/email and maybe even a birth announcement.

  • We are going to photoshop a bow or a ball cap onto an ultrasound picture and put the ultrasound picture into a frame and give it to our parents to open as part of their presents. That's all if we get a good profile picture and baby cooperates this Thursday.

We got a card for the tech to fill out for us on what the sex is,and we will open it on NYE. I plan on posting a pic of that on FB with a message that Baby boy/girl wishes everyone a happy 2016 and they cant wait to meet everyone in May.

For parents, a call will suffice.

For work, I will bring in cupcakes that are either blue or pink. Our office is closed until 1/4, so I thought it would be fun to kick off the new year at the office with cupcakes!

  • We're finding out on NYE (hopefully) so I'll try to come up with something vaguely New Year's themed by then. This thread has been great for ideas!

It's really not a big deal to me either way (although I am not-so-secretly hoping for a girl, I won't be heartbroken to be wrong), but it is a big deal to ALL the future grandparents, so for their sake I'll try to make it something pretty good since I know they're all on pins and needles and I don't want to steal their joy.
  • I am cracking up about how many announcements involve Facebook! my husband and I don't even have Facebook! Lol we were on it for years and gave it up about 3 or 4 years ago now and never looked back! Best decision we ever made!

But seriously... I am loving all of the sex reveal ideas!
  • Our ultrasound is the day after Christmas. We're going to have the tec write what we're having on a card, then we're going to the store and picking out both a boy and a girl outfit. When we go to the check out we're going to tell the cashier we only want one of the outfits depending on what's in the card (and to put it in a box we brought so we don't see it).

Then we'll go to my parents house, skype in his folks, open the box and all find out together. :)

I recently was on the fence about finding out at the ultrasound but H loves the idea of everyone getting to show that moment together.
  • @babykasper same here on no facebook! I love actually catching up with friends and learning stuff in person now- I felt like before I always saw it there first!
  • We (if baby cooperates) find out gender on NYE too. We'll announce on fb then since we haven't at all yet.

I saw on Pinterest a u/s pic with a photoshopped NYE party hat on the baby. Might do that, might skip it because I always found it awkward when people posted ultrasound pics on social media before i got pregnant! Still debating.
  • We had a small reveal at a restaurant with close family and friends only. We had a gender reveal cake.

  • Update: one of our grandpas got his scratch off card today and called to congratulate us!!! I am loving this!!! So excited we sent out the cards...

And I love everyone else's ideas too! Makes me wish our family actually lived in the state we live in... But we made due!
