@thaisac1@mrstrax even whenever I was in grad school and we had to complete a study from proposal to dissemination, it was a royal PITA, and it was on a relatively small scale. If there are things relative to me that I can participate in, I try to help out too.
1) OB confirmed today that he would use the glucose test from the research study I'm a participant in as his test. Yay for only doing that once - and for free!
2) My bump is officially too big to fit under the water in the bath now. Poor cold belly button.
Kudos for participating in research!!!
Haha - the PhD candidate running the study asked me why I wanted to participate and then laughed pretty hard when my reasoning was "I know how hard it is to get research participants". My undergrad is in Kinesiology (pre-PA) and so many of my professors were doing research on very specific groups (double ACL tears, >10 mile per day runners, pregnant women, state troopers, etc). Gave me a lot of perspective into the difficulty of even *doing* a study, much less getting useful data, getting it reviewed and eventually published.
Right! It gives you a new perspective…. Knowledge doesn't create itself! It's hard work!
I'm sure this is more suitable for the WTF Wednesday thread but I need to share it here before I forget. So as I mentioned previously my MIL is a very 'special' woman and I usually get along with her except she has not been interested in the pregnancy the slightest (it's her first grandchild and when DH and I got married she wouldn't talk about anything else) and she was almost insinuating that there was something fishy about this pregnancy (like I said, special woman). So she calls me out of the blue yesterday and wants to talk about the pregnancy and give me advices and tips. Basically what I learned from her is this:
- Be careful during sex that DH doesn't poke the baby (please, I do not want to talk about our sex life and I can't take anything you say now seriously)
- Do not show anyone the baby clothes we've bought before the baby wears them, so people don't give him the 'evil eye'
- Remember to massage my nipples during showers to prepare them for breastfeeding by squeezing them with my fingers under the water and preferably have DH help me with it (WTAF)
- Avoid too hot showers or I might go into labor
- Eat anything I crave or baby will have a birthmark in the face
- Have lots of sex in the 9th month of pregnancy (again, stay out of my sex life!)
- Eat lots of artichokes and spinach because she says so.
I was giving DH a death stare while politely agreeing and telling her okay knowing she won't be here so I don't have to bother with discussing this stuff.
@elasticheart13 Epic advice... I suggest you follow it to a T ... oh but she forgot a tidbit that my coworker told me last week. Don't wear high heels or your baby will come out cross eyed.

...SMH...
DH is so used to his mom being like this that he's not even surprised any more. He was surprised it took her this long to start spewing her wisdom. I fear how she will advice us on raising our son. DH grew up in a strict "we use the fish fork for the fish only" kinda home while I eat with my hands sometimes. This will be interesting.

I am sorry about your struggles but I am actually laughing loudly about this! It is kinda cute though, those old wive's tales about do's and don't's of pregnancy!
@thaisac1 I was doing my best at keeping a straight face while talking to her. She is so damn awkward "is he pleasuring you enough? Please make lots of love but don't poke the baby. Is he good in bed?" And I'm like WTAF is wrong with you!?

@elasticheart13 I'm seriously fighting to keep my composure. I thought the weekly texts reminding me to drink milk (I don't, because it upsets my stomach) were annoying...now I'm just thankful I've never heard MIL use the words "nipples" or "pleasuring." At least she lives on another continent
@elasticheart13 I'm dying laughing right now! Sorry it's awkward, but thank you for making me appreciate not having a relationship with my FMIL! She doesn't really like me, I don't really like her either. We're civil at holidays, and by civil, I mean she acts like she cares about me for appearance's sake in front of my fiancé, but completely ignores me the rest of the time. Ironically I got the drink milk everyday advice from her too, and she knows I don't drink cow's milk. Ever.
I have read that nipple stimulation does actually help with breast feeding later as it helps your milk come in, but I'm pretty sure that was anecdotal advice on a BF forum. Funnily enough the French apparently feel very strongly about having a lot of sex during pregnancy, and an orgasm is "good for the baby" as it feel like "the massage of a jacuzzi." (I mortified my fiancé by sharing that with him, and then stating I'm merely pampering our son.)
@Knottie9983816 haha well I am glad to provide some laughter for you ladies, I was laughing myself at how absurd the whole thing was. I got the same "drink milk everyday" advice too even though I'm a little lactose intolerant. I speak to her every few months and every time it is an epic conversation that leaves me very confused. Last one we had after our wedding night included something with my zodiac (I'm a Leo) and that Leo's love sex and she told me to make sure he ate lots of seafood as it was an aphrodisiac to make sure he was pleasuring me enough. She's a highly peculiar lady.
@AmadorRose I cringe everytime she uses such words. My own mother knows me well enough to never ask me about my sex life lol.
@elasticheart13 I'm a Leo as well. I do have an issue when it comes to sex, but I'm not sure I attribute that to my birth month It does sound like she cares about your well being though! Just mostly in the bedroom /shudder
So... I have been mia for a long time, and didn't post A ton early on anyways, but I just couldn't pass this up.
Was reading a sweet story about identical triplets when I get to the names.... And then I get to "sharlet"?!? Seriously? I know this is someone's real child and bless them and there very special triple-ness, but sharlet???
jusy didn't know where else to go with this, do I'm leaving it here.
@ashleymarie1027, I found the holy grail of terrible baby names last night, on the Tula Love group on facebook. Just a few highlights (these are all for girls): Emaree, Clarke, Rhylen, Brynlee, Stormee, Wrenna, Clover, Alaycia, Hadtie, Alyvia, Kambria...dear lord.
My mom is driving me crazy. This entire pregnancy, she has said some pretty horrible things to me. Such as "you should go hungry so the baby will burn off some of your fat" and even if I haven't eaten much all day, if she sees me try to eat some 'big' she'll say "you shouldn't eat all of that". Then she'll want to do something fun with me or something, so one time she suggested we go to the Jacuzzi at the rec center. I had to explain to her three times why I couldn't, and then even after that she still asked my doctor why I couldn't go in the Jacuzzi. She makes me so mad, and I'm already ridiculously hormonal all the time. UGH. So ready to move in a couple months, can't wait for the confirmation date.
@rebelone, that's a heartbreaking and sweet story.
@ashleymarie1027 that's a horrible name... And neither of the other babies' names are spelled properly either. Ugh. There is a set of spontaneous triplets in my neighborhood...but they aren't identical (all fraternal), and all have names that are spelled correctly.

All of those are awful, except for Clarke! Seriously. That has been a guilty pleasure girl name of mine for years, I don't know why. There was a girl on ANTM when I was in high school and that was her first name and I just loved it.
All I think of when I see "kambria " is "you misspelled the name of that counter top company."
And the last name of a character in the Keywork series by Claudio Sanchez. It's spelled Cambria, and it means whale in either Greek or Latin (I forget which) It was a top contender for me if we were having a girl. Named after the character in said series, not whales...

Stormee, on the other hand, is a dog name.
Clarke is definitely the least terrible in that list. But went along with the 8 Sawyers, James, etc...
Cambria, properly spelled, is pretty and unusual. Kambria sounds like another damn Kardashian.
There were seriously more side-eye speshul snowflayke names in that thread than there were normal names. It was crazy!
We may be canceling our Christmas trip to Iowa to see DH's family. DD1 might be getting sick (again) and we would rather not be away from her awesome doctor if she is. A big part of me hopes we don't go purely because sitting in a car for 14 hours with a teething DD1 and two dogs to spend a week in a house with 5 people and one bathroom sounds awful to pregnant me. It's only barely tolerable when I'm not pregnant.

Silver lining if you do come- our forecast is in the high 40s all next week (30s the rest of this week) so it at least won't be frigid cold. I hope YD feels better soon!

Poor baby getting sick and teething! Staying at your families house sounds like an outer level of Hell

Because there's only one bathroom for 5 people? Haha

Yes. I was also factoring in a 14 hour car ride too though...

Equally awful things in my book. Doesn't help that I don't really get along with my ILs either

That would be the worst part for me. I grew up sharing one bathroom with 7 other people, 5 of whom (plus me!) are female.
@NachosAndPeaches I'm a grown woman and have no actual clue what a persimmon is.
Lol!!!! It's my favorite fall/winter fruit. I eat like 2-3 a day. Peaches in the summer, persimmons in winter. It looks like an orange tomato but it's sweet. Sort of mango ish, peach ish, but has its own flavor. You have to make sure it's ripe or it will dry your mouth out terribly though.
First BFP 12/2012, MMC at 9 weeks
Second BFP 6/2013, resulted in DS, born 2/23/14 :-)
Third BFP 5/2015, natural MC at 6 weeks
Fourth BFP 8/2015, hoping for sticky little brother or sister to H!
Proud SAHM to our little monkey H.
Pro Vax, extended breasftfeeder, ring sling and stroller loving mama. I don't judge you unless you don't vaccinate!
Looks like unless by some miracle DD1 is super healthy tomorrow, Iowa is canceled. I already took the time off so we'll get some work done on the nursery. I'll probably go in Monday though to make up time from leaving early for appointments/baby sickness and so I look like a good employee. Hooray for bathrooms and not sitting in a car all day, boo for DD1 being sick
Well , I had my high risk ob appointment today to evaluate my " non coiled umbilical cord" and it has some " false knots" apparently as well and I have a shoterned cervix further increasing my risk for pre-term labor. Today was informative and scary. I go back in 2 weeks for a fibronectin and another cervical measurement.

Trying to imagine it has me thinking all kind of strange things. I like oranges and peaches, but I don't like mangos or tomatoes. What is this magical mystery fruit and where do I find one in southern Indiana?
