Yes, everyone is ok! Adults infected with the virus typically have an asymptomatic or mild illness, but the issue is that of vertical transmission to the fetus. Because this virus has never been present in a country as populous as Brazil, this is the first time this complication is ever being reported, and very little is known about it so far….
@thaisac1, that sucks! I would be crushed to not be spending Christmas with my family. Actually, I'm spending boxing day with my in laws instead if Christmas Eve morning, and I'm pretty upset about it, so my heart goes out to you.
@AmadorRose I'm a little late to the holiday charity party, but wanted to add our traditions to the list. We generally have each kid pick an ornament off any giving trees we see- usually one at the church and one at the kids school is all we see, unfortunately. Anyway, idk if these are a thing elsewhere, but you pick an ornament, and it has a wishlist on it, written by a local person in need (each member of a family usually gets their own ornament). You buy the gifts and drop it off, labeled, at a central location for distribution. The other thing we do at the holidays is to buy items off the local shelter's most needed list, and take a trunk full of stuff to the shelter together. We usually do any if our charity shopping at the same time we take the kids gift shopping for each other- it's an effortless way to underscore that helping the less fortunate is more important than buying wants for each other, because they have a price limit when buying for each other, but charity shopping doesn't.
Anyone remember when velour track suits were all the rage? I found a pair of velour tights at target, and they are amazing. I can even draw fun patterns in them when I'm bored.

Oh hell yes... I'm going to target. I still think track suits are bitchin
@jonesl12 don't feel bad. Ours isn't started either. In fact, it was our office and still has some furniture in it. A nursery thread might motivate me to get going.
@thaisac1 I'd love to show y'all my packed-to-the-brim storage room which will hopefully magically transform itself to a baby-livable space in the next few months.
I would love a nursery thread even though right now it's an unpainted empty room, but we picked up the crib today! Maybe now DH will get his butt in gear since we've had the paint for over a month
That's so exciting that you got your crib @sprocketsngadgets! DH and I ordered ours yesterday. We weren't planning on buying it until after the new year but all cribs were 15% off..how could we not? Haha
I'm excited to see everyone's nurseries for some inspiration!
@thaisac1 I will be stalking and living vicariously through everyone who can have a nursery, as I'm in a rental and eagerly awaiting entry to a program...which I won't hear from until July...

Sorry, didn't understand what you meant… What program do you refer to?

We made our decisions on furniture today also! I will just wait for boxing day just in case there are sales (although not super optimistic), and then order right after Xmas.

---QBF--- I'm applying to go to PA school through the army, which would mean a lot of moving around in the next several years. I figure there's not much point in setting up a nursery if she'll still be sleeping in our room until we move for me to go to school...then move again for clinicals...and then again to actually work for four years. So, I'm going to live vicariously through everyone else's nurseries!

I get ya!
Good luck with your application! I know several PAs and they all seem very happy with their profession! They pay is great, too!
@thaisac1 (mobile quoting is too complicated, ha) it's less competitive through the army than it is civilian-side in the US and I'd get paid to get the degree. I love medicine but I know I'm not smart enough to be a doctor, and now that there's a LO in the picture I need to set some realistic goals. Here's to hoping!
I'm going to AW it up a little bit. DD and I do "homework" before bath time every night and today she was writing letters independently. I snapped a quick pic of her deep in concentration

@AmadorRose It's awesome you'd get paid to get the degree! Doesn't get better than that! I studied for free too, and being debt-free when we start our careers is a huge relief!
Please do not say you're not smart enough to be a doctor. If you don't believe, than no one else will! I obviously don't know you, but from what I have seen from your posts and thought process, there is no lack of smarts going on there!!!
The only thing I will warn you about, with regards to choosing the MD route vs. the PA route, is that the MD route will take a lot longer until you are actually in the workforce. Assuming you already have a 4-year college degree, it will take you 4 years of medschool; then 3 years of residency of your choice; then another 3-5 years of a fellowship of your choice if you decide to sub specialize (you do get paid as a resident and fellow, though; just not at 'real doctor' rates, as my husband likes to say ). In the PA route, you go to school and then you're ready for the workforce.
On the other hand, if being a doctor is really what you want, time is not an issue. You will be doing what you love, and you will have a higher salary ceiling in the end.
Many aspects to balance and decide!
EDIT to add one more aspect that I just thought of: If having as normal of a life as possible, with a somewhat predictable 8-5 job is important to you in light of LO's arrival, than the PA route would indeed be better. As an MD, nothing is predictable, 8-5 doesn't exist, your husband and daughter will sleep alone many nights…There is always a down side to everything, and I will admit that the downside of my job is that I will never be a 'normal' wife or mom. But, hey, I wouldn't have it any other way.
@thaisac1 I know myself well enough to know that I just couldn't focus on school for that long. This little girl in my belly, though, will be set up to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or something equally fabulous if she so chooses, which is a blessing my parents couldn't afford to give me and I didn't realize until a bit late in the game. I'll be happy helping people and providing for my family
I just went to set up my Christmas tree and apparently when my mom and sister took it all down last year they put all the ornaments in a separate box (which I've never done) as well as our star. We moved and left whatever box they were in there, and now we have no ornaments. We don't have our holiday birds, or my fiancé's first Christmas ornaments his mom gave us or anything. I'm so upset right now and can't stop crying.

We (and by we I mean my very generous parents) actually bought ours the day before thanksgiving because it was 45% off. The box is just sitting in the garage taunting me now
@AmadorRose She doesn't have them. We left them at our old house. She took down our tree while we were in PA February of last year because I'm notorious for leaving it up until like May every year. I don't know what to tell my fiancé's mom.

I'm so sorry, that sucks.
My fiancé insisted on me putting up the tree and the lights. I do actually have the star. I'll be getting ornaments tomorrow and finishing the tree tomorrow...
So clumsy little home-alone me stepped on a nail this morning and sliced my heel open. I cried for an hour and then finally called my doctor to schedule an early TDAP shot. So yay, just got back from that...
1) OB confirmed today that he would use the glucose test from the research study I'm a participant in as his test. Yay for only doing that once - and for free! 2) My bump is officially too big to fit under the water in the bath now. Poor cold belly button.

Kudos for participating in research!!!
Haha - the PhD candidate running the study asked me why I wanted to participate and then laughed pretty hard when my reasoning was "I know how hard it is to get research participants". My undergrad is in Kinesiology (pre-PA) and so many of my professors were doing research on very specific groups (double ACL tears, >10 mile per day runners, pregnant women, state troopers, etc). Gave me a lot of perspective into the difficulty of even *doing* a study, much less getting useful data, getting it reviewed and eventually published.
