My UO is that this warm midwest weather can suck it! It's the holiday season and it's supposed to be cold! Give me some snow!
Right there with you!
I'm in Ontario, Canada but I am going to jump in on this. I'd usually be enjoying the warmer weather...but I want snow for Christmas! I love this time of year but I'm struggling to get into the Christmas spirit without the snow.
...it can leave & be warm again by January, though.
I have one, but not sure it's unpopular...what's with all the random, "this happened and my doc said not to worry, but I'm worried anyway and please reassure me, Internet strangers"????
I was raised Catholic, Catholic educated, but no longer practicing, and my husband is culturally Jewish but barely religious. We do Christmas and Hanukkah in pretty secular ways, although I go pretty nuts with decorations. And even though Christmas isn't a religious holiday for us, I have a lot of nativity scenes around the house. Partly I just love the nativity story (angels! shepherds! magical star!), and partly I think it's important to recognize the story behind the holiday. I know Jesus probably wasn't really born in December and Christmas celebrations started being held in December because that's when the solstice is and when the Romans' winter celebrations were held. But the name of the holiday literally means "Mass of Christ," so even a secular celebration of that name at least nods to Christianity. If we're going to celebrate the holiday, I want my children to appreciate its roots and the story that inspired it, even though it's not a religion we practice.
Many of my relatives on my mom's side are vehemently anti-religion (for a variety of reasons, some I understand and some I don't), but they are all huge celebrators of secular Christmas. I've always thought it's a little funny that my cousins, who are super anti-Jesus, make such a huge deal about a holiday that's named after him.
That said, anyone who claims there's a "war on Christmas" because we as a country finally woke up and decided it was important to start recognizing that not everyone celebrates what Christians celebrate can STFU.

Yessss. By all means vent about your worries in an appropriate thread, but starting a new thread to ask for a second opinion to what your doctor has said is the worst.
Maybe this is more of a complaint than an UO but, why on earth would you want your information added to a spreadsheet in a group you don't participate in?? Once we get farther along I'm going to just delete people who aren't active because I can. Oh Squee you've posted once on our board and it was to tell us how excited you are to have a girl! Why the hell do I care? Oh wait I don't.
Slightly out of touch Canadian here. But since San Bernadino, what's the media focus on now? Terrorism and Stopping ISIS or managing gun control? Ive been tuned out lately. I can't even watch media coverage after mass shootings anymore bc the pro-gun argument drives me (and the majority of Canadians, according to polls) mental. Curious now that terrorism is cited as one of the explanations if that's shifted the talk?
My UO is definitely inspired by the home birth thread.... I cannot stand to listen to the "your body knows how to deliver a child, it's a natural process, blah blah blah". If you get to have a natural birth, that is awesome. Seriously I don't care what kind of meds and interventions you had/didn't have, I totally agree with your right to have your birth your way. BUT. Saying that your body knows what to do is just not. always. true. I feel like it's insulting to people who did have to have some kind of intervention. Maybe I'm just hormonal and crazy but I don't understand why just because you had a natural birth, you feel that you need to insist that everyone else at least try.
@mdargie- totally get where you're coming from. My body has no idea what to do with the whole labor process. My daughter was 10 days late, and I was induced. My placenta was breaking down and had she stayed in any longer, it would've been bad. With my son, I was in labor for 10 hours and when I got to the hospital, I was only dilated to a 3. I needed Pit again. Then, when I had my MC last year, my body never recognized it, so I had to do an oral round of Cytotec, which didn't work. Then a vaginal round. Once that was finally built up in my system, I ended up hemorrhaging, wound up in the ER and almost died before they could stabilize me enough for an emergent D&C. I'm REALLY hoping this labor is smooth and natural, but who the heck knows!
Very unpopular & mean, but I can't stand hearing women say how fab they feel during pregnancy, and that they've never had so much as a whiff of morning sickness, fatigue or discomfort. Are they lying????? Is it possible????? Pregnancy is just miserable to me! And labor - ugh. The women who give 3 pushes and the baby flies out - puhlease!!!! 28 hours of labor with my first, and then hemorrhaged. Pushed, without meds, for 45 minutes with my second & then a crash c/s b/c of his heart rate crapped out.I know, I know, it's exciting and all that, but really I just see it as the price of admission for the baby.
@fishwife799 that used to piss me off in our last BMB too and worse is people who NEVER posted showed up and added to the birth announcement thread so people started ignoring it because they were sick of seeing randomers babies. It was unfair on the regs who were due at the end of the month. So my UO is if I didn't share my pregnancy with you I don't want to really care about your special fly by announcement! Rant over! lol

Go for it! I've heard it's an issue on the other BMBs too, the what sex is your baby thread is packed with people who have never commented before and never comment again. It just doesn't make sense, if you're excited then call a friend or family member who actually knows you enough to care.

Terrorism/ISIS is talked about but seems more on a global scale. Muslims are getting more attention nationally. Gun control is talked about but no action taken. Although, it looks like Obama is working on an executive order regarding background checks. That will probably be big - not necessarily the actual content but him using an executive order and bypassing Congress. The elections are big news, especially Trump and his latest crazy talk.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
I don't have my own UO, just comments on those already brought up. My best friend in the whole world is Muslim, she has a masters degree in environmental science and Islamic studies, she teaches the Muslim equivalent to Sunday school. She, and her whole family, are wonderful people. She knows so much about her religion, and there is no more support for the actions of the few extremists than there is in the bible for violent actions against fellow man. There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, and the vast majority, and I mean 99.9%, are peaceful normal people, who just want to live their lives. They are as scared of ISIS as the rest of us. They are fleeing their countries to get away from them. Their children and families are being slaughtered. We do not need to fear Islamic people. We need to fear crazy people. And they can be anyone.

I completely get this! And I was just telling a coworker today how sad it would be if the two men that escaped our AFB are just trying to get away from their country. This is why they haven't released names or photos of the men (although they have been leaked locally), so that when they are due back in Afghanistan, nobody will know they were here training. I always like the give the benefit of the doubt and like to believe that ALL people have a heart and 99.9% of the world doesn't want to cut our heads off, but since so much has been happening lately, sometimes it's hard to trust anyone or anything. I completely agree that this is unfair to the majority of Muslims and it must be very hard for them right now. But I also see why Americans are terrified. We have some reason to be. This is why I could never be president.

YES!!!!!!!!! Well said. The only act of terrorism we have had in Canada was when a crazy man shot a soldier standing guard at our national war monument - in the city where I live. He wasn't Muslim - he was your average Caucasian French-Canadian - who just happened to be f'ing CRAZY. I'm more scared of Donald Trump than I am of anyone else, for the record.

Arggh. .....Yes. This drives me crazy. Your doctor has years of medical experience and yet women choose to completely ignore them. Worse, is women that are bad patients and hassle their doctors repeatedly for stuff they think they need. There are also women who ask for advice, the whole group tell them not to do something as its dangerous and they go ahead anyway.....seriously...don't waste our time!!

Yeah, Trump is a nutter! Banning a whole religion from a country. Imagine if we tried to ban all Christians from Europe because that crazy old man in the woods shot a load of people over the baby body parts issue!
RE saying Merry Christmas: I have zero issue with people wishing me a merry Christmas or Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwanza. They are wishing me well. More of this needs to exist in the world.
I am agnostic and we still celebrate Christmas. DD is only 3 but she is obsessed with the nativity my grandmother has. I have explained about the Christian beliefs that go along with it. Honestly we celebrate in more of the Yule or Solstice sense anyways. It's a time to celebrate and enjoy life before the long winter truly begins. So many Christmas traditions (time period, trees, decorations, lights) are pagan traditions originally anyways.

Ok so this is a little late since it's Friday. But re all the Christmas talk.
I am a Christian, but I do not celebrate Christmas as Christ's birthday. Christmas is a man made religious holiday. Jesus' actual date of birth is not talked about in the Bible so we don't celebrate on one particular day. We do celebrate Christmas but as a more family centered holiday.
