Normal fussiness or is something wrong?

Recently my baby has been crying a lot more than usual. Called the ped and as usual, made to feel like a lunatic.

So I figure I'd take an informal poll. Lo is 7 weeks old. For very short bursts he's ok, but then he will cry. He cries at the breast and breaks away. He cries if he falls asleep and you move him (he likes to be held). He gets totally spastic tho in his fits, flailing and tossing his head around.

Is anyone else experiencing this? What am I missing. The ped's office seems to think I'm making a big deal out of nothing. I am not so sure...worried that something is way off.

Should mention that lo is ebf, gaining weight and we got the thumbs up that he is doung well his 4 w app. Should also mention that I think he has gas and a little reflux but the ped thinks it's all a v mild case and totally normal. Any experience you guys share will be appreciated. So tough to see him upset :/

Re: Normal fussiness or is something wrong?

  • My LO gets super fussy and flails when he has gas. We have the equate brand has drops and they seem to help a lot. We use them mainly at night when it seems the worst. I find bouncing him gently on my knee (he has great head control and I help assist him) or laying him across my legs face down while patting his back help the most. If it continues maybe try video taping him and showing the doctor at his next appointment.

What a great idea! I will do that. I feel like she doesn't take me seriously but it's alarming to see. He's so upset.

I'll try the equate drops. We do myelicon. Doesn't help much. Sometimes if I bicycle his legs he calms for a little bit. So maybe it's just gas.

At this pt I've eliminated dairy soy gluten and beef. I don't know what else to
Eliminate to help his gas :/

Please don't eliminate foods unless your lo is allergic. Being exposed to foods while Being breast feed helps them not be allergic to foods later. It's also important for the chemistry of your bm. At least talk to your peditrician. I am on a total elimination diet because of my daughters allergic reactions and it makes me cry daily I know my milk suffers.

Mylicon is pretty much the same as the equate, I just have the generic version lol. If bicycling helps laying him across your legs may too. It puts pressure on the belly and helps out. I bounce my legs gently at the same time. That helps my LO and he seems to enjoy it when he's restless. My oldest loved it and used to fall asleep while I was doing it all the time
