Okay- so I'm very pro-breastfeeding, and I completely understand if someone is unable to do so. However, I don't understand the people who refuse to even TRY...they just don't WANT to. That I have never been able to understand.
You don't have to understand it. It honestly comes down to it being no one else's business as long as the baby is well taken care of. Everyone should focus on their own decisions and do what's best for them. This seems judgy to me. Just saying.
I'm not saying anything else about breast feeding or formula feeding after this - I just hope we can all respect each other's decisions without a huge debate.
Just going to say that people not understanding other people's choices is not passing judgement. I don't understand a lot of religions- I think mine is the best, I practice mine...yet I don't judge others based on what they believe.
I suppose this day and age everyone is judging everyone (or maybe that's how it's perceived), but I personally don't judge people based on choices. Hell, I carry my kid around on my hip all day long because I can't say no to him. My husband doesn't get it but he doesn't judge me for it. Same goes for me with everyone else.
@Aquinna82 that was very well put. I'm used to people that don't bf by choice getting flamed around here. And it's whatever, I'm a big girl I can take it. I actually enjoy these little debates, because now I at least understand a little more on why I get the side eye in restaurants when I get out the bottle. (Not that she was flaming for bottle feeding, I never felt attacked...just to be clear) I see that maybe it's because people have that in the back of their minds. Maybe I don't because of the alcohol or something similar. Nope that's not it at all. I don't because I don't want to.
I actually LOVE that video on fb! It shows so much that there's no way to make everyone happy. It's impossible. Just do what you feel is best for you and your family, and let the next mom do what she feels is best.
My UO is that I secretly love watching people fall. Obviously I don't like it when they get hurt, but just the act of falling cracks me up everytime. I guess I just laugh at really inappropriate times...
My UO is that I think dog breeding is archaic (and using test tube babies to do so is ridiculous). With so many dogs and puppies in need of rescue and adoption, not to mention the many genetic problems plaguing so many breeds because of inbreeding, I think the whole thing has become irresponsible.
Flame away!
No flaming here! I agree that the whole custom dog breeding thing is just dumb. Oh, so you want a special snowflake dog that is a "mix"...well guess what? Your local shelter is full of "mixes", only you would call them a "mutt".
I saw this on the news last night and they actually said something like "Now we are one step closer to completely eliminating certain genes and traits, not only in dogs, but in humans too!" I have soooo many issues with that line of eugenic thinking. On the one hand, it would be great if we could eliminate all genetic diseases. Wahoo! BUUUUTTT...I see this technology as a very slippery slope. I actually debated this in my medical ethics class in college and it got quite heated, but who is to say some boutique eugenic shops won't crop up and use the technology to select for certain heights, hair color, genetic predisposition to higher IQ, etc etc. Obviously, there are so many things that are nurture vs. nature, but genetics do play a part in making someone "superior" in societal and cultural views and if only the wealthy can access these specialized services, we would in essence create a biological class distinction that would further disadvantage those who don't have the financial means to access eugenic therapies or services. Not cool and very dystopic.

ME TOO!
ME THREEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I hate when people get all butthurt if you laugh when they fall... I honestly can't help it!
Also based on likes... I know I'm going to get flamed for this.... oh well
I don't mind our language becoming more considerate of others (or PC as some say). In general I think those who hate the "PC police" do so because they have the privilege of not experiencing daily micro-aggression.
As a minority woman in an interracial marriage I hate when people refer to previous generations as "the good ol days," "back when America was great," or similar phrases.... there's very little from America's past that I'd want to experience (hence my disdain for Trump).

This makes me feel bad... because I love a "designer dog". A friend of mine just got a English Bulldog Boston, and now we are looking into this "breed" based on what we hope to have in a dog. I mean, look how freaking cute!
And a goldendoddle? I cant take the cuteness!!
Can we forget UO Thursday and just do Super Adorable Dog Thursday??
@kami09 ok good. Glad we have that cleared up. I saw it got you heated and I didn't understand how my body image upset you until I reread it. It made sense in my head, but not as an explanation. It did sound like like I was saying BF is disgusting in general. Nope. It's awesome. It's just not for me lol
My UO is that I secretly love watching people fall. Obviously I don't like it when they get hurt, but just the act of falling cracks me up everytime. I guess I just laugh at really inappropriate times...
This is why I love America's Funniest Home videos. When they do the 25 hits in 25 seconds thing, omg, I cry laughing.

I can half agree with you. Specific breeds of dogs were developed to do very specific tasks (herd, protect livestock, hunting) and this is where I see breeding dogs as a good thing. It maintains these traits so that the dog is good at its job. Where I absolutely agree with you is with all the crazy poodle mixes and people creating "new breeds" to sell as companions. In the "doodle" craze there is too much emphasis on a non-shedding coat type and not necessarily health and inherent instincts OR informing new owners that their golden doodle is a mix of two sporting breeds and is likely to be high energy and require extensive grooming. I think adopting pets is absolutely fantastic for companionship but there is still a need for purebred dogs.
As to the article I think the point is that accomplishing IVF in beagles is a great first step toward maintaining/helping wild animal populations and is an advancement in science that is applicable to other fields... not just making more pet puppies.

I support this stance 100% in terms of micro-aggressions. I cringe when I hear those things and have seen/heard so many awful things said to students (of racial minority) that an adult thought was no big deal, because, on the surface it "seemed like a compliment." As a separate issue regarding being considerate of others, I am getting a little impatient at coddling people who come into the Bump as special snowflakes and want us to correct their doctor or identify the sex of their child with science we don't specialize in. I'm glad to see a little snark and GIFs popping up in those posts once the OP is redirected or corrected.
@yogahh super adorable dog Thursday...that makes me giggle lol I love me some puppies too bad DH won't let me have one
Mine won't let me either. He says we aren't home often enough for a dog. Which is true. But we are hoping to move about 2 hours south at some point in the next year. Which means, even though we will still be traveling, we won't have as many overnights. Which I hope means...I can have a dog!!

@Charla1224 when I think of it as becoming "PC", I'm thinking more on the lines of not being able to have an opinion because yours is different from someone elses. And if you voice that, you're the devil and blah blah blah. I agree that the whole "back in the good Ole days when America was great thing" is a bit much. Why was America so much better then? It seems that older generations will always think things were better before than they are now. I would bet 70 years ago, people referred to a different time as "the good old days" and in 70 years from now, people will refer to this time period as the "good old days". There's a saying that is soooo true for so many peoples' mentalities, "the older I get, the greater I (or it) was." Memories can be very short-lived.

I think dog breeding can be a good thing if it is done correctly. Do you want a purebred dog from a breeder? Great, go to a reputable breeder and get one. Not a backyard breeder, not a pet store, not somebody selling a litter of puppies on Craigslist. Another good thing to note is you will NOT find a reputable breeder of mixes like goldendoodles because breed associations do not recognize them as an actual breed.
DH and I really want a Boston (named Hines after Hines Ward). We kept reading how good they are with babies and kids, and super low maintenance. But last week 2 people he works with told him the complete opposite, and now he doesnt want one. BUT LOOK AT THIS FACE!!!
@Charla1224 I feel you. I think of it as the time travel test - how far back can you travel in time and find a world that is more accepting and better for you than the present? As women, we really can't go back that far.

The great thing about rescues is that sometimes, the dogs have been there for a while, so the rescue may know which of their dogs have the temperament for kids, etc. Also, you could find a dog who is in foster care. You'll know exactly what the dog is like because you can talk with their foster parent!

I agree with those who are not a fan of Trump. I think the reason why he has so many supporters is because he isn't a traditional politician and people are just fed up with our political climate.
What I think we really need in a leader is someone more moderate, although that will never happen with our party system because it is so polarized. A moderate won't get their party's nomination because they aren't liberal or conservative enough. It's really quite sad. John Kasich seems like he is more moderate than anyone else in the republican field, but I highly doubt he would get the nod because of not being on the far right.

They're comfortable with the way they talk and the things they say and don't want to take the time to consider how it makes others around them feel.... It's too much extra work.

My mom got a dog through a rescue (shih tzu). He is the sweetest, cutest dog ever. I would never go through a breeder or a puppy mill, and definitely want to go through a rescue!
@yogahh I totally agree that mixes are cute! I had the sweetest Border Collie/Golden mix for the longest time. She was incredible! All the intelligence of a Border with the goofy loving nature of a Goldie. But, we got her from a shelter. She was the only dog there that could stand up to my father's pure-bred, super expensive St. Bernard (who he refused to get fixed, BTW). My mom saw it as a huge accomplishment that her "mutt" was stronger, healthier, and smarter than my father's precious pure breed. And we were doing a great thing by giving her a second chance at a great life vs. ordering her to be created just for us.

This. When DH and I got our dog we researched for a good year before we found a breeder we were comfortable with. The breeder we went with actually had a degree in animal husbandry and bred both dogs and horses. They were also able to provide us with lineage of our puppy going back to his great great grandparents - which was also registered with the AKC. We of course found tons of breeders with adorable puppies, but with any of those we could never tell if they had responsible breeding practices in place.
This being said, I'm all for adopting dogs. If I had had it my way our first dog would not have been the one we got (I wouldn't have it any other way now of course... He's amazing and a great addition to our family). All of the dogs at my dad's house growing up and even now are adopted (including the one someone was going to just dump in a nice neighborhood bc they didn't have time for it). Our next dog will definitely be adopted.

I personally don't agree with this 100%. I have worked with dogs a lot in various arenas, and have worked with rescue organizations in various arenas. Of course there are good ones, but there are also horrible ones who do not disclose the truth about the dogs. And dogs are like people, they can take a while to warm up, and once they are comfortable are totally different than they were at first. So sometimes a dog develops some "bad habits" that weren't previously witnessed. Sure a long term foster situation may help with this, but not always since they will almost always have a different situation than you do.
I have both a rescue and a dog from a breeder and both are great and both have their short comings of course. I'm undecided which route I would go in the future, but my guess is a reputable breeder or a rescue that I did extensive research and work with.
DH and I really want a Boston (named Hines after Hines Ward). We kept reading how good they are with babies and kids, and super low maintenance. But last week 2 people he works with told him the complete opposite, and now he doesnt want one. BUT LOOK AT THIS FACE!!!
I've met both kinds of Boston Terriers. Frenchies may be a similar option that tend to be low key!

For me, I'm almost afraid to say or do anything because someone is going to be offended. Either the "liberal" person is going to be offended that I said something insensitive or the "conservative" person is going to be offended that I beat around the bush. We're so worried about being PC and not offending people, it's impossible to say or do anything anymore. It's annoying.
jessiedee13 said, people can't seem to handle different opinions anymore. Like all the "mommy wars." I really don't care how you parent. Sure, there are things I'm going to side-eye due to extremes as I am soooo not an extremes kind of person. But really, most things I disagree with, I disagree with...for me. You do it how you want.

To me, it all boils down to intent. You can generally tell if someone is trying to be offensive or if it's an honest mistake. For example, when someone is offended by being wished a Merry Christmas. I'm a Christian, but if someone wished me a Happy Kwanzaa or Hanukkah, I would smile and say, "Thank you. Same to you!"
There is nothing wrong with politely telling a person that whatever they said would be better expressed in a different way. That's how we learn. It just seems that everything turns into a war because we all have access to our own soapbox platform using social media and other online forums.
You might have heard the story of a school that was instructed not to refer to their classrooms as ladies and gentlemen or boys and girls. That's an extreme example, but that's the stuff that I'm talking about. The rules change so fast, so it takes a while for people to catch on.
@That1didntcount I HATE peppermint! I hate it even more when it's hidden in delicious looking cookies!!

Ohhh - I agree with this SO much! I'm also in an interracial relationship in the south, where everyone says they aren't racist until someone close to them starts dating (from both sides). Our families are amazing, but people who say that racism doesn't exist are not on the receiving end of it. Already having discussions with my husband about how to have conversations with our unborn child because of the things people say that aren't 'PC' breaks my heart.

I've been holding this in for some time... someone on this board (in the baby names thread) said they would name a boy Kingston...but if it were a girl- Kyngstan. Sorry, but whyyyy?!
I agree with those who are not a fan of Trump. I think the reason why he has so many supporters is because he isn't a traditional politician and people are just fed up with our political climate.
I agree with those people, but he is non-traditional in the worst way. Who wants a president who rates women's looks or says he would be dating his daughter if she wasn't related to him? Not even getting into the political side of it... he is just extremely creepy.

I have both a rescue and a dog from a breeder and both are great and both have their short comings of course. I'm undecided which route I would go in the future, but my guess is a reputable breeder or a rescue that I did extensive research and work with.

I've met both kinds of Boston Terriers. Frenchies may be a similar option that tend to be low key!
jessiedee13 said, people can't seem to handle different opinions anymore.

My UO is I'm not a fan of unique spellings in names. Why add extra letters and take away letters. I worked with someone with the name Aigner, she pronounced her names as (on-yah) not even close! My one friend is naming her daughter Kynzleigh.. WHY?!
