Sex during pregnancy

Last night after my husband & I had sex & I went to the bathroom, in the toilet there was a few drops of red blood but when I wiped it was a real light pink. I wiped several more times checking for blood & nothing. Everything was normal. Worried about it all last night. But when I woke up this morning, everything was normal & I had no blood at all. The sex wasn't rough & it was a quickie (sorry if this is tmi, just trying to check on my little one.) I'm between 11-12 weeks & just had my first dr appt Tues & everything was good & Doctor wasn't concerned with anything. Can someone please help ease my mind that everything is ok?

Re: Sex during pregnancy

  • It can happen for sure. If the bleeding has stopped that's a good thing. The cervix is more sensitive and spotting isn't uncommon after sex.
Sometimes clots can form behind the cervix and or in the uterus called a subchorionic hematoma that can bleed a bit as well but being that it stopped already I'd say it was just due to sex.
Even bowel movements can cause spotting.
Call your ob anyway especially if it happens again.

  • I've had some spotting after sex and some bleeding after sex, too.  Also, as PP said, I've experienced it after BM, too.  However, I never saw blood except when I wiped right after.  Doc says same as PP, cervix is sensitive and more prone to bleeding with agitation.  You can try more shallow positions if it freaks you out and call your OB if you need some reassurance.

  • I've had bleeding from sex before. it's a pretty common thing. if the bleeding stopped immediately, has not returned, & your doctor isn't concerned, i wouldn't be either.
  • My midwife told us at our first appointment that with pregnancy, the cervix is like a sponge that's full of blood, so spotting after sex is NOT unusual at all. However, I have a subchorionic hemorrhage, so DH and I are waiting until after this next ultrasound before we get busy as we're terrified of miscarriage. Again, the midwife said we will NOT miscarry from sex, but we're both paranoid. We literally haven't had sex since the night we conceived...........Monday can't get here fast enough!
