Re: **Ticker Change Wednesday 12/9**

  • Week/fruit: 11/lime (virgin margaritas, anyone?)

Upcoming doctor appointments: NT scan/serum markers test, and next OB workup at 13 and almost 14 weeks, respectively.

Rants/Raves: MS is less one day, back the next. Exhaustion has lessened a little, and I'm able to sleep a but better in the last few days.

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes? Any recommendations?

Definitely want to take at least one. FTM, so I have no idea which one(s) we'll do.

  • Week/Fruit: 12 weeks Plum

Upcoming Doctors Appointments: Scheduled to go back to see the doctor in two weeks. Trying really hard to not call and try to go in to get a quick Doppler done. Just so want to hear the heartbeat and believe everything is still good.

Rants/Raves: I've been sleeping a little better although it is taking me forever to fall asleep again. I haven't had to get up to pee as much in the night (which actually worries me that I might be a little dehydrated). But the dreams. Oh crap the dreams are weird.

GTKY: Birthing Classes- since my plan is to do a med free birth, I am going to look in to Birthing Classes. The idea of them make me nervous for some reason, but I think any tool to help keep me calm during labor would be great. I want my husband to go with me so he will be better prepared for what's going to be happening as well. Anyone know the best time to go to those classes?
  • Week/fruit:  11 weeks/ Lime

Upcoming doctor appointments: Dr appointment on Saturday and my NT scan scheduled for next Wednesday.  I'm not sure what to expect at this appointment on Saturday since my NT scan is after the appointment.

Rants/Raves:  I do not feel pregnant at all.  Today I'm slightly cramping- which I hope is a good sign- but for days I've had no symptoms.  I hate complaining about feeling normal- but I really want a sign that everything is progressing normally.

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes?  Any recommendations?  Not sure.  FTM so will probably take whatever class is offered by our hospital- but I'm 99% sure that I'll forget everything that was said in the class anyway.

Upcoming doctor appointments: I have an appointment on Friday with a different OB in the practice.  As I ranted on another thread I am not happy with my OB.  I wanted to switch practices, but my husband talked me into chatting with one of the others to see if he agrees with my current OB.  I am super annoyed at all of this because this practice is well known in my area to be the best and I used them for my daughter and it was great!  This time the OB seems very careless with me--and maybe that's ok-- but he is going against the advice of my endocrinologist and not giving me an early glucose test (I had GD last time that never went away completely and is borderline so it *could* be ignored, but my endo felt strongly about it).  The practice also revised my due date but apparently didn't update my records so there was some debate about my window for prenatal testing.  Not a huge deal but adding it all up has me concerned.  The good news?  I get an extra heartbeat listen in just 2 days!!!!!!

Rants/Raves:  Oops.  I ranted up there ^^.  Rave is that I did the genetic test blood draw and will get results in the next week!!!  I am only a little anxious for abnormalities as I don't have any known risk factors, but would love to know that there are none.  Also, I'll find out the sex!

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes?  Any recommendations?  I don't think so.  We took everything the hospital offered with our daughter.  A refresher might not be a bad idea, but it means getting a babysitter for two different nights and I just think I remember enough about it.  As a FTM, I am glad I did.  I also highly recommend the book, "The Birth Partner" by Penny Simkin (or something like that).  EXCELLENT for both you and anyone who will be in the delivery room with you.

  • Week/fruit: 11/lime

Upcoming doctor appointments:  NT scan next week

Rants/Raves:  Still feeling crappy.  Threw up twice today so far.

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes?  Any recommendations?  No, we took one when I was pregnant with DS through the hospital where we delivered.  I recommend some kind of class.  Hospital or OB is a good place to start.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

When are you wanting to be tested?  What do you mean never went away?  After you gave birth?  What testing did you do?

It's not what *I* want, it's what my endocrinologist wanted.  Glucose test in first tri to see how my body is handling the sugar.

When you have GD you take a 2 hour glucose test 6 weeks pp.  I didn't fail, but I didn't pass. It's called glucose intolerance, which I think is a different way of saying pre-diabetes.  Since then my A1C has been monitored--that is what has been borderline.  Not low enough to ignore, not over the line for diabetes.

    Week/fruit: 14 / lemon

Upcoming doctor appointments: I have my regular 16 week appointment with my OB right before Christmas.

Rants/Raves: Our immediate family (parents and siblings) and a few close friends know we're pregnant, but we haven't announced to the "public" yet. We're planning on a NYE announcement, and I will be over 17 weeks at that point (I can't wait to share it with you all!). We are simply enjoying our news without the whole town/Facebook knowing! One of my close friends is about to have her first baby, and she cannot possibly understand why we are waiting so long. It's annoying. I don't have to have a reason!

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes? Any recommendations? Nope. My husband and I took the class offered by the hospital with our DD, and frankly it was much more beneficial to him than me. By that point, I had done so much research and the class seemed so basic. I'm also having a repeat c/s, so the class won't do me much good this time. We may have to do a tour of the hospital again (which I do recommend to FTM), because our hospital completely remodeled their maternity and women's services areas since I was last there.

I know -  I had it, too.  If you aren't passing tests after birth, it's Type 2 diabetes, not gestational.  What did your OB say when you said your endo wanted it tested?  If you test too early in pregnancy, it's not an accurate GD test as the placenta hasn't even taken over yet.

Upcoming doctor appointments: appointment this afternoon for another ultrasound and first ob appointment. 8 week ultrasound showed a bleed so I am hoping and praying that is gone now.

Rants/Raves: i finaly had my neasuea figured out (what time to make sure I was home). Since last week it had decided to go crazy. Some days I have nothing others I throw up twice a day... makes it tough when I still haven't told work yet.

I'm going to take my advice from my endocrinologist, but thank you.  As I explained, I do not have type 2.  I have a glucose intolerance, or pre-diabetes.  That puts me at higher risk and so they want to monitor the entire pregnancy.  My OB actually agreed the first time we talked, then said not to the second time saying "it's not a big deal."  I am not ok with that.  Not sure why my decision to switch OBs is so controversial or important to you.

Some of the things you post are kind of confusing and I only ask so lurkers aren't getting bad info.  By all means, switch OBs as I said earlier.  It seems like they aren't a good fit for you.

  • Week/Fruit? 13 Peach

Upcoming appointments? Tomorrow is follow-up NT ultrasound. First one baby didn't cooperate. Didn't get to see or hear heartbeat. Not sure if in ready to reveal if this one tanks too.

Rants? I thought 13 weeks was magical? M/S supposed to disappear? This is day 3 of all day nausea and dryheaving.

GTKY? Nope. Did with #1 and it felt like a waste of time and money after all was said and done. I had a 3 day long failed Induction. Followed by emergency csection. Everything went out the window when back labour started.

Upcoming doctor appointments: I have my regular 16 week OB appointment on December 21st.

Rants/Raves: My only rant is that adulting is freaking hard right now.  Work is incredibly overwhelming.  Rave- only 6.5 days left until Christmas break!!

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes?  Any recommendations? We are going to be taking Bradley method classes.  I want to do as much as I can med-free (yes, I know things may happen that are out of my control) and I want my husband to be able to coach me through it.  I also think all the time together will be good for us.

    Yay!!
Weeks / Fruit: 12 weeks and plum

Doctors appts: Today!! Get to hopefully see my little one after a lot of spotting and 4 weeks of progesterone. Keeping everything crossed for it.

Rants /raves : still have MS and weird dreams the last few nights. I dreamt last night that my H had an affair with a girl I vaguely know and he along with 160 other guys were in the frame to be her baby daddy!!

GTKY: I'm a second time mom and took an express class last time withDD. When I sat on the loo after my waters broke and insisted over and over again that I needed to poo and was freaking out because the nurse was shouting "it's not a poo it's the baby. Don't push!" I realized I should have done the full day!! So am doing it this time!!! Lol

  • Fruit -- week 15 depending on the app, an Orange... Maybe a Pear? :-) ((my Ovia app says a Yellow Canary))

Doctor Appt -- I have a regular doctor check up tomorrow (Thursday). I can't wait to hear babies heart beat again :-)

Rants/Raves -- I agree with @denny+lee adulting right now is really hard. Though I have gotten some energy back! whew who second trimester!!

GYKY -- I'm a first time Mom, so I have no clue what classes to take. What necessary vs. what's just common sense put into a class...? I don't have money to waste on taking them all, but I'll start looking into this closer to the new year :-)

Could be. Tough to read tone on the internet.  But this is the second post she has grilled me on my dissatisfaction with my OB and telling me not to get a glucose test because it is ineffective and diagnosing me with Type 2 diabetes when I don't have it is sort of contradicting my endo.

I'm really not trying to grill you and I'm sorry if my tone is reading poorly.  When you said your GD didn't really go away, I was confused on what you meant.  GD is only during pregnancy and I didn't want others thinking it's a life-long thing if they get diagnosed.  I can only go by what you post.  I didn't know if your OB was being a total jerk or if they had a valid reason for not wanting to do the GD test (like waiting until it's a more accurate test because of how pregnancy progresses).  Again, I'm sorry if it feels like I'm attacking you.  I'm really not trying to.  I'm just trying to understand more of the background.

Upcoming doctor appointments: I have my 12 week appointment on Friday. I heard back that all my blood tests came back good but hoping for more details while i am there.

Rants/Raves: Feeling so much better, the MS is mostly gone unless I get too hungry and I am sleeping a little better. I am still soooooo tired and it is making work very difficult. I am very overwhelmed and behind but I have no motivation to work hard.

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes?  Any recommendations? We do plan on taking some but I am not sure yet.
  • Week/fruit: 14 / lemon

Upcoming doctor appointments: I have my 16 week appointment with a substitute OB (mine is on vacation) right before Christmas.

Rants/Raves: I'm tired and about to be really, really tired.  My dog is thankfully coming home from surgery today but I'll be "sleeping" (aka, not sleeping at all) on the floor next to him tonight and likely the next few nights to make sure he is comfortable and not getting at his stitches...he will not sleep with an e-collar and it really stresses him out.  I'm also a little mad at my OB.  She told me I would be getting the cell-free genetic testing done and I just assumed it was standard practice for her to do it.  Now I find out she likely made a mistake about my age (I just turned 34 and I think she thought I just turned 35) so now I may not get it.  I called to ask if I could pay for it out of pocket and the first receptionist I spoke to told me flat out "no, not possible, we won't order it if you aren't high-risk"...I talked to a nurse after that and she said "of course you can".  This isn't the first time I've had completely conflicting and confusing information from their office either, which isn't easy for a FTM.

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes? Any recommendations? I'll likely do a labor/breathing class, an infant massage class, an infant CPR class and maybe even a meditation class.  I'm a perpetual student in many ways.  :)
  • Week/fruit: 15/naval orange (Ovia says Avocado... either is delicious)

    Upcoming doctor appointments: Next Tuesday

Rants/Raves: I was briefly feeling better, but I'm still having nauseous days. And I'm still eating the diet of a six year old :/

GTKY: Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes? Yes, probably. I'm still in slacker mode when it comes to planning anything.
