What do you tell people when they ask how far along you are?

Really curious to see what everyone else says. DH and I are mostly keeping my exact due date to ourselves, so I haven't been telling people how many weeks I am, but rather just saying the due month or how many months along I am. I know with DS1 I said the exact week + day.

  • Depends. If I'm speaking to a fellow mom or close friend, I'd say weeks rounded down. Generally to a male or someone random, I'll say "4.5 months" etc.
  • If someone asks how far along I am, I give them weeks, rounded up or down. However, it's way more common for me to get asked when I'm due, and to that I say, "end of April". If the person is a random stranger, I leave it at that. If it's someone from the neighborhood, I add that we don't expect the baby to actually appear until May, to hopefully avoid at least some of the "haven't you had that baby yet?!" obnoxiousness.
  • My coworkers, friends, and extended family have been fishing for my exact due date. I told DH to stop telling people how many weeks along I am so I don't have to deal with everyone harassing us about "is she in labor yet?!" Not telling people has actually been really nice... I doubt DS2 will be born on his EDD, so that day doesn't really matter to me. I've made a calendar of my 5 week window for at home, just so DH knows when to start preparing and worrying.

  • I'll give weeks rounded up or down to my friends/family and month for strangers or acquaintances.

  • I typically round my week up or down if it's someone I know well, or just give the month in which I'm due to strangers or acquaintances.
  • Depends who I'm talking to but usually weeks rounded up or down. I work in women's health so the people I'm around most tend to understand.

  • I say "early April" - I am due 4/4 but I don't really want people to know the exact date because I don't want to deal with it if I am overdue.

My close friends know the week.
  • If it's a mom friend, I'll tell them how many weeks I am (if I'm only 1-2 days away from the next week, I'll round up). If it's anyone else, I just say "I'm due in April". The month thing has always been hard for me to figure out!

  • I have been just saying the month I'm in, or just saying I'm due March, but who knows with how many times my EDD has changed on me!

I use a chart that seperates the weeks into months for reference. I have it favorited under my photos.

  • May lurker here (early May, so I check both April and May BMCs). I usually tell people I don't know that well how many months. I remember being a non-parent and asking someone how far along they were and they'd give it to me in weeks and I'd be confused. If it's someone who has more recently had kids, I then give them the week and I usually round up to the next week if it's more than a couple of days into that week.
  • I usually go for the month option- I only say exact weeks if it's family who's had a baby, or my bff who is due exactly a week after me :3
  • I round down and tell them I'm due April 22. So like today I'm 20w5d I'll just tell them I'm 20 weeks.

I usually just say I'm due in April, if they ask the specific date I'll tell them. Or I will tell them approx weeks. Math is hard so I don't tell them how many months. I told my aunt I was 6 months over the weekend....I'll be 23 weeks Friday. According to this chart, I am six months but it doesn't make sense to me. lol

I don't count myself as the month until I've completed the weeks in the box or I'm in the last week. I'm 21 weeks, so I've just started saying I'm 5 months.

That makes sense. So I'm 5.5 months!

  • I usually say that I am due in April, which usually brings on another set of questions due to me being pregnant with twins and pretty large for 21 weeks. That leads to me explaining that they will likely arrive in March as they are considered term at 37 weeks. Good times.

I've heard of tons of people saying the month that the week falls in, and it just makes me think of someone who is 5 weeks pregnant saying they are two months along, which makes me laugh.

You'd be in your 6th month (5 months completed).  I think what a lot of people forget when computing weeks vs months is that there are more than 4 weeks in a month (unless you are talking February of course).

When I was pregnant with DS1, I told other moms the exact week + days, but other people either the months completed, or said I was in the 6th month (as an example). I felt like I was trying to make myself sound farther along if I said the month I was in rather than what I had completed.

I like how that chart randomly decided which "months" are five weeks... Like wha? I'm 24W. Starting Sunday I will say "I'm in my seventh month," and will say that until my 29th week. I guess it's still true chart, or hardcore four week rule for me, as I found out I was pregnant in July, and either way that's six months ATM.
  • Yeah counting the months is impossible. I just say weeks... and lately I've been saying "about halfway"
