July 2015 Moms

Today I cried a little in my closet...

1. I'm worried my milk is low. I'm only pumping around 3 Oz total each session when I'm at work and when nursing my LO sometimes seems fussy and unsatisfied. Tried Mothers Milk tea, makes baby crazy gassy. Took Fenugreek for a month, nothing. Now trying The Honest Co. Lactation Plus but not hopeful. Not sure what to do. I can only pump for 15ish minutes 3 times a day at work and I EBF at home. Tried to power pump yesterday and my LO woke up to eat right before bed. : (

2. Since we stopped swaddling a few weeks ago my sweet baby who slept all night us long gone. She's up two to three times a night and I'm exhausted.

3. Still too big for my clothes and a little too small for maternity clothes. Feel like I can't truly diet the way I could be because I'm nursing so instead I have two chins and look like a stuffed sausage in my clothes.

Just feeling weepy today and needed to get it out. Certainly open to any suggestions, especially re: milk supply. Thanks!

  • Heeeey are we the same person? My milk supply is tanking, used to pump 5oz per session and now I'm down to 3oz. I tried Honest Co pills, maybe they helped a tiny bit? But it was such a small change it may have been in my head. Now I'm trying the ridiculously expensive Motherlove pills, no change yet. Also, after eating oatmeal everyday for 2 months I think I stopped responding to it.

My LO went from waking once per night at 3am to every 2 hours. We're now up at midnight, 2, 4 and 6am. This has been going on for the past month. It is so hard to be up all night then at work all day and get home and cook (sometimes) and do bottle washing etc. I have an hour commute each way and power pump on the drive in but it's not doing much.

I still have 30 lbs to lose, I look terrible and have an awful tire around my middle. I hate my work clothes now, nothing fits right, and everyone where I work looks like they just stepped out of the effing J Crew catalog. I also can't diet like I would like to because I'm so concerned about milk supply already. I did a Whole30 and lost a grand total of 4 lbs :(

My goal was EBF to 6 months, which is 1/6/16. Now I'm down to about 20 bags in the freezer and I think I'll *just* make it if my supply doesn't get any worse. You'd think with LO nursing 4x at night my supply would be awesome but it just keeps falling. Maybe it's exhaustion, idk.

No answers for you but a virtual hug! I feel ya, girl. This baby thing is just really, really hard.

  • Have you tried Mrs. Patels!? Someone recommended me to them and I think I will order it and try it. Their website is mrsmilk.com
And you are definitely not alone, our little ones are going through sleep regression and then teething also affects their sleep. My son is also waking up 3-5 times a night. What helps me is when I think that in a few months, he will be sleeping through the night and also that they will only be little once. I also haven't lost all my pregnancy weight and trust me I get hungry because of nursing but I know this is just a phase and eventually I'll go back to working out and exercising but right now I'm trying to enjoy my baby boy the most and eating well so he can also eat well. Even though there's times it gets hard, it is most definitely rewarding. You are doing great mama! You are not alone and don't be sad! You're beautiful no matter what and there's a baby girl who thinks you're her world!! Good luck! :) keep us updated!
  • Keep your head up mama! You are doing the best you can. Working and breastfeeding is hard work!

Your doing a great job! We all have our days! My milk supply went low to and the dr prescribed me a medication and it worked within 24 hours!!! As for weight! I can't fit any of my cloths so don't feel bad ! We made beautiful babies!!
  • 1) I'm short an entire bottle every day I work. I have to pump every off day to get that extra and I'm no longer putting anything into my freezer stash. I've tried everything and still worked with a lactation consultant. The fenugreek works better when taken with blessed thistle. It did help me by about 2 oz a day, but made my little man incredibly gassy so I stopped it. It doesn't really matter what you put in your body if you're not emptying your breasts frequently you won't produce more milk. Who wants to spend all their free time pumping though? 3 oz is totally normal in place of a feeding too. Sometimes I don't even get that much.

    2) My little guy still has never slept through the night. He was waking up twice a night. Now some nights it's 4 times! I'd love to go to bed when he does so I can get more than 3 hours of sleep at a time, but I have to stay up and pump again before bed. I haven't slept through the night in probably 7 months and it makes me sad.

    3) None of my clothes fit either. I finally went out and bout two pair of regular (ie not maternity) jeans and they are the same size I wore before I lost 50 lbs prior to getting pregnant :( I've been back on weight watchers for 2 months and keep losing and gaining the same two pounds. I think my body is just holding onto weight because of breastfeeding, but I want it gone! I keep trying to tell myself I don't care and I'm feeding my baby, but it's just not true. I'm sick of being tired and overweight right now.

At least you know you are not alone. The struggle is real.
  • I know a tanking supply is frustrating and I just wanted to say way to go mama's that you've already been able to ebf for as long as you have already! I hope you are able to continue ebf as long as you want to.

I always wanted to ebf but had to supplement with formula when lo was 4 days old because she lost over 10% while waiting on my milk. Then it ended up the bm was the supplement. I finally stopped nursing all together when she hit 4 months old because my supply from a whole entire day of pumping from down to 1/2 oz (from an all time high of 5.5oz). The cruel joke is that it's been about 3 weeks since I quit nursing her and I still have a little milk.
  • Are you guys pace feeding? It can really make all the difference with how much they're taking in every day.

  • I can so relate to these woes. Especially the weight. I have 25 pounds to lose and can't stop eating cookies. :( My dh was just away for 5 days, came home and was zero help (he's awesome but I wanted to murder him this morning), I have my period and my baby is a teething mess. I've just been crying and crying and crying.
  • I second the eating sweets!! My palate has a thing for sweets since I had my son lol
  • What is pace feeding?
  • Yes mine is being pace fed. He stays wiyh dad while I work and only gets a 3.5 oz bottle 4 times a day (I'm gone 14 hours). He gets up twice in the middle of the night and I feed him before I leave for work.

@Jurse1018 pace feeding is a slow method of feeding baby that mimicks breastfeeding. There are videos on YouTube. Basically you do this so baby doesn't get used to the fast fliw of a bottle and seem like they need more milk. Really a baby doesn't need more than 4-5 (and 5 is a lot) ounces per feeding or 1-1.5 ounces per hour mom is away. The breastmilk changes to suite baby's needs so there's no need to increase the amount like with formula.
