Anyone else cothe diapering?

Hey ladies!! So this will be my 3rd baby(Fxd that i finally get my girl!!) And ive decided that i really want to give clothe diapers a real try. I have a friend that sells them whos amazing, but im looking for other moms who have or are wanting to clothe diaper! Anyone??

I currently cloth diaper my youngest daughter & will cloth my new little bean too! I absolutely love it! Being pregnant does make the rinsing out the poop a little hard sometimes because the smell but other then that no complaints!

Im excited about trying it, but ive heard nothing but good things about it. How many diapers and inserts do you have? I want to make sure i have enough, but dont want to get too many lol

I cloth diapered my first baby from newborn to potty trained. With my second, we did mostly cloth until she started a lot of solid foods. At that point the poop got so gross and hard to scrape and there was just too much laundry with 2u2. I plan to do the same for this one, unless I can somehow make it through the beginning solids phase and then I would go up to (early) potty training.

Honestly if I didn't already have them I would probably not buy them to start on my third baby. It is a lot of work. Unless you have some sort of diaper cleaning service in your area, in which case it will probably be expensive. You really have to look at your availability and commitment. Also remember that you don't have to do exclusively cloth, you can do part time too.

I will say using cloth diapers while EBF (1-7mo) is awesome and I definitely recommend it at that age. Babies typically don't "blow out" their diapers in cloth. If you continue to use them after, I believe it helps potty train a lot earlier. GL!

I cloth diaper DD who is almost 15m. I use pockets and all-in-ones. I only have about 6 AIOs and the rest are pockets. I'm think I have about 25 total. I plan on getting about 10 more before LO arrives. I plan on using disposables for the first month or two because I know it's gonna be a big transition going from 1 to 2 kids in diapers. I'm a sahm, so it's easier for me to stay on top of the laundry (every 3 days of dipes).

I will definitely be cloth diapering, hopefully up until potty training. I'm still working on researching how many of what types I should get and what supplementary supplies could make all the difference.

Thats the stage im in right now. My friend sent me like 8 diapers, 12 inserts and a "diaper bag" all for 50 so im pretty excited

We plan on cloth diapering. Question: how do you know which brand will be best? Is there some trial and error involved to see which ones your baby likes best? Or are they not fussy with cloth like they can be with sposies?

@AL_TwinCities It was trial and error for me. I found DD was allergic to certain fabrics, so I stick to BumGenius and Smartbottoms. They are more expensive but work for us. When I started I bought server all brands and types to see what fit her best.

A group of us girls from S14 cloth diaper and we are in a Facebook group together. Everyone seems to have different brands that works best for them and their kiddos.

What did you do with the ones DD was allergic to? Do you sell them somewhere? I don't want to overspend on cloth diapers that we won't even use!

I used cloth with my other three. Thought we were done, so I sold my newborn stash about two years ago.

I do still have some one size pockets, but I'll probably rent a newborn stash, since we will DEFINITELY be done after this one.

It's really not that hard. If you EBF, the poop is soluble (I formula feed all of mine, so I spray out the poop into the toilet before putting it in the wetbag). Make sure to empty the inserts from any pockets that you use. You can line dry the diapers, which makes them last longer (I'll be using diapers that I used on my now 7 year old); unfortunately, we're in an HOA now, so I think it's "frowned upon" to line dry. The dryer is fine. You have to use special diaper rash creams; any kind with zinc will cause build up. It's better to use a cloth diaper friendly detergent- I like Rockin' Green (it's available nationally, but locally made around San Antonio).

For newborns, I prefer prefolds, fitteds, and pockets. For infant and up, I like the one size pockets and all in ones. You can always use a cloth diaper trial to find the kinds that you prefer. I used one through Jillian's Drawers.

Good luck! It's really a lot of fun. I was missing cloth diapering so much my body decided to expel my IUD and get me pregnant so I could do it all over again!

I am hoping to cloth diaper. DH was cloth diapered, so I'm hoping my MIL (once she's in the know) will be able to help with recommendations. I'm actually thinking to do tri folds & flats with diaper covers, just because our electric dryer isn't great, but clothes on the line dry really fast here year round without freezing. I will TRY the dryer, but I'd rather know that I have options. That way I hopefully won't have to wash the covers as much. We'll see how it goes though...

I'm a FTM and we're going to cloth diaper too. This is a great thread- thank you everyone handing out the cloth advice! Is there anywhere you find better or worse to buy/register for cloth? I registered for a few brands target had available out of convenience and chose at random on Amazon. Any suggestions?

I love my cloth diapers, my one year old is still in them and will likely be in them when this LO arrives I have used snap adjustable pocket diapers since she was able to fit past "newborn" size (she was small when she was born) but they will fit her until she potty trains. We do use a disposable at night because her big bladder pees through them and she is in bed without a diaper change for 8-10 hours (yay cosleeping/bfing means I get way more sleep and she gets to eat whenever she is hungry!).

We plan to cloth diaper! It's really not that bad when they are EBF. I stopped with DS when he ate mainly solids because his poop was nasty. He does not have solid poo still at 2 years old

I recommend it!

We have 15 pocket diapers and that works for us! (3 bum genius and 12 of a brand I don't remember) We also have some thirsties brand where you put a prefold in and it's a plastic cover, but I don't love those especially when they get older.

We cloth with the exemption of vacations. Sometimes disposables on weekends if really busy. My son will stay dry for hours but say sitting in one position in the carseat for 2 hours and he goes, a cloth diaper only holds so much. His body weight pushes it all over him. So they are not as asorbant, but we have saved alot of $ using them.

I would like to cloth diaper and I'm a FTM too. Seems like Bum Genius is highly recommended and is fairly easy so I'm planning to go with that brand.

We are planning to send the little one to daycare though and I'm hoping they won't have an issue with the cloth diapering. That's something I will have to research before getting too far into the cloth diaper thoughts! Also, right now we're in an apartment and have to pay for laundry, so it would be a lot more difficult to do it while still living here, but we're in the market for a house, so that could change things.

Do you rinse to make sure most of the BM is off and then you throw it directly into bin where you hold all of them? I am not grossed out by this and neither is my DH. I just want to know how people make sure everything is kept clean!

My wash routine is a two cycles in the washing machine, the first is a quick wash and then a regular cycle. The hardest part for me was figuring out I had hard water and that DD was allergic to Tide. I use Gain with a 1/2 cup Borax for each load now and I have no stink. I dry in the dryer because I'm too lazy to line dry. I highly recommend joining the Facebook group called Fluff Love & CD Science. It has been a great resource on establishing a wash routine the works best for our machine and water type.

Yes, you rinse off any poop before washing. I use the dunk and swish method but they have diaper sprayers that attach directly to the toilet. I keep the dirty diapers in a open pail in the bathroom and do not notice a smell. I do the wash every 3 days.

This is a great thread! I've been curious about cloth diapers, but haven't been able to find much useful info yet.

Question for moms who have done it before: We plan to put LO in daycare eventually, anyone have experience with this? Do most daycares just use disposables and then you cloth at home?

I am currently cloth diapering my 16 month old DD. We started with prefolds and Tiny Assunta covers with her at birth and we rarely had blow outs! It's super easy when you're EBF..
You just toss it all in the wash! Now we use Sunbaby pocket diapers and they are great!

We did cloth for our 1st and plan on using them again for this one. We stopped using them for DD at about 1year when she really started eating solids. She has really sensitive skin and we just couldn't get the right equation to keep her diaper rash away so we moved to disposables and that seemed to help though she can still get bad diaper rashes and i had to start making my own diaper rash cream. Any way we really loved cloth diaper while we used them and i even got my sister to use them until her little guy went to daycare. we use best bottoms

@aceoffaith around me and most of what i've read is daycares dont use cloth diapers it a hygiene thing i think. So you can cloth at home but daycare would require you supply disposables.

@chanfa i use A&D as a base and put some essential oils in there. Lavender, tea tree oil and frankincense it helps with her eczema and to heal any scratches she or anyone else gets.

How many would we have to buy if we are having a singleton and we want to wash maybe every 2-3days? I don't know how many diapers a baby goes through in a day =(

Newborns can go through approximately 10-12 diapers a day. After that it starts to slow down...

I am planning on trying to make a few covers myself and using prefolds underneath. I have a couple "patterns" saved already and got two covers from a friend to try and match.

I'm the world's laziest cloth diaperer but I love it. With DD, we did cloth at home and disposable for trips. I stopped around a year. I was sick of the poop by then. We still saved a ton doing it half way. I did it for financial savings and stuck to prefolds and covers. My sister is giving me her stash of AIO and pockets this time around now that her son is potty trained. I'm excited.

We cloth diaper DD (22 months) starting at 1 month. We used prefolds and covers up to about 5 months. Then we started to transition to pockets. We bought several Rumparoos, but they weren't a good fit for her chunky thighs and we're not very absorbent, and we got lots of leaks.

Grovia shells and soakers are by far our favorite! I like that there are 3 soaker options and they are the most trim fit I've found. We just started using their new O.N.E. diaper for nighttime and they are awesome! No leaks and she sleeps through the night.

We wash with original Tide powder after trying several of other cloth-recommended brands, and frankly they all sucked. They never got rid of the stink or stains. We now wash every 1.5 - 2 days. If they sit too long, they don't come clean.

We'll reuse most of our covers and the prefolds with the new LO. Most of the Grovia soakers are wearing out and need replacingbecause we've kept the minimum stash to save money.

To whoever was asking where to buy: Amazon usually has a good selection, but watch prices, Jilliansdrawers.com, or the company's website.

I can't wait to get my stash out for round 2!!!! I LOVED cloth with my boy! We rented newborn fitteds with covers for the first 16 weeks from a local family owned business. It was absolutely worth it. The newborn sizes are perfect fits and are pretty expensive to buy, but renting was super cost effective. We got more than half of our money back when returning diapers in good condition. So really we spent very little in the end. Then we used Bumgenious pockets and prefolds with covers until potty trained at 2.5 years. Sun bleaching is my biggest tip!! Lay out your wet washed diapers in the sun and it wipes out any stainage

then tumble in the dryer to soften for inserts and fitteds. slways line dry covers and pockets. I just rigged ip a clothes line in my laundry room, and tossed them over for a few hours. We traveled with cloth and Grandmas were in on it too, and the hubs loved the savings! I bought a new Bumgenious everytime I got a coupon from Buy Buy Baby, usually made it about $13. And I preferred the snaps on those because they size up and you will use them longer than covers. The hook and loops tended to loose their velcro-ness around 18 months. But i did like hook and loops when the boy was small (first 6 months). Bulk up your stash with prefolds! They are easy peasy and cheap.
