Starting to Show

Hey Ladies!

I am almost 9 weeks pregnant and I feel like I'm starting to show. This is my fourth so I figured I would start showing sooner than later, but I have not told my office yet. I am waiting until my doctors appointment on the 16th before we start telling people that are not immediate family (which we have already told).

What do you all think?

  • Thank you! Monday I wore some maternity clothes that I had from my last pregnancy and it was still a little baggie so I think I will go and get some in between blouses, we'll probably need them for a bit now and then once baby comes it's always good to have that in between clothes as well.

Has anyone else told their job or waiting to tell them till a certain time?

  • My boss was eyeing my belly today...one more week until I tell her(after my appt)! I always gain weight in my belly and "show" early, so I'm not surprised that I look huge, but know it's just bloat. Loose tops and long scarves are my bffs right now

I have a bloat baby plus leftover from baby #1 so I look about 20 weeks pregnant ;)

Change baby #1 to baby #2 and #3 and exactly this.

  • @KCKeller I already told my bosses... And a few coworkers (not making a giant announcement, just telling people as it comes up). I have a bloat baby too, and I can't suck it in. I keep telling DH I just look like I need to do more crunches! I'll be happier with it when it's more obviously a baby bump and not just a 'did she put on some weight?' pooch.
  • I am doing what @erin7264 is doing, telling as it comes up. I was so sick today and work at a small school they all wondered if I was ok. I wasn't. That was the only reason I told them.

Yup. I look ridiculous right now.

OP, you look like I did before I had any kids. No one is going to look at you and think, omg, that golf ball under her tight dress is totes a baby. Wear looser clothes if you're concerned.
  • It's probably still mostly bloat, although I have heard that 2+ time moms show a lot earlier, so being on #4 maybe it is a real bump. Right now I start my day off looking normal and by the end of the day look about 20 weeks pregnant with bloat (I still had a "baby bump" from DD that I hadn't worked off yet)

I'm putting off telling work as long as I can because I'm hoping to get a permanent line so that I get maternity leave. But there is one procedure we do at work that I can't do while pregnant (a medication we give via injections), so if I get to work and there's that injection on my schedule I'll have to confide in someone!
  • Ugh I hate the early bloat! It's tough but honestly most people probably can't tell. Peoples weight fluctuates all the time. We just think about it because we know what it really is. I'm sure you look great :) I am waiting until after I get my bonus to tell my boss haha. I don't want him to think he doesn't have to pay me cause I might not come back. Or maybe I should tell him so he tries to entice me...hmmm

  • Umm your baby is an inch in diameter... It's bloat, meaning gaining water and salt weight. Your hormones are helping with this but no, your marble sized baby is not showing.

@noelietrex I so agree! Tired of all the internet doctors on here saying otherwise... You've got a protruding lower belly you didn't have before you concieved- that means your pregnancy is showing!!!
    Pregnancy yes, baby no.
  • @jennyleigh16  I agree. Pregnancy can show, but that doesn't mean it is baby.  I am only 6w and definitely have a pooch going on.  My baby is 1/4 of an inch.....This is way more water weight then I had with my first pregnancy.

This is my 2nd pregnancy and starting to show at 9 weeks. 2 people asked me at work yesterday if I'm pregnant but I haven't told anyone yet so I just told them "thanks for calling me fat" lol
  • This is how i look! Im 8 wks!!

I took this picture a few weeks ago so I was around 8wks. This 4th kid BLOAT is no joke. It's ridiculous and I truly wish I could claim it as showing but it's bloat. It goes down and comes back day to day.

ETA Excuse my crazy face. I sent it to H because he was complaining how he was so miserable and bloated after lunch. Also have I mentioned that my other three have killed my stomach muscles?!!

  • This was before thanksgiving. So about 8 1/2 weeks. Sometimes I look like this and sometimes I don't. This is my third and I never lost the baby weight or pooch from my last. The bloat sucks.
  • For you first time moms, I actually didn't start showing with my first pregnancy until 17 1/2 weeks. It's unlikely it's baby showing at the moment.

I was closer to 25 weeks with my first.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • All these skinny minis and their little bumps have me so jealous and depressed. I doubt anyone would guess I'm pregnant for a long time due to my extra stuffing :/

Same lol. I will prob be 9 months when people will start to wonder what's up.

I had serious bump envy with my first pregnancy. My husband said I just hid it well. I was 7 months pregnant and people were asking me if I had just found out. Cue tears. The week before I had DD, a (female) high school aged gas station attendant told my husband that I was a "cute pregnant". Made my week!!

This is me too and now with my bloat I just look huge. Don't let it bum you out and just rub your belly a lot and then people will know :)

Let's just go with "Your baby must be a spine hugger, because I couldn't tell for the longest time!" ;)
  • Aw thanks ladies your kind words made this emotional momma teary :) in a good way !

I had some "extra stuffing" for baby #2 & folks definitely knew I was pregnant by 18-20 weeks. Actually, with my first pregnancy I was much thinner & folks asked "where is that baby" until 35 weeks then BOOM. ;)

So the extra stuffing part may not work against you in the showing department. :-D

  • There's always the other side of the coin too, you could be one of those huge pregnant ladies that has to deal with the "are you sure there's only one in there?" Question haha. My friend is HUGE because she has a very short midsection and people ask her if she's having twins or triplets all the time. Either way, bumps are beautiful in all shapes and sizes :-)
  • Agreeably the belly/bloat comes and goes but when I'm not pregnant, well I never have bloating like it lol. In the morning getting dressed isn't too difficult but if I change outfits at any point of the later part of the day, it makes it more challenging.

This was me the first time around. I didn't show until close to 20 weeks, but then I got HUGE. I hated people that asked if I was having twins though. That's just rude. And my baby wasn't even big!
  • This may be just me, but I think it's a little psychological. Just knowing I'm pregnant makes me stand a little different in front of the mirror, you know? The bloat makes it harder to suck in, but I'm also like, aw look at my stomach getting bigger. Whereas usually I would not do that ever lol.

One of the best parts of being pregnant (once you are sharing with people and have an actual real bump) is letting your stomach relax always.

Also for anyone wondering, baby bumps are usually kind of hard, not soft and squishy! I would compare it to if you held your breath in your cheeks to look like a chipmunk, it kind of feels like that if you touch it.

  • I'm only 6 weeks, but I wish I was showing so I could take it easy at my gym class and not look lazy. I suppose it'll be worse when I start showing but not enough to know it's pregnancy. They'll just think all the slacking is taking a toll on my waistline!

  • I can see the changes happening much faster the second time around. I don't look pregnant but I'm very fluffy in the middle all of a sudden, which is the only place I'm usually trim. I also feel self-conscious working out. I stopped yoga sculpt because its so ab/inversion filled and I'm lower intensity in zumba and my workout clothes look terrible.
