I had my Anatomy scan today at 18w6d, my daughter weighs 9 oz, is this normal? According to my research, she should be around 8.47. Am I going to have a large baby?

Re: Anatomy Scan

  • That seems pretty close to what she should be, particularly since the scans are not likely to be completely accurate. I wouldn't worry.

  • i wouldn't worry because,
    1) like PP said, weighing 9oz when the average is 8.47oz is not a huge difference.
    2) their measurments are often quite inaccurate.

It's too early, measurements can have significant intra- and inter-observer variability... It will be more helpful to look at the growth curve or the weight late in pregnancy to determine the expected weight of the newborn (and even then they are often wrong).
  • My baby boy has been measuring a week ahead since 8wks. The doc is not worried and says measurements can be off a bit once they get bigger. As long as hes not measuring small then shes not concerned. My husband and i we about 7lb so hopefully its just the camera effect lol adds a bit more weight. Im not worried and glad he is growing big and strong.
  • My son weighed 15 oz at his 20 week.. And was born 6#12oz.. So no truth to size at this pt. :)
  • If the average is 8.47 and your baby is 9...i don't see the problem.
  • That's only a half-ounce difference. No need for concern right now.
