Dr Apts??

2»

Re: Dr Apts??

  • I had a pap test booked for November 26 and I took a test that was positive on November 24th.  Due to the craziness surrounding my EDD, I will be seeing them again on December 11th and then I will have an ultrasound booked from there so we can figure it out.

Dreading the bloodwork to come before this appointment.  I just had some done as a pre-pregnancy plan to ensure my boosters were up to date in early November and now they have a new list of tests for me.  Joy!

  • @thisagain and @bsckgb7 Lovenox here too... already have one black and blue but it's not so bad.

My OB usually doesn't do one until the anatomy scan at 18 weeks unless you choose to do the NT scan at 12 weeks.

This is what my doctor does as well. The first trimester screen is scheduled between 11-13 weeks.

  • I just talked to my doc and the soonest appointment is February 3. I can't believe it's so far out. It makes me kind of concerned about the whole thing that would be over 13 weeks. Not sure if I should look for another doctor but I love my obgyn. Any one have a similar date?

That seems a little too far. You wouldn't be able to do any genetic testing or 1st Tri screening that late. I would look for another dr.

  • Just got my first appointment in. Not until January 11th. I'm really sad. I might have to call and see if they can see me sooner. Especially since I had HG last time.

  • I called my doctor a week after finding out, after taking a few more tests and getting some more BFP's. I'm roughly 1 month along now and they are not seeing me for anything until the week of Christmas (I'll be ~7 weeks then). She said there was no reason to come in for a blood test now and then another appointment in three weeks. So, they'll be doing my blood test as well as first u/s at that appointment.
  • My first appt is next Friday (I'll be 6 weeks, 5 days) and the nurse told me they won't be doing an ultrasound. I asked when they might then and she said not until week 20 which is waaay too late for my liking. Hoping that when I go, I can convince them to do one sooner than that!

  • My appointment is January 7th. Feels like forever away! They are going to do blood test, exam and ultrasound. Come on January!
  • @ioliodio - at least there should be (relatively) a lot to see by then!
    Yeah. Silver lining, right? :)

Still, a little disappointed, I wanted to get in right at 8 weeks and then schedule the blood work for 10 weeks.

  • Met with my midwife today to do history and learn about NZ system. Glad I called her right away as she wasn't accepting July due dates anymore, so I'm sure Aug is filling up. Next appt is the 23rd and dating scan hopefully 21 or 22.

I scheduled my appointment for the 21st of December with the OB that I saw while pregnant with DD-- I'll be almost 8 weeks. Sounds like my OB just wants to do pregnancy confirmation at the appt. Is it even worth going then?  I mean, if I have a BFP, what's the point of the confirmation? Or, should I just re-schedule when I hit the 10-12 week mark and they do the prenatal visit where they draw labs?

  • I am also feeling a little bummed about having to wait until January for the ultrasound, I was really hoping that I could have a photo for Christmas to show close family - but I suppose we can't control the timing and I will just have to be more creative for my private announcement! I don't have an OBGYN appointment yet, I'm waiting on a referral from my doctor (as I don't know an OBGYN in the area), and she told me I should wait until 10 weeks for ultrasound because you can't properly tell anything before then.  I'm sure that's just her opinion and every doctor/OBGYN seems to have a different timeline.

I had my HCG levels tested yesterday (900) and going back in tomorrow for another test.  My best friend is an OBGYN (in another country), and she tells me that the most important thing is not necessarily the HCG number you get, but the fact that the numbers keep doubling.  It's so funny how many different things you get told by different sources, no wonder we are all so anxious / hungry for some reliable information!

But pregnant today, so happy about that! :)

  • I got my BFP on Thanksgiving and today is my missed period, so I took it quite early because I couldn't help myself. My first appt isn't until Jan 13th with I believe a nurse or someone else at the practice, then 01/25 with the OB. Is there any reason I should schedule a visit or any sort of pregnancy test with my GP now?

I'm definitely not an expert, but as far as I know I don't think there is any reason you need to (but you could call your GP and ask), I only went to get the blood test because my last BFP ended in an early miscarriage, and wanted some reassurance and to know if I needed to take progesterone supplements.

  • I probably won't be seen until the second trimester just due to timing/holidays/insurance. Being that it is my 3rd, I don't mind waiting.

  • I found out I was pregnant on sunday, and called monday morning. My appt is for the 23rd, I will be 7 weeks and 5 days. They will do bedside u/s, go over everything and lots of blood work. And i will only see the NP. I was also able to schedule my 12 week appt with my ob for January, not sure if I will have an exam as I just had my pap two months ago. I don't know how I'm going to get through the next 3 weeks, I need to see that little heartbeat!
  • First appt with maternal fetal specialist and he's doing an ultrasound is Dec 22.then seeing reg.ob Dec 23....

No. It would honestly be a waste of resources (insurance, money, time). The test they give you in a doctor's office is a cheap urine test just like you would take at home. If you have a BFP, you are KU.

Women who go in for repeat blood tests were ordered to do so for a medical reason, such as recurrent loss. I've had one miscarriage and my OB won't do betas because loss is unfortunately very common. Recurrent loss is another story.

My OB isn't seeing me until 14 weeks for my first ultrasound since my RE is doing a viability check at 7 weeks. But that means I cannot get an ultrasound picture, nuchal scan, see the heartbeat, check growth to confirm EDD... Until 14 weeks... Ugh :(

    1. Shouldn't your RE be giving you those things at your viability check? If it's a viability check, they'll want to confirm your baby is growing on target which means they'll confirm EDD. You should also be able to see a heartbeat as that begins around 6 weeks.

    2. 14 weeks is too late if you want to do some genetic screenings, like the NT scan. I would call your OB/nurse to discuss that particular issue.
  • I actually found out I'm pregnant from my OB because I went in to check on my progesterone levels since we suspected they were low throughout my cycle. She's having me repeat bloodwork Monday to see how my levels are increasing, but was happy with where my progesterone is at this point. My first ultrasound will be around 8 weeks.
