10 week old loves to sleep long stretches at night- maybe too long??

My baby loves his crib and is in bed between 7:30-8:30 every night. He wakes once in the night usually around 3-4. This week he did sleep right till 6 am. Last night he was in crib by 730 woke at 6 am to eat and I had to pump so put him back in crib and he's still sleeping it's 8:15 is this normal? He is a happy content baby so I wouldn't be surprised if he was just lying in the crib some parts of the night. Do I wake him?

  • If he is gaining well and has enough dirty and wet diapers...no way I would wake at night.

As long as he's gaining well and your pediatrician is fine with it, I'd let him sleep as long as he wants at night. DD is 12 weeks old, has already doubled her birth weight and sleeps at least 16 hours a day, often more. Now, I have gone in during the day to wake her up (we keep a schedule) to find her quietly and happily staring away at the world around her. She also likes to practice her vocalizations before sleeping. Some people would think it's bad for me to just leave her be in her crib, but I know she needs quiet time otherwise she starts throwing fits in the evening. Use your mommy instincts. Some babies need to sleep more than others. Some babies need their quiet time. Learning to put yourself to sleep (and being happy and content) when you wake up in the middle of the night isn't just a good thing. It's part of being a functioning human.

  • That's great! As long as baby is a healthy weight, let him sleep! My now 13-week-old has gone 10-1/2 hour stretches of sleeping before, usually it's 7-9 hours, eat, then a few more, but he has his moments. Our pediatrician said it's fine to let him sleep and wake us up to eat (most babies will make up for any lost food and eat more during the day). Count yourself lucky!
  • my baby usually sleeps 10 hours a night. she's growing well and is cheerful, so I'm thankful, not worried! :)
  • Yep, sleep as much as he likes at night, so long as weight gain and diaper output aren't issues.
  • My daughter is 11 weeks and sleeps from 7:30/8:30 until 3/4 then goes back to sleep til 7/8 and she's done this for about 3 weeks. She weighs about 13 pounds now
