I feel like a broken record on these threads, but it bears repeating: Do your own research. Don't just take at face value that pregnant women "aren't supposed to eat" something; find out why, read up on the science and make an informed decision. If you're going to miss out on something you love, make sure it's for a real reason and not just because you read somewhere that you should avoid it.
...now all I want is a sub, chicken salad, or a bologna sandwich (because I'm 8, apparently, lol).
This is me. I eat like a kid now. Peanut butter sandwiches, egg salad, and corndogs have become staple meals. Fruit and vegetables have to be cut up and not served with anything else. The only 'grown-up' food I still want is (of course) sushi. Which I've had twice now with no regrets.
My OB said a lunchmeat sandwich ever once in a while is no big deal- but doesn't want me eating it every day. Thanksgiving leftovers are a once a year occasion- so with her logic I say it's fine. Just don't have lunchmeat this week or next week to balance it out- or you can always toast the whole sandwich.
this is the perfect place to confess our dietary 'cheats' it looks like!
Last week I was invited at a supper where the host made a moose tartare from a moose he hunted himself... I could not resist it it was so different and interesting (also not something you have the chance to eat very frequentely). I figured since I knew the origin of the meat (wild vs farmed in questionnable conditions...), and that they used a reputable butcher to clean the meat, that it would be ok to try a little.
It was SO good! Im happy I tried it else I would have regretted it for a long time. Im not saying Ill have more raw meat or fish, but I think if there is a special occasion and you know the source of the meat/fish, its a more manageable risk. But those are all personal decision base on your level of confort (and how much you like those type of food to begin with )
I have refrained from oyster however, that makes me sad, I love them but I guess I had to draw the line somewhere (and also knew I couldnt stop at a little and would end up eating a dozen...)
@yavannah My husband hunts and brings home a lot of wild game. I asked my Ob when I was was pregnant with DS whether it was ok to eat. She said wild game, as long as it's cooked very thoroughly, is actually better for you than most meats because of being free from everything they add to farm raised animals. Also, we eat a lot of deer as that's mostly what he hunts, and she said it has a lot less fat than other red meats. Enjoy!!!
I've had a mug of coffee almost daily since becoming pregnant (I'm 13 weeks) My midwife has said 2 cups (500mls) of drip coffee is fine daily. There's still a part of me that is worried it may be harming the baby. But - it's so hard for me to not have coffee!! Any thoughts? Anyone else drinking coffee daily?

I cut back coffee dramatically in the first trimester (with both of my pregnancies) because of an aversion to the taste, but I will definitely bring it back when I can stomach it. I drank one 12oz coffee every day while pregnant with my daughter (except for the month or two when it seemed gross to me) and she came out a perfectly healthy 8 lb baby the rule of thumb I believe is 200 mg of caffeine, from any source.
@vbuck00 Definitely on the coffee! Agree with @Emztron500, I follow the 200mg a day. Because of terrible MS I cut back to one cup a day, anything more was making me sick but I plan on bringing back the other cup if I feel like it. I have a healthy DS drinking two cups a day last pregnancy, drink away:)
I love coffee. I used to drink at least 4 or 5 cups a day in the office. I then started getting headaches at the weekend and realised it was from caffine withdrawal. For me caffine in pregnancy is a No No, the fact that I was so reluctant to give it up showed me how much I used it as a crutch (especially to wake up in the morning) I switched to decaf and although I felt tired for a few days, I got used to it pretty quick. I don't really miss it anymore.

I am so frustrated that I can not find the article I was referring to in a PP. It was a NY times article and in it she specifically covered caffeine. The studies that "prove" that caffeine is a no no are very interesting. In the studies it did show that women who had more than 3 caffeinated beverages daily while pregnant the babies did have a higher liklehood of behavioral disorders. But women who had 1-2 actually showed less behavioral disorders in children than the ones who had no caffeine at all. I'm seriously really bummed I can find the article so you all can read it.

Being honest...laying it out there...the ONLY thing I avoid pregnant is alcohol anfd high mercury foods. And maybe situations where I think "this is dodgy..I could get food poisoning".
I love Italian sub sandwiches. I cannot give them up! I've had 3 sandwiches in 3 months so I don't think it's that big of a deal. My doctor rattled off 50 million things I'm supposed to stay away from, but I think the key here is moderation.
*Flame suit on* This weekend I had a glass of wine. Granted it was a super low alcohol wine (Stella Rosa) and I sipped on my little glass all night long, but still it was AMAZING!
