PPD Mommas

So, I'm finally admitting to myself that I think I may have PPD. I'm just not myself, and from reading things about it I have a lot of the markers they look for in diagnosing PPD. In short, I'm miserable most of the time, and I know I need to talk to someone.

I'm not sure who I need to go to for help with this. Ladies who have gone through this, who did you contact first? OB, primary care, or a therapist? I'm stupidly embarrassed about this and I don't want to call the wrong person and have them direct me to someone else. Thanks in advance.

Re: PPD Mommas

  • Start with your OB.  Mine gave me a great list of people that I could call.

  • I agree start with your OB but also if you are interested in going and talking to a counselor/therapist find out what counselong offices in your area accept your insurance! Also there should be counseling service through your county that charge based on income, and there are free therapy/crisis help lines you can call if u need to talk. Do not be embarrassed! PPD is real and you are NOT alone! Your health is important and you should never have to feel embarrassed about needing a helping hand, you need to be healthy for your baby! Sending my thoughts and prayers!
  • I agree with an OB :) unless you have your own therapist or a therapist in mind :) you can also look up therapistS that specialize in depression or women depression specifically  good luck! :Ds
  • OB or primary care if you are more comfortable. Just know that it's ok to feel what you're feeling and by reaching out you're doing what's best for you and baby!

  • I talked to my OB and she gave me a list of counselors as well as a scrip for Zoloft. I'm not one to take pills unless I absolutely have to, but it made all the difference in the world.

    Good luck, sweetie!
  • Thanks ladies. I finally was bold enough to call my OB yesterday, but they were closed for Veteran's Day. :( Gotta make sure I get it done today without chickening out again...

  • I just wrote a post about this! I think I also have it! Nothing to be ashamed about!! Admitting it is the hard part! It's our bodies chemicals and stuff that causes it! I hope you find relief!
  • I was suffering from ppd. I knew I was miserable and in a fog not my normal self and it was absolutely horrible. I contacted my ob and they gave me a name of a good therapist lady that I went to for several appts. They prescribed Zoloft too but i filled it and never took it. It just being around to take if i felt i couldn't handle it anymore seemed to be enough for me. I'm pretty anti med though. They say that it does help a lot though. I'm just hard headed! I'll be praying for you but please call to get help.
  • I've been on Zoloft since the day I gave birth , it truly does wonders for me!
