Pumping at work?

Anyone have tips for making the process a bit speedier? I only actually pump for 12 minutes but setting up, washing and storing parts seems to add an extra 15.

Re: Pumping at work?

  • I don't wash the parts each time. Put them in a zip lock bag and store in fridge and wash once a day when you're finished.

  • I second the not washing in between, just store in the fridge and wash/sterilize at home.

  • I have three sets of pumping parts, so I only need to wash after the third pumping session (I pump four times at work). I may get one more set so I don't have to wash at all until I get home (it would be worth the $15-20). I keep my milk in Medela bottles in the 4-bottle freezer storage bag with the freezer pack inside, so I don't need to keep it in the fridge at work (which isn't anywhere near where I pump).

I wear a nursing bra and tank to work every day under whatever I'm wearing, then have my hands-free pumping bra in my pumping bag. I just unclip the nursing bra and tank, lift up my actual shirt, and put the hands-free pumping bra on over the top of my nursing tank so I don't need to remove anything.

I keep all my supplies in a 31 large utility tote and store them in the room I pump in so I don't have to haul it back and forth from my desk (I'm the only one using that room).
  • I'm responding as I pump at work, lol! I store everything in a bag in a mini fridge that I have in my room. I take it home each night to wash. I do have a spare pump from my sis that I just keep at work so I don't have to haul it home every day. I wear a homemade pumping bra (cheap sports bra with tiny holes cut for the pump part to poke through) every day, with either a nursing bra or tank over it. It's not a perfect system, but I can usually be done from start to finish in less than 15 minutes.

    This exactly what I do!
  • The ziplock thing is a lifesaver for me. I found I got faster with time, too.
