Re: Anyone Else Still Running?

  • You go! I'm jealous! was 100% planning to, but then I got put on no exercise/bed rest since 22 weeks and now I'm barely allowed to walk. One of things I miss the most is running and I can't wait to get out there with my jogging stroller.

  • I am so jealous! I made I through month 7 running regularly, then went out for an easy 3 miles and couldn't walk for 2 days due to insane pelvis and groin pain. I think the baby just got to be too big and was putting too much pressure. I cried for 3 days because my running days were over, (for a while anyway).

Good for you though! Enjoy every minute!
  • Lucky! I wish I was still running - I stopped with some of the terrible nausea and didn't get into it again until 3-5 months... but by then I was deconditioned enough I never felt great at it. After 6 months I just dont feel good with my pelvic floor doing it.

All that to say, one of my first resolutions is that I'll enter the next pregnancy with a much more regular running schedule - even if I feel like TOTAL crap and nauseous.

But I'm walking a lot still - some days a good hour, and most 20 to 40 minutes.
  • Way to go!! I also stopped when I had such bad morning sickness and by the time I started to feel a bit better at 20 weeks I wasn't going to start again. I look forward to starting out slowly again once babe is here :)
  • @laurabwalker same here!!!!! Morning sickness till 24 weeks screwed me
  • Ha! You're funny.
  • My dr made me stop running and biking due to my severe ms. But said i could walk all i wanted and lift my weights as long as i stayed at same weights and didn't add to it. I ran with a couple of my other ones right up to dd lol
  • Running started giving me major Braxton hicks back in July. So I had to quit at about 23 weeks. This morning, after several days of rain and wind, it was sunny and brisk outside with a little frost on the bushes beside my running trail...my FAVORITE running weather! I so wanted to pull over the car on my way to work and put in a few miles. I'm just a couple weeks from my due date, so instead I just held on to the anticipation that I will get to be out there soon enough.
  • No, I didn't want the baby to get shaken baby syndrome so I stopped..........

Are you joking? I can get not wanting to run lol... But you definitely can't hurt your baby with the motion from running! They're in a secure and cushy bag of amniotic fluid and it's just a nice rocking motion to them. Aka its a good naptime for them!
  • When I found out I was pregnant with DS, I was so convinced I could jolt the baby loose by running, so I stopped at four weeks with my BFP. With DD, I made a valient attempt to keep running...that lasted all the way to 10 weeks. All of you who are still running are my heros! At 38+1, I can barely walk, much less exercise.
  • I don't run, but I still cycle commute to work every single day, rain or shine. I'm 34+5 and we haven't had a car for almost 2 years (so we bring home everything we need via bike... Lol so tiring and time consuming!) These last couple of days have been extremely uncomfortable and my quads are killing me! Luckily DH is brining a car home tomorrow :)

I figure that all those little giggles are getting her in the perfect birthing position, almost like a rebozo scarf!
  • No, I didn't want the baby to get shaken baby syndrome so I stopped..........

Same reason why I gave up tweaking while pregnant.
Tweaking? Or twerking? Either way, probably a good choice

And I stopped running a few weeks in, the bouncing even with 2 sports bras was too painful. Now my walking is tapering off, as some days it just gives me bad BH.
  • I used to run, but not enough to feel comfortable continuing during pregnancy. Every time I have to run to the phone, or the door, or anywhere, I feel great and I remember how much I miss moving at a rapid pace. That being said, I'm still walking 3-4 miles just about every day. Better than nothing!

  • @ssn109, thank you! Yes I meant twerking. I responded after a meltdown about DH eating all of the breakfast sausage that I woke up craving. Apparently, I shouldn't bump when hungry.

Totally me. Breastfeeding makes me ravenous by morning, and poor DH and DS get the wrath.

Lol yes. I don't even go up stairs any more of an elevator is available, and I've never ran. It's basically the worst. (I like the idea of it but hate it in practice)

  • I had to stop running at 29 weeks just bc I felt like I was going to pee my pants when I was running. But more power to you if you can still do it! Get it gurrrrl. I'm still walking, lifting weights, and doing some easy plyo exercises about 3-4 times a week though.

You're quite welcome. I got a chuckle out of it, I was pretty sure you weren't a tweaker. And really, don't those men know by now not to touch any food until you've eaten? Sheesh, guys, the pregnant lady always gets first dibs on food, even if she isn't awake before you!
  • I ran until the third trimester but had to switch to power walking bc it was causing too many BH. Bummer!

I've contemplated putting stickers on certain foods or drinks that I want only for me, but I figured that'd be rude of me.
  • Modified twerking might be wonderful for the pelvic floor ;). I kid...
  • I walked two miles this morning and pretty much peed myself and felt like the baby was going to fall out the whole way. Hello almost 39 weeks. Ugh
  • I've been running until this week. For the past couple weeks it's been less often than before (1-2 times) and shorter distances 2-3 miles... I have the desire to run more than my body allows, but when it feels good, I go for it!

It's felt great to keep active.
  • I never ran to begin with :(

  • I am 36w2d and last ran a week ago. I pulled a ligament in my pelvis and while it feels better just walking/sitting/standing, it still hurts to run. I'm hoping it's not over for me though! I ran until 39 weeks with my son and was hoping to do the same this time at least.
  • Good on you ladies for being able to still run. I'm a little envious. I stopped running pretty early on because I live where it is entirely too hot and humid to run outside. That being said, I started doing prenatal yoga, continued lifting weights, and did workout videos in my living room. DH and I also try to go for 2-3 mile walks a couple times a week, weather permitting. I've still gained a boat load of weight, so here's hoping that comes it off easy after LO arrives.
  • So jealous. I can't even walk around Walmart anymore with the pressed nerve on the left side, sciatic on the right, and feeling like I've taken a bettering ram to the crotch. I am 34 week with twins and it's my 4th nearly term pregnancy. That said, I am looking forward to huffing and puffing my big self back into some semblance of shape.
  • I ran into the 2nd trimester. 2nd trimester felt amazing until the baby bump started to get heavy on my abdominal muscles. At that point I decided I didn't want to "pound on" my abdominal muscles that were already overworked or my pelvic floor more than necessary. I switched to walking 4-8 miles about 3 days per week and dropped my walks to 2-5 miles after 32 weeks (my feet started to get really sore). With the relaxin really starting to hit at 32 weeks I think the relaxin and running would have been painful to me. 3rd trimester I've only run a little if I am playing with my dog. If we have another child, I plan on running as long as it is comfortable and listening to my body just like I did during this pregnancy.
  • Ok, so I know I said earlier that if I wasn't on bed rest that i planned to run throughout pregnancy -- but my doctors have released me this week to stroll around some stores now that I've hit 36 weeks. Yeeeeah, I am so friggin sore after walking around target and kohls. My back hurts, my hips ache. I want to die. Who am I kidding?? I wouldn't be running.

    More power to you though!!
