Grandparents Christmas Presents

So, this is the first grandchild for both sets of parents. I really want to do something fun as a Christmas present, but I'm lacking in the idea department. They all know that we're pregnant, but I still want to do something fun and cute for a Christmas present.

Any ideas?

Re: Grandparents Christmas Presents

  • Along the same lines, we're going to find out the gender a few days before Christmas, so our presents will announce the gender.
  • Loading the player...
  • What about some kind of ornament? I know you can costumize them with pictures, phrases, etc...
  • We're probably doing something with the ultrasound picture. Depending on scheduling, our anatomy scan will be just before Christmas. Actually for ourselves we plan on having the sex written down and opening it up on Christmas morning to have that moment alone if we can. We figured the timing for that was too perfect to pass up.

But that also makes it a little more difficult to really plan a gift outside of anything with the pictures. It will be the first one they get though so I know they'll be happy.
  • What about putting together a little tin/basket of things that can stay at grandma and grandpa's house for the baby? Pacifiers, burp rags, books, etc.? Or even a grandparent survival kit? Maybe they are one in the same?
  • When I found out I was knocked up, I'd just bought a pretty big load of vodka at the liquor store because they were having a sale on my favorite brand. Of all the luck, right?!

Anyway, obviously I can't drink that vodka for a while, and even though it doesn't really go bad, I figured I'd use it to make Christmas gifts for the future grandparents. As it happens, it's a locally produced brand, so I went out to the farmers' market and got some local, seasonal produce (Jupiter grapes) and made some fruit-infused vodka that's linked to the time and place (i.e., August in Philadelphia) when the future grandbaby came to be among us. I ended up with exactly enough for each grandparent to get one jar, and my hope is that everybody will hang onto their jars and then in May we can all get together and my bartender sister can mix up some nice cocktails for us to all share a toast when the day comes.

The whole thing cost $50, and that's only because I bought an expensive brand of vodka. You could probably put something together for a lot less than that, using whatever's local to your area and reasonably appropriate for the season.
  • Our parents are both divorced so we have to gift individually rather than in couples. When I was preg with our first we found some photo frames that said "when a child is born so is a grandpa/grandma" and we found out the sex just before Christmas so we printed it's a girl in pink on a copy of the sonogram and put it in each frame. Maybe you could find a frame that says grandparents or maybe just get a plain metal frame and have it engraved or just paint it on a plain frame. This year I am hoping to find out the sex before Christmas and have some of those empty clear plastic ornament balls that I plan on filling the bottom 1/3 with pink or blue glitter and then pasting a tiny copy of the sonogram in it.
  • Such great ideas!! Thanks guys! Now I just have to decide what to do. :)

We are doing this too! We are doing it with a cake.

  • I have the hardest time with the inlaws gifts. I feel like I'm always getting them very generic gifts like pjs. I'm on the treadmill right now thinking about what to get them and it dawned on me- a grandparent starter kit for when baby stays at their place

    Tote /diaper bag
    Blanket
    Bib
    Bottle
    Toy
    Rattle
    Book
    Pjs
    Diapers/ wipes

  • @yogahh I'm going with something like that for my in laws because my MIL has some irrational fear that she won't get as much time with LO as my parents will. She makes up stories in her head where she's the victim and runs with them so she can get sympathy from everyone. Hopefully this will be a peace offering.

  • @yogahh that's a great idea.

My sister got one of these for me and I absolutely loved it so I searched to see if they make them for grandparents as well, and they do! So we are giving each grandparent one of these so they can write their own letters to baby.

The first Christmas I got the grandparents nice custom polo type shirts with the name they chose to be called when baby comes.

  • Only thing about baby related grandparents gift is that I'm personally afraid of only getting baby related presents... I want my own presents! Not baby stuff! Wondering if g-parents will feel the same or if this is exciting enough and their far enough removed from the baby having that this won't be an issue. I know this sounds selfish, but... Okay I don't really have a but there, I just like getting presents.
