Waiting 12 days would be murder. We found out weeks ago from the harmony test, you know because I'm "advanced maternal age" . They called me with the results at work, so I was alone. Glad I was because I was disappointed. Suprised me. I would have hated to be in a group because I imagine the look on my face was not happy. What flabbergast me is a baker or family member finding our before me. I'm carrying the dang thing I should know first. Lol. I even hated the nurse knowing before me. Sad I know. I do think it should be a private moment between you two as was the conception. So while what your SO said reads bad it may not have been intended that way. If you really want a party you should find out together, react, the party on!
We did the panoramic testing at 10 weeks...takes my blood, which has baby's blood in it...and tests for chromosomal issues and gender. Some insurances cover some dont. We did this cake to reveal gender to my family. Strawberry cake with chocolate icing.
BTW - not a fan of what your SO said....I would have had a few choice words for him....that being said I would want my reaction to be in private.
Don't worry @youngmomma514! I think these feelings are more normal than you think. Honestly, MH and I have our hearts set on one gender specifically and know we will probably be initially disappointed if we find out we're having the opposite. Not to say that we wouldn't love both, but as PPs have said we've already imagined ourselves with one over the other.
That being said, if your heart's still set on throwing a party then do it girl! The only things you regret are the things you don't do. I'm treating this pregnancy (our first!) like it's my one & only because you never know.
What you can do instead though to appease both you and your SO is find out initially on your own and then do a "guessing game" type of reveal party for your family & friends! Who cares if you already know? That would give your SO time (if it's a girl) to adjust to the news and it's just as fun to watch the people you love try to guess! There's literally so many games on Pinterest for guessing!
