Drop in Progesterone Levels

So last week (wednesday, so 8 days ago..), my levels were:
HCG- 601
Prog- 21.5

Today my levels were:
HCG- 15,973
Prog- 14.5

Now I'm worried bc I had a big drop in my progesterone levels over 8 days. Granted, the first was at 9am and second 3:30. So first was on an empty stomach and second was after a meal, which apparently food can drop progesterone levels. But I'm freaking myself out that something is wrong. Anyone else dealing with this? I'm calling my OB in the morning to see if he'll put me on progesterone supplements. Help!

Re: Drop in Progesterone Levels

  • If your doctor was concerned wouldn't they have said something when they told you your levels??

  • I've been in between two doctors. So I'm not even sure they compared last week to this weeks. Just looked at the number itself
  • Well then I would make sure they know of both sets of numbers and see what they say. Doctors are smart people.
  • I'm in a similar situation. At 4 weeks, my progesterone was 21.6. Had labs done on Monday (7w6d), and it dropped to 11.
My doctor called today and said she would like number to be above 15. I'm starting oral Progesterone tonight....
  • My progesterone started out at 12 and dropped to 8. I started spotting and they rechecked and it had dropped to 5.5. I started progesterone suppositories two times a day and the spotting stopped within a half day and later that week my progesterone was back up to almost 18.5
  • I just got my results back. Turns out last week it was actually 26.5 and not 21.5. I did have it tested again yesterday and it went back up a little to 26.9. But I still asked for Prometrium and my OB agreed to it. But she did say she didn't think it was necessary bc Progesterone has peaks and valleys and 16.9 is within normal range. I just hopw it works QUICK

I agree with your doctor. Obviously, it is your prerogative if you want to be on unnecessary meds (according to your OB.) is there a reason you don't trust your OB?
  • I did just what you did too actually. My progesterone was good according to my doctor but having just had a loss I was nervous and asked to be on oral progesterone for my own peace of mind.
  • It's not about not trusting my OB. I had a loss due to low progesterone. And my old OB put me on Prometrium right away when I got pregnant with my youngest son. He moved offices and I couldn't follow him. But he always said to watch my levels closely bc of my history and he would put me on progesterone with every pregnancy from there on out. So I considered that I do probably need it and don't wanna take a chance on losing this baby because I have a past history of low progesterone

Well, that changes things quite a bit.
