I'm taking mine right now and we don't get a choice here on flavour but the stuff they gave me wasn't too bad. But i have this asshole sitting next to me eating bakery food...im hungry and im pissed off and he is not making this easy!
I had the choice of scheduling it a couple of days before thanksgiving or dec 1. That was no brainier! I failed my 1 hr one and then barely passed the 3 hr one last pregnancy so I'm expecting that there's a 50/50 chance I'll fail this time. So I decided not to ruin thanksgiving especially bc I'm hosting and cooking. I want to be able to eat my pies and my corn bread leak dressing, if I'm going to be cooking all week!
I took my glucose test last week. I was given the red fruit punch and it was pretty delicious. I chugged it down. With my other three pregnancies I drank the Orange drink and that one was disgusting. The lady said there was way too many women who threw the Orange one up so that's why she gives the fruit punch instead. My baby boy is already crazy active so the drink did not make the difference. I was just bored sitting there for an hour.
Had mine this afternoon. No choice, given the orange drink cold with 5 minutes to drink it. Similar experience as with DD: tasted fine, felt like I was going to throw up for a brief moment, then felt like my body was going a million miles a minute but had to remain calm.. It was a public place after all. Had a routine appointment in the middle of it while also filling out paperwork for screening and L&D data entry. Baby wasn't as active as I thought it would be but appointment went super fast and he/she is kicking up a storm now while laying in bed!

Totally just found out I completely failed my 1 hour:(. Have to do the 3 hour next week. So not looking forward to it. They had enough trouble getting blood for one draw, I can't imagine 3! I know with DD my vein collapse during the 3 hour so painful. I have super tiny veins and low blood pressure so I hate getting blood drawn because I usually end up with several pokes
Had mine yesterday morning. Had to fast beforehand so I was starving. I asked my DH to take the morning off because I wasn't sure how I'd feel. I wasn't given a choice on flavor and had the chilled Sprite flavor. It wasn't great but it was tolerable. Got it down in about 2 minutes with DH cheering me on. I had my regular checkup during the hour waiting period so the time went by fairly quickly. LO didn't respond much at all to the drink that I could feel but was moving a bit while trying to hear the heartbeat.
I hate that I have to wait another few days to get my results. They should rush through pregnant lady lab work. Like anxiety helps anything. I have my first baby shower this weekend in Louisiana and am looking forward to some yummy home cooking. FX that I'm alright and can continue eating what I want in moderation.

Hope you weren't in Sugar Land cause the asshole was maybe my DH. He scarfed down a muffin during my test because he didn't have time to eat before we left the house. I gave him permission but told him to eat fast.

I did my test yesterday and got orange, it wasn't so bad. I thought it was going to be terrible. I found out today that I have to do the 3 hour test tomorrow, so i'm very nervous. Wish me luck everything goes ok!
1hr test was today. I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and fasted 8hrs prior. Didn't have a choice on flavor but thankfully it was cold. Tasted like a stale orange koolaid. Twiddled my thumbs while I felt baby girl go nuts from the sugar. Nurse took my blood labs as well as administered the tdap vaccine. I got a call about 4 hours later that I failed quite royally clocking in at 204. No history of diabetes on either side. I lost 15lbs in first trimester and finally gained it all back with 4 extra by the end of second trimester. They scheduled the 3 hour for Friday to get a better idea of what my sugar is actually doing.
I'm trying not to be upset... I'm just worried how this might effect the health of my baby and my birth plan.
In the middle of my 3 hr now! Halfway done. Not sure if the glucose actually tastes worse this time, or if its just my totally negative attitude at having to redo the test
Visiting from the March 2016 board - had a question that none of the ladies who responded could remember the answer to, and since most of us haven't had our glucose test yet they suggested I ask you guys. My question is - for the 1 hour test, do they draw blood before you drink the glucola and then again after an hour, or just after? There's an article on my Bump homepage about the glucose tests and it specifically says for the 3 hour test they draw before and then once an hour for three hours, but for the 1 hour test they didn't say if they draw both before and after. What have you ladies experienced? (Dealing with a bit of needle phobia and trying to prepare myself) Thanks!
Just had mine this morning. Chugged the clear fruit punch in about 2 1/2 sips, didn't think about it, just bottoms up! Got a head ache pretty quickly and still have it, of course now my little girl is going crazy. I had to go to a place that draws blood, not the Dr office, so I had to sit there for an hour. But just brought a book to waste time. Guess I'll hear results next week.
I have my one hour tomorrow along with monthly check up and i'm freaking out about failing because I have been craving nothing but sugar this whole pregnancy and i'm usually not even a big sweets person
Just had mine this morning - orange drink (no choice) and it was warm..eww! Baby went crazy kicking afterwards which was kind of fun
Question...did anyone else have a big headache afterwards? My test was as follows:
Minimum 10 hour fast (overnight)
Blood drawn (approx 9am)
Drink the orange stuff (approx 9am, right after the first blood draw)
Blood drawn 1 hour after the orange stuff (approx 10am)
Blood drawn at 2 hours after the orange stuff (approx 11am)
Headache arrived about 12:30pm. I'm also really sleepy. Pretty typical?
*Edited to add fasting info and fix spelling.
Yes, did mine yesterday only I didn't fast, and only had to wait an hour- but had the worst headache yesterday. Instead of getting stuff done around the house, really just laid around the rest of the day.
The 3hr test is for the birds, especially if you run out of good veins for them to draw from. Hopefully I have good results though. Good luck to you ladies!
My Midwife had me eat a big meal high in carbs (I chose Spaghetti, Bread and a Strawberry Kiwi Snapple) an hour before she poked my finger and checked it. Simple & delicious.
I have my glucose test on December 7th and I just had a question pop into my head. I have my next appointment Monday so I'll ask my Dr. too. But, I was prescribed metformin for my PCOS when we were trying to get pregnant and my doctor kept me on it through the pregnancy. Since it is also a medication for diabetes do you think it will affect the results at all? Just curious if anyone else had experience with this!
@SU1989 I'm on Metformin this time round and I think it helped me. Last pregnancy I failed both the 1hr and the 3hr and wasn't taking it anywhere near as frequently as I was supposed to. This time round I passed the 1hr with good numbers and don't need to do the 3hr. I fully expected to be told I had it again based on having it with the last baby.
@Ktjennks I was told to do the same, but to stick to protein. I ate two scrambled eggs before I left for my appointment and nothing else and I passed! You could try that. Good luck.
@Aussiechicka interesting! That's what I was thinking might happen. That it would help the results because it's controlling that more. Thank you for the response! Glad you passed this time!

She said that stress can play a factor so try to be relaxed during these tests... Easier said than done I know
