Posting pictures in your underwear is completely different than the aforementioned. I for one, wouldn't share personal pictures like that on any public forum. A swimsuit in public is different. But I STILL wouldn't post a picture just myself in a swimsuit online. I'm not prude, you just never know who is looking. And once it's out there, it's out there for anyone. Not just people on this board. But hey, if you're ok with your half naked pictures on the internet, go for it.
Same with posting pee sticks. Just why? The first trimester board has a thread specifically for that if people really want to share. I think the issue there is more so that there really is no reason to post the picture in the first place. Either there's a line, or there isn't. A bunch of internet strangers aren't going to see a line any better than you, and if there is no line, you're not pregnant. Simple. And if you're just posting it to prove that you are in fact pregnant? We've all seen an HPT before. They all look the same. You're pregnant, we believe you.
And to the last comment about "flaming someone for their miscarriage" - did you even read that entire thread? It was a thread posted for to ease people's minds, and one person came in trying to discourage any hope there may have been. She wasn't flamed for her miscarriage by any means. In fact, everyone after that comment was very empathetic about her loss. It was the fact that her comment completely inappropriate for the entire thread.
In general, The Bump is more of an educational and scientific online forum as opposed to other communities. I think that also plays a big part.
One thing to add - There are plenty of other forums that are totally open to pee sticks and gender theories. As far as pee sticks go, its in the guidelines pinned to every.single.board that pee sticks aren't okay. Maybe I'm just the weird one who reads those things. As far as old wives tales, this particular site focuses more on the science behind conception and pregnancy than the woo. Posts about gender theories get side-eyed for that reason.
No one is saying its a science tool, just that things with no basis in science are outed for being exactly what they are here.
This horse had been pretty well beaten to death.
ETA: @Sgoldberg247 just said it above. TB isn't a scientific "tool" per se, but yet one of the myriad of resources available online for information related to pregnancy, which happens to have a community of members generally more interested in the science involved rather than inaccurate nonsense. So, if "nonsense" is purported, it should be corrected with science. The more you know.
Listen, if you're going to come on here preaching about shaming then at least take the time to read the whole thread.
1. There were NINETEEN non-snarky, supportive comments on this thread before the first snarky comment was posted. And yes, that snarky comment was from me.
2. Using the word "torment" to describe this thread and the opinions expressed in it is completely ridiculous. It annoys me when words like this are used inappropriately. Torment is not what happened here. Is anyone here causing OP severe mental suffering? That is the definition of torment (that or severe physical suffering). I really don't think so. Don't abuse words that have very serious implications.
3. The most "insulting" comment I could find was someone saying "put some pants on". Most were expressing not being interested in seeing a photo of this person in their underwear. Check out this terrible shaming comment: "I don't mean to be disrespectful OP, but it's a little showy for my taste." HOW DARE SHE!?!? Express an opinion in such a rude and shaming manner. tsk tsk
4. The WKs who came on here and started yelling "shaming" at everyone annoy me way more than the actual photo did. Go back, read the comments and you'll actually see that not one was 'shaming' her or attacking her.
And I will reiterate my previous point - if you're going to come on an internet forum and one of the very first thing you post (I couldn't see any previous comments, but I could be wrong) is a headless photo of yourself lounging in your undies - I'm going to make a joke. I'd make the very same joke if my best friend sent me a photo of her in her undies showing off a bump. (except my friends don't do that.)
Don't try to make this into a women shaming, sexualization of women's bodies post. It's not.

Look, continuing this argument will get all of us exactly nowhere. No one is asserting themselves as "the boss". Stances on this issue have been clearly stated. It's a public forum, differences of opinion will happen, and that's just how it is.
