Come on people, if you wouldn't walk around in it in public, you shouldn't be posting it on a public Internet forum. I'm guessing we would all be side eye OP if we saw Her grocery shopping in her underwear, yes? So what is the difference in her posting underwear pics online on a PUBLIC forum? Am I offended by the pic? no... But it's just unnecessary and doesn't make a whole lot of sense
  • I agree! I found it odd how people are saying 'I would wear my undies around in public why show it on a forum?'. Well we also don't walk around talking about our cm, how sore our boobs are or other related pregnancy symptoms. We are on a pregnancy board! Seriously! i even saw how someone was flamed for mentioned her miscarriage and how that rain on someone's parade. I have been on the knot and various bump boards over the years and have never seen one as rude and snarky as this one.
  • I have a Biology degree so I don't come to the bump for science! That is what University, Midwives and Google is for. I come for chat, friendship and fun. To view the bump as a scientific tool is pushing it slightly!
  • Just don't think a few should get to dictate what others are "allowed" to discuss!

Disagree. There is plenty of physiology-based, medically-sound information available on TB. There is also plenty of foo foo nonsense. However, the difference between the two is quite clear.
  • Yes, and who gets to choose what nonsense is ok? Just let people discuss what they want and if you don't want to be part of it then don't!

As do I (through masters, going for PhD). I know from a science perspective that it doesn't matter where your placenta is, or whether a ring spins/sways, or whether your pee makes baking soda fizz, or cabbage water change colors or your age at conception or any of the other gender theories out there. Is it fun to do them? Sure, with your family, but not with a board of people who you've known for all of a month (some more if they've moved up from TTGP).

No one is saying its a science tool, just that things with no basis in science are outed for being exactly what they are here.

Please use the quote function so it's clear to whom you are responding.

This horse had been pretty well beaten to death.

ETA: @Sgoldberg247 just said it above. TB isn't a scientific "tool" per se, but yet one of the myriad of resources available online for information related to pregnancy, which happens to have a community of members generally more interested in the science involved rather than inaccurate nonsense. So, if "nonsense" is purported, it should be corrected with science. The more you know.

Good for you on your biology degree. I never said TB was used specifically as a scientific tool. I don't think anyone ever did. All we said was that we value science based facts vs phony crap. And if you stick around, you'll see that we many of us get along great, have fun and have formed friendships outside of TB as well.
  • And as usual, I side with @mrsschmity

  • People can have fun anyway they like! If people want to discuss old wives tales for fun they can! Why do get to tell everyone else what to do? Who made you boss?
  • Well....if the hat fits!

Again, the quote function would be appreciated.

Look, continuing this argument will get all of us exactly nowhere. No one is asserting themselves as "the boss". Stances on this issue have been clearly stated. It's a public forum, differences of opinion will happen, and that's just how it is.

    I'm out.

Nonsense is pretty well defined by what is scientifically sound. It's not a personal decision, its scientific fact. It's an open forum, people are going to speak their minds. Welcome to the internet.

Listen, if you're going to come on here preaching about shaming then at least take the time to read the whole thread.

    1. There were NINETEEN non-snarky, supportive comments on this thread before the first snarky comment was posted. And yes, that snarky comment was from me.

    2. Using the word "torment" to describe this thread and the opinions expressed in it is completely ridiculous. It annoys me when words like this are used inappropriately. Torment is not what happened here. Is anyone here causing OP severe mental suffering? That is the definition of torment (that or severe physical suffering).  I really don't think so. Don't abuse words that have very serious implications.

    3. The most "insulting" comment I could find was someone saying "put some pants on". Most were expressing not being interested in seeing a photo of this person in their underwear. Check out this terrible shaming comment: "I don't mean to be disrespectful OP, but it's a little showy for my taste." HOW DARE SHE!?!? Express an opinion in such a rude and shaming manner. tsk tsk

    4. The WKs who came on here and started yelling "shaming" at everyone annoy me way more than the actual photo did. Go back, read the comments and you'll actually see that not one was 'shaming' her or attacking her.

And I will reiterate my previous point - if you're going to come on an internet forum and the very first thing you post (I couldn't see any previous comments, but I could be wrong) is a headless photo of yourself lounging in your undies - I'm going to make a joke. I'd make the very same joke if my best friend sent me a photo of her in her undies showing off a bump. (except my friends don't do that.)

Don't try to make this into a women shaming, sexualization of women's bodies post. It's not.

I'm really not sure who you are referring to? I hope it's not me as you have obviously confused me with another member. I haven't refered to "torment" or shaming. . Different person!
  • @Atlast111 - wasn't directed at one person. Just an overall comment.

Not her first post. She also had a post about if it was okay to take codeine for a headache. Mobile makes it impossible to find previous post history. I always have to request the desktop version to see older posts.
