Baby will only sleep on me

My LO is 10 weeks old and she only sleeps when I hold her. When I put her down (in her crib, pack and play, rock and play), she immediately cries or will wake up within 15 minutes. We've tried various swaddle blankets and it just gets her frustrated. At night, she sleeps on my chest. The good thing is she only wakes up once to feed around 4am. This is getting physically and mentally exhausting. To top it off, she cries whenever my husband holds her so I don't get a break which is another problem. I know he feels bad. Any one else going through this?

Re: Baby will only sleep on me

  • Have you tried sleeping with a blanket that you will later use on her so she keeps your smell with her? Also put a heating pad down on her bed to warm it up before putting her in it to mimic your body heat

  • I warm the pack n play for ten minutes, remove the heating pad, and put him in the exact spot where it was! He loves it now. I was having your issue, also!
  • She may be in REM sleep (light sleep) when u put her down. Make sure to rock her to sleep for at least 15 minutes so she enters deep sleep and then put her down.
  • If she's in the wrong sleep mode (I've been told babies sleep cycles go in 20 minute segments) it could be the cause. If not, has she just finished or started a growth spurt? My boy gets like that at the start of one, refuses flat out to sleep anywhere except on me.
  • Is this new? When my baby went through a wonder week/growth spurt I could not put him down when he napped or he'd wake up crying. Now if I swaddle him tight enough and wait twenty minutes I can put him in the pack n play or on the bed next to me to nap.
  • I'm going through the same exact thing. He'll only wake two when he sleeps on me but won't even stay asleep in the crib. Help
  • My daughter falls asleep on me at bedtime and sometimes when I put her down she'll wake up so I pick her up and just keep attempting to put her down. Sometimes takes a few goes and about half hour but I know if I keep trying she will stay asleep in Moses basket. I don't want her to get used to sleeping on me but she does nap on me in the day but night is a different matter. I put a blanket across her back so that when I put her down she lays on the blanket and still has that warmth and then I put a blanket over her. She'd be no good being swaddled she kicks too much
  • I too went through this for naps. At night my son had no probably going down but for naps he wanted to be held. Just recently I have been able to get him to nap in the pack and play at least during one of his naps. We took small fleece blankets and I slept with them for a few days and placed it in a U shake around and under his head so he felt as if he was sleeping on me. I know some people might frown on anything in the crib but I constantly check on him.

Also I know slings work for some people during this time.
