Favorite Guilty Pleasure Name

Stole this from the Baby Names board, what is your favorite guilty pleasure name? Will you or have you considered using it?

I like Jereth, but that's also the Goblin King's name from Labyrinth so it's not very likely I'll be using it.

  • I really like Damien, but DH shot it down because when he hears it he thinks of the kid from The Omen
  • I think the name chastity is beautiful, if only the definition was different.

Happily married since 5/24/2015  Momma of a baby Viking since 4/16, expecting #2 in 5/18
  • I really like Greek mythological names like Ariadne and Persephone, but there is absolutely no way I'd give that name to my child. I named the dog Athena, though :)
  • I love the name Loralai, and as much as I love Gilmore Girls I dont want to name my child after a tv show.
  • I love that name tooooo @Pinguinageddon !! Literally thought I was the only person ever haha. Obviously we can't name our kids that, but it's good to know I have a kindred spirit. :)
  • My guilty pleasure name is Stella, which is not really a crazy name but my husband forbids me to ever use it because it immediately reminds him of beer. :) Good thing we are having a baby boy, then.
  • I like the name Adonis and Cameron for boys. Too bad Cameron means crooked nose. It was really one of my top names.

When I hear Stella, I think of How I Met Your Mother. And at least the beer is served in a classy chalice!
  • I liked the name Camden for a boy. I saw it get ripped to shreds on the Baby Name board. I live on the West Coast so I never knew of the city in NJ. I thought it was cute and loved Cam as a nickname.
  • @AmadorRose - I had a student named Athena, whom I liked, so I was into that name too.

@cjbwifey2010 - I also had a student named Adonis, whom I liked, but it doesn't sound good with our last name.

  • Heloise, Hildegard, Clothilde and Eleanor, because I have a degree in Medieval History and I love me some historical badasses.  The only one I'd even consider considering would be Eleanor, but there are just too many little Ellas, Noras, and Eleanors out there for me to actually pull the trigger.  (But seriously, baby Clo?  Little Hilde? So cute!)

I also think Charlie for a little girl, as a nickname for Charlotte is adorable. I've thought so for years, well before the current trend. I don't care if it is historically a man's name. Again though, I refuse to pick something so popular. I do NOT want my child to be in the same situation I'm in, where anyone who hears my name, whether they've seen me or not, can pin down my age within five years.  Ugh.
  • I've wanted a daughter named Adaline since I was little and had a doll with that name. Unfortunately, DH isn't very fond of it, and it's a super popular name around here. There was eleven (!) Aidens in my son's graduating elementary class, that was about 10% of the kids. I wouldn't want a child to deal with that.

DH had his heart set on Seven for a girl, but I vetoed it.

  • Olive and Poppy for girls, Declan and Remy for boys.

Also love boy names for girls - Clarke, Elliott, Spencer, Kori
  • I'm crushing hard on the name Grayson. Our last name is super Irish and I think they sound great together. DH vetoed it.
  • Seraphina and Sabrina as girl names. Rupert and Dashiell (nn Dash) as boy names. DH thought I was joking when I suggested them.
  • I really like the name Gratuity for a girl. It was the name of a character in one of DDs movies, I really liked that her nickname was Tip. It's not going to happen though.

I really like the name James for a boy. This is my boss's name and we have a great relationship...I just don't need to the rumors flying around the office.

That might be the name we might be settling on, only spelled Greyson.

I think Adonis and Persephone are awesome names. I just don't feel comfortable naming a child after a god or goddess.

I really like that name for a girl! So I would get ripped on that board, but guess what I don't care what random people think of my child's name!
  • I like some of these as well! Especially Jareth and Stella! I think mine would be Mercedes. I think it is such a pretty name but it is unfortunately ruined by a car company!

I tried to convince DH to use Mercedes as a mn because it was his beloved grandmother's name, but he was not having it! I'm not a fan of the car association, but I do like family names as mn.

For boys I love Jack, Finn, Oliver, or Sam (not Samuel, just Sam).

For girls, it would be Fiona (Fee) or Aurelia. DH doesn't like either of those.

This baby is a girl and she's going to be Grace Linda. Grace is a name I really wanted for meaningful reasons, and Linda is after her grandmother (DH's mom).

Jareth, that's how it's spelled. For the longest time I thought it was Jereth because that's how Hoggle pronounces it. BTW Labyrinth is my all time favorite movie.

I love Oliver too! But DH said no way cuz his brother has a dog named Ollie that he sometimes calls Oliver :(

I love the names Guilford and Bennett for a boy, but we settled on something a little more normal-ish if it's a boy.

For a girl, I've always liked Calliope but I don't like the idea of Callie as a nickname.
  • My husband and I really love Spanish names. We both are bilingual, and DD's name has a Spanish flare (Elena), but the ones we really love probably wouldn't fly for two true American gringos. We love Javier (Javi is such a cute nn), Emilio (Lio or Lilo nn), Julieta (Juli nn - j pronounced as h), Luna, Hector, etc. But I just don't think we can do it.

That's what makes it a cool name! I love the Labyrinth and David Bowie!
  • @Poppy16 Fiona is my FAVORITE girl name but I was also vetoed by DH...poo poo to him. And we're using Grace as a MN for this LO, AND DHs mom is a Linda. So many name similarities! :)

  • @imrachellea that's crazy there's so many similarities! You have a Lucy too, right?

  • I love Juliette dh said hell no. We havent discussed boy names....

  • Love the names Evan and Benjamin, but they don't sound good with our last name.  I REALLY love Colin, but DH hates it.  :(  It also sounds...so so with our last name.  And now I'm developing a thing for Harrison as a middle name.  I did like the name Carson, but Ben Carson ruined it for me.  Sorry, Ben Carson-lovers out there.

For girls...I don't have a whole lot of...guilty pleasure names.  I find myself leaning towards...nick-namey?  names?  Like Annie and Julie.

The *only* name, girl or boy, that DH has brought up has been...Kaley?  Kayleigh?  Kayley?  However you want to spell that.  I don't love it.

My 3 year old LOVES that movie. She watches it a few times a week. I explained the pun to my older kids and they though it was pretty funny. :P

  • I am obsessed with Penelope (Penny), but my DH couldn't be fully sold. Seraphina is also up there. For boys, I love Anderson and Davis but neither of them work for us.
  • I liked the name Camden for a boy. I saw it get ripped to shreds on the Baby Name board. I live on the West Coast so I never knew of the city in NJ. I thought it was cute and loved Cam as a nickname.

I've literally never heard this and I feel like I'm kind of harsh on names. Also west coaster. I think Camden is pretty popular but not as bad as Aiden or mason for example and absolutely think you should go for it. Two of the moms on my first BMB group have camdens and nobody ever questioned them.

  • I have this boy's name picked out even though DH doesn't agree yet. I have a list on my phone and have some names I love that I would NEVER use, but have actually suggested them to see what DH thinks. (He seriously likes nothing, which is why I know my name will eventually stick). Names are Chance, Axel, Pierce (a more serious contender), and Xavier. I actually love Xavier and so does DH but his name is Charles so we just couldn't do that!!!

  • Oh and for girl names they're all guilty pleasures since I'm gonna have all boys (insert sobbing emoji because I want a daughter). But if I ever do have a girl she'll be Hazel.

  • I love love love Cash for a boy. A lot of people like it minus DH. He hates it but we both do love Johnny Cash. Cash has been my go to name but people don't like how it sounds with DS's name Chase.

I also love Dylan for a girl.
  • @rebelone.......it's a manly name....the meme says so!

@cmjenkies, my son's name is Declan. I love it, but I'm big into Irish names. All of our kids have an Irish name.

I really like Graham for a boy, but my husband vetoed it. He said it sounds pretentious. I also like Reid, but we have a one syllable last name so it doesn't flow well.

@minorfall27 I've gotta ask... Is your DH a Firefly fan?
