Re: Baby can't poop again

  • Call your pediatrician since this isn't the first time.

  • Did you call your pediatrician last week when she wasn't pooping? I remember your thread from last week and it sounded like you were planning on calling.
Is she not pooping at all for this last week or is she just crying when she needs to poop and then pooping?
I think crying and then pooping isn't a big deal but if she hasn't pooped in a week you really should call your pediatrician.
If you think it's the formula that's something to discuss with your baby's doc and many times they have samples of different formula you can try to see if that helps.
But really, bottom line is if baby is really struggling you need to call your doc because we can't tell through the internet if your baby is ok or having a problem and its important to keep your doc in the loop if you even suspect baby has a real problem.
  • She cries like the whole day and she usually poops at midnight.. And I did call last week and they said it's not a problem until she dosent poop for 3 days.. But I hate seeing her struggling throughout the day because she can't poop
  • @riosv my LO is the same way. I had to change him to formula due to breastfeeding problems and his stools changed dramatically. He only poops once a day or every two days and its very thick and stinky. The Pediatrician good me not to worry unless it was more than 3-4 or it was rock hard. She said he still has to learn how to tighten his abdominal muscles and relax his rectum which is something he didn't really have to work hard at with breast milk poops. I hope it gets better soon because I feel awful for him. He seems so uncomfortable most of the time
  • I think you need to start calling your pediatrician for problems instead of consulting us all the time. I've noticed several threads from you about issues with your little one. A doctor is going to give you better help and advice then us hands down and they need to be notified of struggles like this with your little ones so that she can get the help she needs
  • It's okay to be worried, but if your doctor says 3 days is okay then that's the best advice. It sounds like LO is pooping everyday though, and regularly at midnight? If so that's pretty regular and I wouldn't be concerned. Try gas drops if you want and see if that helps ease baby's discomfort during the day.
  • My little girl has pooing problems too and doc said to do rectal stimulation. Take a q-tip with some Vaseline and put just the tip in there a wiggle it. It helped my baby.
  • Lurking from N15 but had DS in October, definitely call Doctor first but I second the rectal stimulation! Actually had to do it this morning and it worked, same thing was happening he was screaming and screaming only going once a day if that! We tried gas drops and didn't work, doctor recommended a baby probiotic as well. A thermometer worked much easier with Vaseline than the Q-tip as it was a smooth surface
  • My baby is formula fed as well and the doctor said they can go up to 5 days without pooping, if they go that long give them 4 oz of prune juice.
  • I third the rectal stimulation. When we were in the hospital, baby had gone two days with out pooping and as we were approaching discharge day with no poops, just a few "smears" (which showed that she was working on it) the nurse decided to stimulate her and bam...ALL came out! You should talk to your ped though. I can't imagine it is good to do this on a regular basis.
  • There are hundreds of peer reviewed case studies on chiropractic care and relief of constipation. I'm a chiropractor and I see kids and adults everyday for this very complaint. Find someone with extra training in pediatric adjusting via icpa4kids.com. I wish you the best and hope you will consider a non-invasive, drug free, and very gentle approach. Be well!
  • I agree.. Chiropractic! My son wouldn't poop and I took him to the chiropractor and he pooped 3 times in 1.5 hours! He hasn't had any more trouble since.
  • One thing that I used to do with my first two was out about a half teaspoon of dark karo in two bottles a day and that kept them fairly regular.but that being said, please contact your dr because my friend has two children with hirschbrungs...and this sounds rather similar. Not saying it is but always better to be safe than sorry.
  • Rectal stimulation is what I did when my lo didn't poo for over 48 hours. Was an hour away from calling the doctor and tried thermometer with a little Vaseline. I figured the least I could do is make sure she didn't have a temperature. Within 10 seconds of the thermometer being in her bum she pushed it out a long with a good chunk of poo. Sure enough, there was another 36 hours of her not pooing, this time I called the doctor and all they said was as long as she was eating and wasn't inconsolable she was fine and we weren't supposed to do anything. We had changed her formula to gentle ease and read online that for some it causes constipation. We switched back to newborn formula and she'll go a little over a day without pooing but she seems a lot more calm than she did those few days of not pooing. Good luck! And if all else fails, call the doctor. We were trying to get the green light to give her prune juice but they wouldn't say to do it so we didn't.
